    I rode a Street Triple, which essentially has the last generation of this engine. Holy FUCK, it was fast. You open the throttle , and it just careens you forward at a speed so fast that you go from being at the helm, to just being a passenger hanging on to this rampant machine, hoping not to die. You pin open the throttle at 5,000 RPM, and you start accelerating, and the revs just keep rising. And they keep rising and rising... 6000, 7000, 8000... And you keep flying forward. You're already doubling the speed limit. 9000, 10000... You're still accelerating. How could you still be accelerating? Everything around you at this point has just become a blur. 11000, 12000, 13000... And finally, you manage to find the redline, which lies somewhere in the upper stratosphere. You come back into control of the bike, you're no longer loudly exclaiming the name of your favorite deity, and you realize that you're doing one million miles per hour, and there's a red light and a bunch of cars five feet in front of you. You quickly squeeze the brakes, and just barely come to a stop without flying off of your machine. That's what these bikes are like. All supersport bikes. They're for the track. Don't underestimate motorcycles.

      master777999 Actually the Street Triple has a different engine than the Daytona. Same engine block yes but different cams, crank, transmission, and ecu tune. So the power spikes and how it runs are different you get a bit more down low than the Daytona does.. A Street Triple being pretty quick for what it is would not be designated for a track bike.
      If you want to see a guy who actually does race amateur superbike and has his own youtube channel. Go check out Marcel Irnie he races 2-3 BMW s1000 RR's.

      @nomadben 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Zalonka Ahh I see, that's just what the sales guy told me. I assumed that there were some small differences like that. Well I was really just trying to make the point that bikes of this caliber are way beyond what can be used on the street, rather than that they're literally track bikes, although many are. But thanks for the info and suggestion.

    I love my 675, the low end TQ surprises my liter bike owner friends, it may fall in it's face around 165mph but it'll run away from any 600 long before that speed is in sight.
    It's nimble and feels like a 250 and with a few bolt ons it'll blow your mind, the sound of the 3 cylinder is unreal and it's just a great bike.

    I owned one for about a year. Coming from commuter and touring cycles, and many different models. It was the first full-on sport bike I ever owned. It was wild. Had no idea the upper limits of motorcycle power and control. It was a scalpel on the road, and could jet me like a squirt of water anywhere I pointed the handlebars. Not as painful as he makes out (I'm 50 and a bit overweight) but it sure let you know you are the pilot and you are on a machine. Loved it! Had to go because it was impractical.

    I am on my second Daytona 675. My 2007 (same model at the one reviewed) was very uncomfortable. The 2013 is not a lot more comfortable, but that isn't what matters. The raw scream that comes from the inline three and how it makes you feel is all that counts.

  • @MatthewBogert
    @MatthewBogert 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Just adding that in the video, the Daytona was compared to a Speed Triple. The Daytona is a 675 triple where a Speed Triple is a 955 or 1050 depending on year. The Street Triple is the 675 naked variant of the Daytona. Otherwise it was a great video! I am inclined to agree a middleweight supersport isn't a good choice for a starter bike. It can be done but maturity plays a large factor in the success rate. Better off just starting on a single cylinder like a Buell Blast!

    Very nice 675 review. I'd say this one fits in with CBR600RR and GSXR600 pretty well also. I've owned a few bikes over the years. Loved the Ninja 250R you mentioned for its handling, and the Honda Superhawk VTR1000 for it's power, but I ended up with a 2009 CBR600RR/ABS for a good balance between both, and all is good in the world after 30 years of riding.

    Ya know, funny thing. When I was 11, I knew a guy who bought a high powered Kawasaki to learn on. He over revved, dumped the clutch, and popped a wheelie, which made him lose control and get his leg stuck between the bottom of a fence, and the bike. That was one of his first times on it. Eventually, he learned to ride it, got his motorcycle endorsement, and celebrated by doing wheelies up and down the street. Unfortunately for him, he wasn't paying attention to the side road, and got hit by a garbage truck. He's been in a wheelchair since. As I'm typing this, I'm laughing my ass off at that memory, which probably makes me a bad person. But you know what, fuck it, the shits hilarious.

