i think anora was just young and naive. she didn’t realize that in reality the rich marry rich. i can relate to her because who wouldn’t want a cinderella story? unfortunately that doesn’t happen IRL..unless youre georgina and ronaldo
I just saw the movie, and I would love to see the guard, Yuri Aleksándrovich, nominated on something. He stole so many scenes and even with little gestures. I felt the ending more and more as ai saw the credits. What a rush the movie leaves you in. Amazing.
I enjoyed the movie, especially Mickey Madison's performance. I agree it was too long. I could've done without some of the time driving around looking for Vanya.
Didn’t get a chance to have a full conversation ahead of the Subtance’s MM screening but I’m glad I at least got the chance to say hi 😭 Hope to bump into you again
Great review and film! I really enjoyed Mikey Madison and Yura Borisov's performances. I agree with your criticism on the film being too long. Could have cut down on some of the montages, but other than that, I really liked it.
Saw it yesterday & not sure I understand all the acclaim (not just yours) for this film. The whole thing made me nervous & sad. I understood they were going for Keystone Cops-ish humor with the Russian dudes but I found it hard to laugh. And the “surprise” ending was telegraphed from moment Igor first shows up. I don’t know…wanted to love it but it’s actually a very sad movie & absolutely too long.
interesting what your humor style is. I was in a Korean theater and i think the whole theater burst out laughing many times during that hour long act 2
I think it made their dehumanization of her even more jarring. They were acting like she wasn’t even there, other than to yell at, insult, or assault her.

I'm curious which scene it was that made you feel like flying! But I agree - there was a moment in this movie that I just felt so happy - like this is everything i could want in a movie!
Strong disagree here. After seeing this, I enjoyed conclave, blitz and Nightbitch more than this movie. Too much sex, all characters unlikable af. Also seeing both Ronan in the outrun and Amy Adams in Nightbitch, they both gave better performances than Madison.
The movie is cynical, superficial, overwrought commentary on "Pretty Woman." The praise of this movie is ridiculous. Hollywood continues to show how irrelevant and out of touch it is.
Just saw it and..people overrate tf out of it. The film comes to a complete halt and drags after the first hour, and didn’t made me feel anything at the end
Too much hyperbole. No movie is almost perfect. 2hr 19 min movie too long, but 3 hrs 30 minutes just fine LOL. I hope I am wrong but the Oscar movies don't seem great this year. Hope I see them and some of them surprise me.
Noone I know watched this movie or knows who Sean Baker is so Im living through the few reviews there are out there, imagining being able to talk to somenone about this amazing movie :D Movie was def. too long, like many of Seans movies.
Sing Sing is the BEST MOVIE of the year and deserves nominations in most categories. The movie was shot on 16 mm film, in 19 days, with a very small crew. The DP, Pat Scola should be nominated for an Oscar for cinematography because the visual look, the lighting, the film choice, all created the naturalistic atmosphere to tell the story. Accompanied with Bryce Dessner's score that sells the beautiful scenes and intimate facial expressions. And kudos to the director, Greg Kwedar, who allowed dialogue to be ad-libbed at times, which created the emotional essence throughout the film that tugs at your heart. The cast deserves best ensemble because 90% of the cast are the formerly incarcerated men that participated in the RTA theater program while in Sing Sing and that authenticity shines. And what can you say about Coleman Domingo.... he deserves the Oscar this year, his performance is perfectly understated, and he allows the other men to shine because this is their story. Well Done!! Also, Clarence Maclin and Paul Raci both deserve best supporting nominations. Their performances tie the strings that pull the film to its brilliance. Best movie overall in a very long time and well worth the emotional journey.
A very good flick, but a long way off perfect. Had it not veered all over the place tonally, and committed to the overwhelming bleakness of haves/have nots and what they gets you, it could have been excellent. When the dippy Hallmark wish fulfillment fantasy finally came to an end, it showed hints of the devastating reality of money's undeniable control over everything it wants (and doesn't want). This was most brutally exposed when Garnick laid it bare to Ani, and she showed a rare moment of tears. Sadly, the threat of the monied was lost when the film devolved into Three Stooges skits and bumbling incompetence. If that was somehow the point, it undermined the tone it had built to that point. Any weight the henchemen (and by extension, Ivan's family) had was lost as they bumbled around getting parking tickets. When the Russians finally got their way (about 20 minutes late - definitely needed another run through the edit), they were shown as cold, powerful, aloof and threatening. Really didn't gel with what the film had become to that point. Bit of a mess tbh, but still a lot better than a lot of films out there this year.
You're just kidding, right? This movie sucks! It can't show anything new, there are a million movies on the same topic. It's pretty pathetic that Mikey is in such a disgusting movie. It's funny that a few people think that this ridiculous film will be the glory of film history! Seriously? This? Really? The director is a pervert!
I love how Mark Eydelshteyn has basically been identified as a Russian version of Timothée Chalamet, lmao.
It’s a Cannes tradition after the actor from The Hand of God was called the Italian Timothée Chalamet
Maybe that’s why I’m already in love lol
i thought he looked like younger Shawn Mendez and yeah, a bit of Timothée
Mark is funny as hell not stuck up like TC

His name is Yura Borisov. Aleksandrovich referring to his fathers name (Alexander) that’s the additional in Russian passport.
Anyone who’s seen “Tangerine,” especially its ending knows Sean Baker has been on that shit, especially the argument scenes

weird……just got back from the cinema in Incheon 2 hours ago and the whole theater was dead silent during the entire movie

It has a lot of strengths but I'd say equally many weaknesses. Can't go above 3 stars

Well, the movie is obviously not perfect if they are really pronouncing "Ivan" as "Eyevan" (ugh).
