A fabulous day on The Cuillin Ridge in Skye. I got up early and headed up The Great Stone Chute to Sgurr Alasdair before heading across Collies Ledge to Sgurr Mhic Choinnich. The Black Cuillin on The Isle of Skye are hard to beat on day like this - a superb outing....

Spent a week in the one on the right of 3 cottages seen at 19:18 into the video at the beginning of August. Got my wife, who is not a walker, up to Coire Lagan and sat there salivating about the thought of getting up the shute to Sgurr Alasdair and what I imagined would be amazing views. Now, just a couple of weeks later you’ve made my dream come true. 😃. Thanks Murray, for all the wonderful footage you bring to our screens.

Enchanting Murray, just enchanting. Brought back memories of my climbs there in the summer of '92 (wearing Derby tweed breeks and using W A Poucher's guidebook!). Never been so scared in my life. I went up over Sgurr Sgumain (a simple uphill slog) and on to Alasdair, the famed 'bad step' proving to be relatively straightforward. I recall it being so windless on the summit that I briefly had a butterfly for company, and didn't even need to shield the match lighting my celebratory pipe. Then down the ridge (v scary) to the top of the Stone Chute and straight on to the top of Sgurr Thearlaich (tough scramble). I'd planned on continuing the ridge north to Collie's Ledge, but my nerves had frankly had enough, so I dropped back down to the head of the Stone Chute and descended it to Coire Lagan. I still distinctly remember thinking to myself "Never, ever, try to come up this way!"
Not being much of a rock climber myself, that day was probably my greatest achievement. Confession - I took one tiny stone from Alasdair's summit, and it sits proudly (and still magnetic!) on my mantelpiece to this day. Those shots you took of Alasdair and Thearlaich from Mhic Choinnich have given me a real thrill - "Was I really up there?" - for which I am truly grateful to you Murray. I can even forgive those execrable trousers...
PS: Hope you've shaken off that nasty stuff you got from the tick bite earlier - are you OK now?

Murray, you have raised the bar to an even higher level this time. The raw edged beauty of that jagged ridge against the Atlantic shy was sublime, and you had the wisdom to allow the mountains and the sky to speak for ithemselves without imposing the intellectual and emotionally intrusive barrier of a raucous soundtrack of dimbo dance noises which are widely mistaken for appropriate music, and ruin so many cinematically excellent vids. Thank you .

Just getting round to seeing this, fantastic video. Although wish i had watched before i went up there, it might have prepared me for the exposure! i have done a few climbs, north buttress, tower ridge, observatory ridge but nothing prepares you for the exposure on skye.. hopefully next time my head will be screwed on the right way lol

Oh mate is that Camasunerie down there when you do your first piece to camera?? Yes it is isn't it! Your on the old military road. Ive just spent 10 days in the house at the bottom of the bay it belongs to my friend and he built the new bothy for all.....loved the video......I shot a film up there....it was some of the best weeks of my life...mooring the boats in scavaig natural anchorage and setting camera up the scramble to the ridgeline ....I felt over awed by the raw beauty there.....it almost gives you a sense of a lunar landscape and I can see why Ridley Scot shot scenes for Prometheus around the Old Man Of Storr.....It is a magical place. When in the lodge ...female red deer came to within 3 metres of my window in the evenings, it is rather like being at the end of the earth....a magical location visited by the vikings and old scots clans...whilst climbing up to the ridge we encountered boulders the size of a mini car..(believe it or not some of them do move when hand placing...the climber I was filming lost a 25 year old friend on the spot when he was taking a photo of him as one of those huge boulders in the valley within the An Garbh Choire shifted down over him)....curious gabbro rock with almost a tacky sharp feel.....I am in love with this place and the views it has to offer.....it will leave you with a magical over awed sense of love and respect for the earth and it's kept beauty......lovey video ...when we were filming in camasuerie we hauled up our lobster pots and caught no lobsters but lots of brown crabs...and whilst dropping the line for mackerel we encountered a small blue shark circling the boat ....iIwas really pleased to see lots of people bivving and camping on the shore......I will say though the golden rule is when there is no wind you must expect to be eaten alive by midgies lol!!!!!!! Take a mosquito headnet and tons of jungle formula/deet ..even on the summits the midgies simply will not fek off when no breeze ahhah! Thanks for the video....lovely production.

You could have ascended by the south ridge of Coire Lagan (Sron na Ciche) avoiding the dreaded stone chute. There is an easy chimney leading to Sgurr Alasdair.

Fantastic video, did Sgurr Alasdair in the mid 90s after a poor nights sleep in the youth hostel but the stone chute is something else, wish i had poles for coming down, i remember getting so frustrated near the top top section i decided to scramble up onto the summit rather than the chute, coming down was fast but kills your boots lol.