    I am one of THOSE guys.
    I never owned a bike, never want to own a bike, don't give a shit about bikes, don't know anything about bikes, make fun of their fancypants leather gear and daydream of door checking them while they try to pass me in heavy traffic.
    Every statistic that was named in this video is meaningless to me, because I know nothing about bikes whatsoever and I have really nothing to compare this against.
    Yet still, I watch every single RCR bike video and enjoy it, don't know why, don't really care, because I leave with my smile as ignorant as I was when the video started, and as we all know, ignorance is bliss.
    (BTW, if you are a bike owner and consider me a dick, I can see why and I accept that)

      1st of all if you door check a motorbike, make sure he's dead or knocked out, because he's gonna give you a fisting with his knuckle protected cycling gauntlets if not and YOU'LL LOSE, he's got a helmet and more arm strength than you so just start running away.
      Oh and don't try to lean the motorcycle on curbs, mother grip will spit on your tires and you'll spin out and die, unless it's a 250, then you might be fine.

    Everything you said was true. Just bought a 2008 SE and the Evo analogy was dead on (even me being 21). But thankfully, I learned on the Ninja 250 (which your review perfectly summed up the bike) and knew better than to rip the throttle. But as you said, this bike really tempts you to go faster. Love watching your new reviews and going through the old ones!

    First bike at the age of 24, 2012 Triumph Daytona 675R(yes the R). Age 25 now, 8500 miles on bike. Have low sided once at a 25mph turn with cold Pirelli Diablo SuperCorsas on a 40Deg day out in the morning 8 months ago. Everyone Falls some day, but not everyone is immature. in less then 30 day's my Daytona and i Will be riding at Circuit of The Americas for a track day. Good review none the less but as you said this is a bike for someone more mature. Will admit though i've done multiple motorcycle courses to keep improving my skills and plan on doing the Advance Riders course once i make my way to lvl3 at track days. MSF BRC1, BRC2, and ARC already completed but thats nothing compared to track ARC. Wish i stayed in Cali longer to do the lvl1 and lvl2 total control courses.

    I think the power figures on sports bikes are somewhat misleading, because if you're not in 'race mode' in your mind, you won't rev that engine even close to the power or even torque peak.
    If you want a bike you can extract the power from and have fun on windy roads, not straights: Buy a supermoto ;-)

    • @Benedocta
      @Benedocta 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Zalonka My reasoning is: It's much easier to use the potential of a supermoto than that of a supersports bike. Of course, on the straights you're not as fast (but whats the point anyway), but if you're not Valentino Rossi, you are faster on twisty roads.
      Also, you can do a lot of fun but stupid stuff (wheelies, drifting, etc.) at speeds that won't kill you instantly if you fuck up.
      Another reason: A supermoto has wider limits. If you start to slide, you can still catch it. And if you lowside anyway, you just pick it up and ride on.
      My point is: A supermoto is much more suitable for public roads, which makes it not only more fun, but also faster on the roads where it matters.
      If you live in the Netherlands or Texas or some other flat place, a supermoto might not be for you, but then I don't really get the point of riding anyway.
      All this only applies if you only ride your bike for fun. I'm actually thinking about buying some UJM for commuting.

    • @Zalonka
      @Zalonka 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Benedocta You can use that Valentino argument about any bike ever made lol. Generally 90% of people will never use any bike to it's full potential even if you think you are. Sportsbikes are made for the twisties if you're experienced and know how to ride them correctly. I grew up on a farm and had a lot of mini bikes then had a Honda 250. I had a few ATV's and even a three wheeler. (not all at the same time) Yet the Honda 250 was always around and it was something I always came back to. You can learn a lot on a dirtbike or super moto and apply those skills to a super sport yet you can also learn a lot of different aspects of riding from a lot of different bikes. An example would be dirt track bikes.
      I'm not sure why you think all super sports are only good for straights but I do feel bad for your friends that know nothing about bikes and you brainwash this into them.
      Explain to me in detail how a Super Sport is not practical for commuting because if anything it's actually better suited for it. You have wind protection and the clip ons are far skinnier so you can filter a lot easier.. You also have a bit more power so it's easier to get out of dangerous situations. The only difference that you could possibly use as leverage would be these.
      A) Cheaper insurance
      B) A good beginner bike
      B though has other choices. Suzuki SV 650, Buell Blast, Kawi 250, Kawi 300, Honda 500,
      You are honestly just in love with your super moto and fail to recognize other bikes for their true advantages and disadvantages. You can't just go take a super sport off road yet even that can be arguable with a tire change..

    • @jamesbarros
      @jamesbarros 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      one of the benefits of the trip is that it is pretty usable from about 4,000 rpm. On the flip side, I talked to a friend who went to an FZ6 after years on an SV and complained that it didn't have anything at 2k. (yes, 2,000 rpms) so, I guess torque is where we find it.

