Thank you everyone for helping me get to 1000 subs! I’m beyond stoked about it!!! Let me know what you think of the countertops in the comment section bellow!!
replacing the extended countertop over the fridge with another hinged countertop piece would get you a bigger driver seat desk/table space while also allowing more room to recline the seat while driving. just an idea for us tall very tall people. :)
So happy I found your channel. I built out a cargo trailer a while back and I loved it. Sold that and now I’m saving up to build out a 159 extended ram promaster. I just have to say that your videos are way more helpful than any others I’ve found out there by far. Also going to have to steal your color scheme. Looks great man!
I'm in the process of converting a promaster and your videos have been so helpful! Thank you so much! I'm leaning toward a countertop design like yours as I think it will be lighter than butcher block. My only concern is to make a seamless transition between boards as I don't have a planer. yours look amazing and the seems are almost invisible. is it easy to achieve that? I guess maybe walnut boards are more even than say pine?
Such beautiful wood and countertops. Love your attention to detail. Even lining up the ends so it looks like solid wood. Do you know where the walnut trees grew? I like the idea of a stove in a shallow drawer beneath the counter so it can be pulled out and used, leaving the actual counter free. Just a thought:)
I see you decided to switch to a propane stove. How did that effect your cabinet? Did you do anything special to accommodate the tank, or did you run a hose from the garage portion of the van and store it there?
It didn't effect it much, I had to cut a slightly larger hole for the stove, I didn't need to change the drawers at all, and the holes I. drilled into the cabinet I used to run the wiring for the induction.
Congrats on the subscribers Colton! What a milestone. The caps really turned out well too. You should be proud of that logo as well. Looks great! Love the countertops. Does the linseed oil eventually soak in? What other maintenance do you foresee for the walnut? Would epoxy be a good alternative? I just wonder how it would hold up under usage and scratches.
Hi Kenny great question! And thanks about the logo! The main maintenance would be to touch it up with some butcher block conditioner when it starts looking full. You know I’ve never really worked with epoxy so I don’t have a great answer for that!
Hey Colton - I'm trying this method out on my own van build. I glued/creg jigged 4 1x8s together, but they didn't come out perfectly flat. There is a bit of a bow/curve in the middle. Would you just plane it down until the curve is gone? Cheers for any tips!
counters turned out better than I would've thought....man it looks tough though. You think it's something someone should bother with trying to do themselves or just buy a walnut countertop and cut it?
love the countertops. Also I'm almost in the same place as you doing my build. Question, what kind of stove did you end up going with? I've been in between a couple different brands but want to make sure i have one that is safe for van use.
Hey Matt! Thanks! I have the Gaslands chef 2 burner black glass stove. I plan on running it off a 1lb camp propane bottle. I will be a full video on how I converted it to propane and installed it!
Great question in fact this route is more expensive, it’s all personal preference. My first van has the butcher block style, but I prefer the look of wider boards. It shows off more character in the wood and looks nicer!
Also the reason its more expensive this way is mainly because of the Walnut. It could be cheaper if you went with a different hard wood (Cherry, Oak, Poplar...) and then used a stain!
So happy I watched this! Can't wait to implement all your techniques. Thank you for the clear and easy explanations. I feel empowered now. #solofemalevanlife Definitely gonna shop through your list too!

I dig the b roll of the oil drip at 15:43. Huge b roll guy. ‘‘Twas spicy 🔥🔥🔥
Spiciest of the B roll hahaha
the clear coat going on is so satisfying to watch...the flip up counter top is a must - it adds so much more counter space for cooking in the van :)
#woodporn lol, and I know! So much functionality!
One of my favorite videos. Had to come back and watch it. I love watching wood get more and more beautiful!

Wonderful work!
Thank you 🙌🏻
Awesome solo build. 👌
As fun as it is doing it solo, it does take about three times longer😂
First time seeing one of your videos. Awesome job, awesome work. I got a few ideas from your build.
Glad you stumbled upon my videos! Hope you enjoy them

Hey there Colton. Do you possibly have a link for that drop-down countertop hinge?
Thanks

I don't know were the tree specifically was grown but I get all my hard wood from a local lumber yard in Boise!

Such great content! Excited to see your transit build. Question, how did you mount your refrigerator?
There’s slots on the inside of the fridge to put screws through!

Hey! To get all the boards flat I put them on a work bench and clamped them to the bench to get them flush. Then I screwed them in place !
What size walnut planks did you go with and what size strips did you cut themninto
They were 6" and 4" planks! and I cut them into the length of the cabinet plus a 1/4" overhang
counters turned out better than I would've thought....man it looks tough though. You think it's something someone should bother with trying to do themselves or just buy a walnut countertop and cut it?
It’s much easier to buy a counter top and cut it

Whats your reasoning for going this route instead of just buying a slab of walnut butcher block? Is this route significantly cheaper?
Great question in fact this route is more expensive, it’s all personal preference. My first van has the butcher block style, but I prefer the look of wider boards. It shows off more character in the wood and looks nicer!
