It is perfectly good as to a show all to itself, but really what 1883 is the TV-MA version of the educational video game Oregon Trail brought to life. Also, stars Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw (finally gets a great script that proves this country singer actually a really good actor), Faith Hill (this country singer gives a decent performance; and redeems herself from her only other acting film performance in that horrible remake of The Stepford Wives), LaMonica Garrett, and Isabel May. Also, has cameos from Tom Hanks, Billy Bob Thornton, Rita Wilson, and Graham Greene in it. Highly recommend it. Also the sequel series out now to 1883, 1923, that just finished up its first season, is really good as well. It stars Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, Timothy Dalton, James Badge Dale, and Brian Geraghty.