    • @DJlobo702
      @DJlobo702 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd say it's closer to the Speed in that when each model was first introduced, they were king of their class and seriously impressive in power and capability. The Street was a derivative that only built on the success of the Daytona.

      Tumbleweed Folf False the speed has always used a 1050cc engine while the 675 uses that 675CC engine. Although the Street Triple also has 675CC's it's not the same. I believe they use different cams, crankshaft, and transmission.
      The power peak differences between the 1050 and 675 engines are vast. Trust me I'm a Triumph guy. I was actually on a 2014 Speed Triple a few months ago as well it was insane..... insanely awesome.

    • @thatkiddesign
      @thatkiddesign 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Zalonka If you're a triumph guy then you would know that the motors in the 675 and the street are the same. The difference is cams and a different tune. Otherwise it's the same. There would be no point to make internals different. It would cost too much. It's the same way the r6/r1 are detuned fz6/fz1's. Triumph wants to use as many of the same parts across multiple platforms to save R&D.

    • @Zalonka
      @Zalonka 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      thatkiddesign
      I said it probably has different cams, crankshaft, and tune. The only key difference is the crankshaft. It's obvious when compared to other companies that it's going to be "detuned" compared to the Daytona. I just wasn't sure if the crank was actually different or not. I don't have a Striple I have a Daytona.

    The term crotchrocket isn't a rigid industry term but a loose descriptor.
    It applies to bikes that are fast, have aerodynamic cowlings and/or a typically more aggressive body position moreso than where it's made and/or rather or not it has clip on handlebars or a specific engine type.
    Like sports cars in that you wouldn't say "A Corvette/Toyota Supra aren't sports cars because they weren't made in Europe/the steering wheel doesn't look exactly like other sports cars'"

You are just getting started.... . I wish that people would try something before they condemn it and also why can't you like everything.... everyone feels like they have to pick a side because they're so used to fighting over stupid stuff today. As I'm Portugal and I'm 21, the highest licence I can get (A2) before 24, limits me to a maximum of 47hp and 500cc. After 2 years of experience in A2 (or reach 24 w/out it) I can then upgrade to a limitless license, A.
      So the Ninjas are the most interesting option for me.
      Not the cheapest options tho, most riders here start at A1 license at 16yo that limits to 125cc and 15hp! You see CBF125, and PCX 125 everywhere because they are cheap to buy ,around 2000€ new, and super cheap to run ,125 MPG easily! And can go on highways.
      The Ninja 300 is 6000€ new, here.

    Rode a 2014 675R in LA a few months back for 5-6 hours, and holy hell was that a beast of a bike. Acceleration all over the place, and it just seems to never run out of power. Under 110 at least. It's a bit small for tall guys like me though, and staying in a constant tuck for 6 hours made me a little stiff..
    Taking it up PCH an hour and then through the canyons all the way back to the city was really great. If anyone is ever in CA and want to rent a bike, Racy Rentals is super easy to work with and the prices are actually pretty damn good. Spent $150 for a 24 hour rental. Not bad for a $15K bike.

    Small correction, the Street Triple is the naked version of the Daytona 675. Now, back in the 90's, the Speed Triple was the naked Daytona 955. Then the models went their separate ways. Daytona stayed at 955 until it became the 675. The Speed Triple went up to a 1050 and stayed there.

    I ride a Street Triple R, the naked, ever-so-slightly detuned version of the Daytona (of which a few other nerds have pointed out is correct, not the Speed Triple cited in the video). What Mr. Regular does get absolutely correct is the restraint you have to have with these bikes. I daily mine, and in normal operation I rarely have to crack 8k rpm to achieve legal speeds. It’s so easy to laze along the highway at 85mph in 6th at 7k rpm using like 20% throttle and the abundant torque that it’s easy to forget just what a monster lies in that engine.
    Every responsible motorcyclist needs to learn how to resist the stoplight call. Every balding middle-manager in his previous gen Porsche Boxster and 20-something in his fart-can exhaust Civic Si sees you and “wants to go, brah.”
    Resist the urge. Do not give in. I know it’s tempting. So, so tempting to show these people what power-to-weight ratio actually means. But please do not squid it up and end up either hurt or pulled over because you were trying to prove something you never had to. The next time a base-spec V6 Challenger peels out next to when the light turns green, just shake your head and laugh as he struggles to keep it in the lane.
