Last night I fell asleep on the couch watching youtube on my laptop with my headphones on. The autoplay feature was on and came to this video, the sound at 0:20 woke me up. I've never been more scared and confused in my whole life than waking up in a daze to that clip. I quickly closed my laptop in fear and went to bed. Over the course of the day today I convinced myself that I hadn't actually seen this terrifying video and it was certainly just some sort of nightmare. I checked my history though and found this video, and the clip that haunted me. Watching it again I find myself even more scared and confused than I was last night.

The inclusion of GTA & Persona feel like they were included because of what they mean to Playstation now, instead of their importance to Playstation at the time. If they released a PS2 Classic with GTA3 and Persona 4, that would've made so much more sense.

FFVII, MGS, Resident Evil, Syphon Filter, Oddworld, Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3? The problem is that a lot of them are either great, but not top 20 material like Mr Driller, Super Puzzle Fighter II, Kurushi, Rayman, Wild Arms or they are the inferior ones in the franchise like Twisted Metal, Destruction Derby, Grand Theft Auto, games that see historical important for PlayStation buy aren't great low Jumping Flash and Toshiden or just straight up garbage like Rainbow 6.

They destroyed persona 1 on ps1. Its hella censored, they changed all the names , made one main character black despite him being called a monkey later on in the game which really might be problematic for them and then they made the game much easier and removed half of the game for the western audiences. The psp version fixes all of it.
It's me from the future: - Final Fantsy 7 got a full remake (and it's gonna be a three part remake) - Mr Driller got a Switch release - Persona 5 got an expanded re-release, Royal - and a canonical sequel, Strikers. Also it's gon be on Switch - and Persona 4 Golden isn't locked anymore on the Vita - Abe's Odysee and Exodus got a remake (New 'n Tasty, Soulstorm)
Fun fact: the Japanese version of the PS Classic came bundled with a different set of games, replacing Cool Boarders, Destruction Derby, GTA, Rayman, Oddworld, Twisted Metal, Siphon Filter and Tom Clancy with Arc the Lad 1 + 2, Armored Core, G-Darius, Gradius Gaiden, Devil Dice, SaGa Frontier and Parasite Eve. Still not a perfect "Classic" collection, but a hell of a lot better. Why couldn't WE get Parasite Eve or Armored Core? We didn't even get a single shmup.
The PAL ROMs were chosen as the PSClassic can’t reach 60fps, but can manage 50fps. Unfortunately, the PSClassic is locked to 60hz output, which makes the already choppier PAL ROMs juddery and awful as 50fps is being badly converted to 60fps, preventing even us European users from watching the 50hz content in its native framerate, minimising judder.
Judging by the lackluster game selection, I'm surprised they didn't include Bubsy 3D for 'lawl memes!'. At least it would have been more interesting...

In my game design class, we had to make a game based off of Mr. Driller. An entire semester and I didn't even remember it was made for the Playstation. I guess that tells you they chose pretty obscure games for that thing.
Many great true classics missing but I feel like the game library is not even the main argument AGAINST this console. If the hardware design wasn't flawed and it would have had some more options in the menu etc it would have been at least an argument against using other emulating systems over it.
Right. With it already having been hacked and one beeing able to put own roms on it, it could have been used as a fun, stylish little plug-and-play emulator, where you just put your own library on it. But even the emulator sucks so it really isn't worth it.

Funny you compare Mr. Driller to DigDug... ....It's actually a spin-off series to DigDug. Heck, the main character is actually the son of the DigDug guy.
Also all those formulaic fairy-tale-based "games" from Phoenix/Dingo/LJN/whatever (Animal Soccer World, Snow White & The 7 Clever Boys, Dalmatians 3, Peter Pan, Mouse Police, Cinderella, Dinosaur Adventure, Pinocchio, etc.) which are pretty much the same regardless of system (PS1 vs. PS2)
I think one more important thing to mention is that the actual emulator on the PS Classic, PCSX-reloaded, is literally the default emulator for Playstation on Retropie. So you can buy a Raspberry Pi, load it with that and instantly have something actually *better* than the Playstation Classic at a cheaper price, that you can load with whatever game you want (and other consoles to boot) and configure to your heart's content. It's just kind of a joke at this point.

