    Another grand video on a perfect winter's day. My brother and I did Sgurr na Stri a few years ago. We did a linear route. We took the boat to Loch Scavaig, climbed Sgurr Na Stri, and then walked back to Sligahan. It was a great day out.

      It's such a magnificent viewpoint. I did it last year in full snow conditions too. We were lucky enough to get a big snow storm, followed by a lovely blue sky day. It never seems to last long in the glen with the salty air. I've never used the boat yet, but looks like a great way to approach the hill.

    Just watching the end of the video. I don’t think I’ve seen better images of Scavaig , Coruisk and view of the whole ridge. Hope you can keep these videos coming as they are a lifeline for an 80 year old no longer fit enough to be out there. I have a million memories but your videos give my memories life and colour. Thank you.

      Yeah, I'll keep the videos coming. My primary motivation for hiking are the views, so most of the time it'll be good weather. I'm hoping to go down the same route, but turn off towards Druim nan Ramh at that big cairn, as soon as Skye is clear again. Hopefully after a good dump of snow on the peaks.

      Hi Michelle. It's a lovely scenic route coming down from Sligachan. With some of the best views of the Cuillin Ridge from Sgurr na Stri, especially in the morning with the sun lighting up the east face. Cheers, Andy.

    Was also rambling this hike from Sligachan lonesome in about 1991, but (unfortunately) without going up to Sgùrr na Stri! Were also great whether conditions at the end of july - really moving memories! So thx a lot from Berlin, Germany!
    [... ah, if you still don´t know - check out the two vids of extreme biker MacAskill from that area and enjoy! ('The Ridge' plus 'The Slabs')]

      Thanks. One of my favourite hikes. The views of the Cuillins are hard to beat from this hill, and it's only 500m tall. I'm hoping to get down to the neighbouring hill this week if all goes to plan.

    Lovely video. I did this back in 2002 before digital took off so carried a camcorder. i subsequently lost all recordings. Now that I am past such strenuous outings its great that through videos like yours i can relive those journeys in glorious colour. I can still remember the superb views afforded by the climb and the colour of the sea as it hit the little islets in the bay. Simply stunning.

      Hi Colin. Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching. The colour of the sea is fantastic down there. It really pops out on a morning like this too. Cheers, Andy.

      I also used to carry a very heavy camcorder whilst doing the Munro’s in the 90’s .Although quality nowhere near today’s standards, at leastI was able to transfer the footage onto a larger cassette and I can still watch them today as I have still got a VCR machine.

    Spectacular! Can you do this hike starting from lake Coruisk and any idea how long it would take?

    • @andy-astro
      @andy-astro  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, there is a boat trip from Elgol to Loch Coruisk, then it's a short hike up the hill. Shouldn't take too long from that side, I would guess an hour or two.

    Another fabulous video of a route I’ve often wanted to do but never got round to it. Footage of Blaven and the Gillean group is stunning. You seem to be out very often in the north west, Andy. Hope you don’t mind me asking if you are based up there ?

    • @andy-astro
      @andy-astro  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Michal. Yeah, i'm based in Lochalsh, so Skye is my usual go to for hiking. Sgurr na Stri is magnificent for such a small hill, perfectly located so it feels like the Cuillins are surrounding and looming over you.

    Great upload as usual ...how does the compass work in that area...a few river crossings to be noted for a wet day?

    • @andy-astro
      @andy-astro  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tom. I'm not sure about the compass on this route as I've never used it here, but it is unreliable on the ridge. I wouldn't rely on it here either. The path is pretty good most of the way to Sgurr na Stri, with just a few boggy bits before the final ascent. The river coming down from Marsco could be quite high in spate, but there are plenty rocks to hop over. Though given how epic the views are, I would only want to come down here in good weather so as not to miss them. Cheeers, andy.

      Hi Kevin. The scenes where I zoom in are filmed on the Pocket 2, the gimbal stabilization is great. The rest is filmed on the GoPro with the digital stabilization. ATB, Andy.
