  • We review a horrible first bike: the Yamaha R6. Gugh! If you get this as a first bike you are a Dumb-Dumb.
    Dummy, dum dum dum bro-dum. Ugh, you're the type of dumb that buys a motorcycle without a title and buys a helmet from the Dirt Mall.

    I rode an R6 once. Within 10 seconds I was doing 3 times the speed limit and honestly, I swear I thought I hadn’t broken the limit at all. Smooth like a glass dildo, sexy like a bald badger. The R6 is a capable machine for sure.

      @@nomadben Thank you. That's what I'm talkin about. I've had my R6 for 3 1/2 years. I've never operated it within the confines of the law and never will. It has saved me $200,000 and 200 years in prison because I have "Felony Eluded" the cops over 40 times on it, I'm pleased to report.

    • @brennick7647
      @brennick7647 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@zachv1035 As long as you’re responsible with it, and exercise some caution ( especially when first starting) it’s not a bad idea. It has a lot of power to give so treat the throttle with respect and show some restraint. it should all go well. Now as far as a “first bike” it’s great in the sense you won’t grow out of it. Some people ride a 600cc bike and never upgrade, and tbh that’s completely rational. The R6 will handle whatever the road throws at you, and then some. But if you have never ridden a motorcycle in general or a sport bike more specifically, I would not make the R6 the first bike you ever ride. It is relatively light in terms of super sports. But the R6 particularly has a more aggressive riding position and a very reactive throttle. If your comfortable on bikes already, and have a Grasp on the basics of riding The R6 is great, and if your set on a 600 the R6 is the way to go.

I've only been up to 135 mph on mine and it was still pulling hard but I got scared and shut it down. It can get up there so fast you don't realize it. I knew I was travelling in excess of 100 mph but I was shocked to find I was doing 135 mph. Things were flying by me though pretty freakin fast when I think about it.

    I had a SV 650s as my first bike years ago. Its what I always recommend to people for their first bike. It has a very linear power band. No surprises when you are accelerating hard. It has enough power to keep up with faster bikes anywhere but the interstate. You can also turn it into a track bike when you finally buy a faster bike. Lots of people track them so its easy to find information and parts. Its also just a great bike and lots of fun.

Same thing happened, the bikes front tire washed out from under me and I ate shit.

      I'm no bike guy, but my personal reasoning is that if you want to learn how something works, you need to be able to learn on all its limits, lower and upper. If you can't handle a high revving engine that is not crazy powerful, starting on this is a stupid idea. Because you will learn how the bike handles at low rpm, but then once you reach the powerband you just die because you've never been on the powerband of a reasonable bike to understand what it means.

    The most important lesson you learn about driving fast vehicles is that it's not about bravery or raw skill or reckless abandon, it's about restraint. You have to be able to predict the future like a fortune teller as though they weren't scam artists. Scanning for gravel, oil slicks, inattentive drivers, cracks, potholes, corner radius changes constantly. It's about always knowing where the point of no return is and never crossing it. This isn't to say you can't own or use a truly fast vehicle, but you need to have the sensibility of Arnold in Terminator 2 scanning the road in his infrared vision to do it and come out alive. You need to understand tire grip, brake threshold, suspension travel, weight transfer, throttle control, and have all of your inputs trained to maximize each in any given scenario without conscious thought. Computers won't save you, either, those computers just allow you to go faster and faster before you run out of ability and it's too late for the computer to save you.

Never been down *knock on wood*, and it's been my only vehicle for 2 years with about 15,000 miles of riding on it up to date. I rip that thing full throttle all the time too, it's just about when and where, and perceiving what can happen, and what to do if it does happen. I live in the Tampa Bay Area too which is about as populated as you can get. Ride Safe and choose the bike that you like and makes you feel comfortable. this is my 3rd bike, and i’m glad i waited. It’s truly great as a commuter and fun bike to putt around on, but i really did need a few thousand miles on a bike to build the discipline for this motorcycle. It’s painfully tempting with how smooth it gets above 8k rpm and the sound up there is just magical. Really amazing bike, but you need to be extremely honest with yourself about your limits. This bike *will* kill you, and i’ve had a friend die on an R6 when he pushed too far. Ride safe and enjoy this machine

    • @bbman10pwns
      @bbman10pwns 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's because usable != wheelie power.
      It's got enough torque to be a pain in the ass to putt around in a city at sub 30mph speeds, but it won't wheelie in say, second gear, without dropping the clutch.

    • @BigUriel
      @BigUriel 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I never quite got that argument. The R6 pulls like 500 if you keep the revs low, if you're buying it with the intent of keeping the revs low because it's too fast on the powerband, then why not just get the 500 in the first place?

    This is awesome. That was me many years ago. Everyone had 600cc or 1000cc so I bought an 05 r6 in 2007. It had frame sliders, nice exhaust, steering stabilizer and cleaned up turn signals. I pretty much never rode a motorcycle before. I drove a manual car and rode a dirt bike once around a friends yard but that was about it. My friend brought it home for me. Then we went out riding. Tried to do a tight turn a little into the ride and fell over (day one) lmao. Oh well it had frame sliders so no damage. A summer or two later I discovered that the steering stabilizer was turned all the way up. I always thought the bike was hard to turn and never realized that was causing the issues. I drove it pretty easy most of the time. Never wrecked. Usually didn't ride with people because they got goofy doing stunts Or it was too hard to keep up in the corners and I didn't want to push it. It was a nice bike. A lot of fun.

    Guys, there are 300 / 400 / 500 cc bikes as well. The ninja 500 for example is an excellent started bike. I'm considering to start riding (although getting a license is a pain in the ass in my country), and that's my preferred bike because it's cheap as hell as well. And it can go in 5 second (sometimes less if you're good) to 100 kmh / 60mph. I don't think 250cc are the best bikes to start, because they're overpriced for what they do, although they do hold value and can learn you a lot. I can get the ninja 500 cc cheaper than a decent 250cc bike, and it's not like the ninja 500 or the new ninja 400cc is crazy fast. 250cc bikes are fun as hell tho, but you're going to grow out of it fairly quick. A 500 or 400cc you might keep for the next 5-8 years or maybe forever.(ye I posted this comment elsewhere as a response as well)

      I'm at 16,000 miles on mine, after a year-and-a-half. Still loving it. I mean, yeah, I'm dying to pay it off and add a super moto and a big sportbike to my collection, but the Ninja 300 is still a badass little bike.

      its no different then financing a car he probably paid 3-4k for it when its paid off he can sell it for 1200-1500 and he will have all the experience he needs to ride most bikes

    I started on a 2003 Yamaha r6 as a first bike, very intimidating Bike when you have zero experience. I took my time with it and went down about twice at walking pace and another two times at walking pace but with frame sliders. Slowly moved out from a parking lot, Nighbors and then finally main roads. Never really pushed my limits on the road and if I didn’t feel comfortable it was definitely a no go. Not gonna lie tho the first I gave it full throttle I was in for a surprise. Going 60+ mph before I knew it. I recommend taking a riding course, you’ll learn a lot and these lessons could save your life one day.
    Ride safe friends.

    That’s cute that you thought I would get a 600 as a first bike. Getting a Zx-10r.