Swpk I’ve got the PSP version on Vita. Is that any better than the one in the video? It seems like the original character designs are intact but is anything missing?
@@liamanderson7082 Localization changing names, races, dialogue, and the setting. The game also runs slower compared to the PSP version. The PS1 version is playable, but a lot of changes in it contrasts with the future games in the series released in the west.
Even then the psp version isnt perfect since it doesnt have the original sountrack and instead has a repetitive newer soundtrack that fits the later persona games.
I picked one up for 12$ new and in box last year, i didnt grow up on ps1, but I definitely had fun with it! It was a gateway of sorts into retro games that i hadn’t played before. I am now very into retro games and despite its poor reception, i have the ps classic to thank for that!

I get avoiding games like Crash and Medievil since they probably don’t want the classic to steal sales away from the remakes, but when you still have a large plethora of other iconic and recognizable games (especially Parappa the Rapper) then you have no excuse
I can't imagine anyone not buying the new games just because they got them on the PlayStation Classic, if anything it'd be some cross promotion. The originals still exist for PSone so if people were just desperate to play the old versions they still could. The remakes are supposed to be better
4:51 That wasn't just a thing for the PAL PS1s. Later North American PS1s had the same menu (including the one I owned). I think only the earliest batches had the weird bios menu.

There are 5 games they did on a Dreamcast classic they could put: Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi, Space Channel 5, Jet Set Radio (on 2nd iteration), and Sega Bass Fishing (because I bought it just to play that game). The other game is Nights into Dream, but that was Saturn.

Fun fact: the Japanese version of the PS Classic came bundled with a different set of games, replacing Cool Boarders, Destruction Derby, GTA, Rayman, Oddworld, Twisted Metal, Siphon Filter and Tom Clancy with Arc the Lad 1 + 2, Armored Core, G-Darius, Gradius Gaiden, Devil Dice, SaGa Frontier and Parasite Eve. Still not a perfect "Classic" collection, but a hell of a lot better. Why couldn't WE get Parasite Eve or Armored Core? We didn't even get a single shmup.

The PAL ROMs were chosen as the PSClassic can’t reach 60fps, but can manage 50fps.
Unfortunately, the PSClassic is locked to 60hz output, which makes the already choppier PAL ROMs juddery and awful as 50fps is being badly converted to 60fps, preventing even us European users from watching the 50hz content in its native framerate, minimising judder.

In my game design class, we had to make a game based off of Mr. Driller. An entire semester and I didn't even remember it was made for the Playstation. I guess that tells you they chose pretty obscure games for that thing.
Many great true classics missing but I feel like the game library is not even the main argument AGAINST this console. If the hardware design wasn't flawed and it would have had some more options in the menu etc it would have been at least an argument against using other emulating systems over it.
Right. With it already having been hacked and one beeing able to put own roms on it, it could have been used as a fun, stylish little plug-and-play emulator, where you just put your own library on it. But even the emulator sucks so it really isn't worth it.
I watched a lot of videos crapping on PS Classic but this is the most enjoyable one!

I think one more important thing to mention is that the actual emulator on the PS Classic, PCSX-reloaded, is literally the default emulator for Playstation on Retropie. So you can buy a Raspberry Pi, load it with that and instantly have something actually *better* than the Playstation Classic at a cheaper price, that you can load with whatever game you want (and other consoles to boot) and configure to your heart's content. It's just kind of a joke at this point.

@@liamanderson7082 Localization changing names, races, dialogue, and the setting. The game also runs slower compared to the PSP version. The PS1 version is playable, but a lot of changes in it contrasts with the future games in the series released in the west.
Even then the psp version isnt perfect since it doesnt have the original sountrack and instead has a repetitive newer soundtrack that fits the later persona games.

I picked one up for 12$ new and in box last year, i didnt grow up on ps1, but I definitely had fun with it! It was a gateway of sorts into retro games that i hadn’t played before. I am now very into retro games and despite its poor reception, i have the ps classic to thank for that!

I get avoiding games like Crash and Medievil since they probably don’t want the classic to steal sales away from the remakes, but when you still have a large plethora of other iconic and recognizable games (especially Parappa the Rapper) then you have no excuse
I can't imagine anyone not buying the new games just because they got them on the PlayStation Classic, if anything it'd be some cross promotion.
The originals still exist for PSone so if people were just desperate to play the old versions they still could. The remakes are supposed to be better

There are 5 games they did on a Dreamcast classic they could put: Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi, Space Channel 5, Jet Set Radio (on 2nd iteration), and Sega Bass Fishing (because I bought it just to play that game). The other game is Nights into Dream, but that was Saturn.
