  • I got into the Ivy League and other selective universities with these stats (SAT scores, SAT subject test scores, AP exam scores, GPA), extracurriculars, and essays.
    I was accepted to Columbia with a likely letter, University of Pennsylvania (UPenn), California Institute of Technology (Caltech), Johns Hopkins, Rice, Vanderbilt, Emory, University of Southern California (USC) as a full Trustee Scholar, University of Maryland (UMD) as a full-ride Banneker/Key Scholar, and Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).
    Note: You do NOT need to go to an Ivy League (or any top-tier) college to achieve success! You should choose whichever college is best for you and then make the most of your environment!

    I forgot to mention one of the most important parts of this video: You do NOT need to go to an Ivy League college to achieve success (I'm not!). Different colleges are better for different people! Plus, your college does not define who you are. You should choose whichever college is best for you and then make the most of your environment! At Ad Astra College Consulting, we want to help you achieve your college-related aspirations, whether that's getting into college, getting scholarships that help you afford college, or anything in between. We never want cost to be a barrier to receiving our help so please let us know if you can't afford our services, and we're happy to adjust prices!

    1:50 - 100% agree, 1580 is a great score. Take the time to sleep in (or use the time you'd put towards studying to build out other parts of your application that'll help you stand out even more!)

    hello Mandy! you seemed to have gotten so many awards but the common app only lets you put 5 "honors", so i was wondering what did you do about that? did you just choose your top 5, or if you had more, did you manage to squeeze them in another way?

    • @MandyMade
      @MandyMade  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This was a question I had too, haha! I ended up including as many awards as possible in my activities section, and I just included my five "biggest" awards in the honors section.

    So, congrats. Impressive indeed.
    The formula for anyone interested is this:
    All As, plus multiple APs to run the GPA well above 4.5;
    Perfect or near perfect test scores;
    Be president of some clubs or organizations;
    Be a athletic standout and captain;
    Cure cancer or the like in prestigious summer jobs unavailable to the rank and file;
    Show some further passion in something or unique life hurdle or work 40 hours a week on top of the foregoing.
    Your application will then be seriously considered for the few Ivy spots left over each year after a majority of spots are taken by legacy applicants, applicants where a parent donated a building, athletes, and a few other special groups.

    Hi! Did you have a specific topic for your science research? I'm planning on working on one this summer but I'm struggling to fid a topic. Any advice?

    • @MandyMade
      @MandyMade  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi! Both my science research internships were related to biomedical science. One was in medicinal chemistry, and the other was in computational biology. I worked at a research laboratory with a mentor, so if you can work under a researcher/professor I think that is very helpful! If you can't work in a lab, I think computer science/data science type of research is generally easier to do remotely. For example, you could conduct some sort of analysis on social media data that's available to the public! You can also read research papers to get more ideas!
      I hope that's helpful! Also, I plan to make a video in the near future talking all about my research internships and how I got them :).

    All of these brag videos - and it is absolutely what they are - create unrealistic expectations, not to mention anxiety, for other kids. And what we don't know about this young woman is her level of privilege and how much help she got throughout high school and in prepping for college. She is obviously bright and seems like a nice young woman, but please do not use a student like this as a benchmark for your own high school and college application experience. Everyone is different. Everyone's brains work differently. And, there's literally hundreds of good colleges one can consider and which can prepare students for success.
