Happy Sunday morning, all! I hope you enjoy our cover of this Simon and Garfunkel classic, The Sound of Silence. And thanks again to our friends at Kyser Capos for sending us those beautiful rosewood capos to use on this song! Art's roommate in college had a nickname "Darkness" because he was legally blind and the words to this song shows Art's interpretation of the world around him. Great job ladies! (missed you too!)
When I was in elementary school, I think it was grade 4 or 5, our teacher made us learn this song. It was many years before I understood it, but my point is that it's been with me for the past 53 years. In that time there have been a handful of covers that I found worthy of the original. Yours is one of them.
And I just got the cinco de mayo kyser capo and it really works great. It was 25% off at the kyser store, and with the extra 10% a no brainer. Thank you!
I have watched you every Sunday for years with my coffee in hand. But today I would especially like to thank you for a wonderful 66th birthday present. This performance. 👍👍👀🎸🙏
I'm 73 and this so reminds of my youth when life seemed so carefree as I remember it now but I guess it wasn't.I'm pretty sure it was in the backing of one of my favourite movies then too-The Graduate ,when I fell in love with Katherine Ross. Simon and Garfunkel would be so happy with your beautiful performance ladies.
A dystopian nightmare, reminiscent of the last verse of American Pie. “In the streets, the children screamed, the lovers cried and the poets dreamed, but not a word was spoken, the church bells all were broken”. You do Paul Simon so well.
Wow. I never noticed how much that last line resonates with this song-almost as if they are both referencing the same moment in time. Thanks for this comment!
"church bells"?? I thought it was "battle droids"! Hey, it's Sunday morning and my resistance is way down. I tried, I tried. And I'm of that much older generation, too.
When I was in graduate school, I played a cassette tape of Simon and Garfunkel singing this song until it was little more than shreds. Your rendition is, if anything, even tighter than the original. A masterful tribute to an iconic song. Thank you so much!
Hearing this song as a kid in the 60s a million times I never even noticed it. Now as an old guy I am getting quite emotional listening to you all put your heart and soul into this song. Thankyou
I think it's becoming a common occurrence for me to say, "I think this is my favorite thing y'all have done." This is one of my all-time favorites and you 2 did not disappoint at all. I'm going to put this easily in my top 5 covers of this song with ease. That was awesome!!! Thank you!
Wow! Beautiful harmony. Toni's muted guitar - just on the edge of silence at just the right times is amazing. Their covers are always more enjoyable than the originals in my mind.
I love the covers too. When the young ones do the old songs so themselves but so respectful and so appreciative of the originals, it's almost like we actually do have a culture.
I am a happily married old great grandpa so in the context understand I love you girls and hope you keep making beautiful music together and keep classic and classy pieces like this tune alive. Love your arrangement and harmonies and finger picking. This song has difficult phrasing but you nailed it. Excellent cover.
Such a great interpretation of a classic with some nice subtle additions. It’s mind boggling that Paul Simon wrote these lyrics at only 21 years of age. One of the greatest song writers of all time.
I, too, am a long time listener but never comment. This, however, was stunning. I can’t count how many times I’ve listened to this song in my lifetime, but I can’t remember one that moved me as much as listening to you talented young women. I must have clicked “replay” a half a dozen times.
Reina's voice is unique. Her voice is neither thin nor very husky, but it's very comfortable and soft. Her singing style is also light and warm. I want to listen to it no matter how much I listen to it. Tony's guitar and harmony are also great. It's a fantastic combination
When I was about 13 years old they took a group of about 50 of us boys out of classes for a couple of days and we formed a choir. We sang this and I am a Rock over and over again. To this day I’ve no idea why this happened, but it was the highlight of my five years in school.
I'm completely bewitched by the agility of Toni's right hand. What's more, she takes the liberty of singing and thus creating harmonies. This is one of the most accomplished videos on this channel. Along with "What a wonderful". Obviously, my tastes are my own. C'est fantastique. :)
@@johntomlinson-j6x I think she's made a guitar tablature. Yep! But when her hand strums the strings, with her fingertips, or fingernails, and comes back nimbly in arpeggio. I've rarely seen that technique. In fact, the real question is: what instrument doesn't Toni know how to play? I'm sure she can play the drums. But maybe not the harp, because it's a complicated and rare instrument? Haha! We are lucky!
Once in a while a musician finds a song that their voice is designed for. This is one of those for Reina. Goodness me that was wonderful. "And the sign said the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls"... that bit gave me full-on goosebumps! Thank you.
Just discovered Riena and Toni. I first heard this on Simon and Garfunkel's album in 1964 and was amazed at the lyrics a 21 year old wrote. I might add those same lyrics are even more profound today in our World some 59 years later. Your take on the song is much like theirs. Sounding sweetly harmonic underlying the disturbing message in a world gone mad. Beautiful!
never heard this my favorite song singing so beautifully with lovely ladies. this was my favorite early years when i was young boy playing guitar 6 years old
Thank you so much for this fine rendition of a classic song. You did it full justice. Few things sound as nice as two part harmonies done by musicians that understand each other blind. You two have definitly reached this stage. Couldn't take my eyes off Toni's right hand.
You two amazing talented young women just put the biggest smile on this old Viet Nam Vets face and in my heart.....thank you so much---never stop!!😇🥰😎🙏
You take me back to my 5 year old self, watching my father in his easy chair, pointing out to me the hauntingly beautiful harmonic vocal runs (yes he was a music nerd). I enjoy the other covers of this song, but you two capturing the tight vocals that made S&G so amazing for their time is a treat. ❤ I listen most Sundays but don’t always comment. I just had to today. Thank you.
You two girls gave this classic song, and especially its lyrics, all the respect it deserves. Many thanks for always showing the lyrics on your videos. Extra care much appreciated. Love you two.

Hello, John mccartney from England. I'm so glad that the Sunday mornings have returned. What a beautiful version of a great song. I was fairly young when this song was released, I'm 77 now. I wished I could have weathered as well as that song has.
An iconic, haunting and timeless tune in its original form but this rendition....well..it was truly breathtaking. I'm not surprised though. These particular musicians are exemplary and have never,in my recollection, played a bad cover. As usual, they knocked this song out of the park. Well done girls👏👏👏👏👏👏
Oof, everytime I think "Nah, this song is so worn out, I don't really want to hear another cover" you blow me away anyway, with a version I from now on like best. You two are incredible!

Benavides John: Hi Reina and Toni with an I. Loved your performance this week!!
This is perfect. The harmonies are spot on. It's a song that really suits both of your voices and I love it. Thank you.
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written in the last 100 years.
Paul Simon rocks
Beautiful!! Your harmonies are amazing.
Without a doubt. And the way these two play and sing it is something other worldly.
Agreed. No question.

Harmony - that’s what’s needed for this catalog, and you see it right here. Harmony
I'm 70 years old and remember this song like yesterday. You have filled my cup till it runneth over. I am joy filled!! thank you both.
The connection between Reina and Toni sends chills through me.
It's a connection only lesbians can have.

Im 73 also, It reminds me of my youth, not so carefree. I was slouging around rice paddies and the jungle with my rifle, trying to stay in one piece!
So good to hear young folks playing the music of my youth, and performing well, without the need for all the flash.
The dynamic duo do it again. Brilliant 🎶🎸🎶😀
