Same here. It's just not what it used to be - objectively. MCU ended at Endgame, even if I did like some of what they've done sense. Endgame was the perfect ending for me.
@@quanteellison2650 I only watched it in case anything important happened because I have no interest in this movie. But I still have hope for the MCU to improve so i stay up to date. I’m just too invested in the universe now to stop haha
I'm basically keeping up with MCU plotlines through spoiler reviews as nothing is grabbing me enough to spend money or time actually watching anything right now
Quality is definitely down, but if you haven’t seen Loki… It is so worth your time. Amazing show. Hard to believe the same studio can make a show like that and a movie like The Marvels(Not the worst movie I’ve ever seen, but after watching Loki season finale last night, it just doesn’t feel like the same universe)
@@stephenhernandez36Loki literally revived my hope and interest in the MCU. If the crucial stuff in the MCU has the quality of that second season, I'm onboard COMPLETELY
This movie probably would've been better, weirdly enough, as a Disney+ show. They might've actually been able to flesh out the ideas they were trying to do here. As it is, it kinda feels like they wrote the mid-credits scene first and then tried to write a movie that gets them there. Because it really is the only thing that actually happens.
What you are saying makes sense, however, we've seen enough Disney+ shows to know that even those tend to be just filler with barely any development made only to hype the next thing.
@@Kowkarot Loki is a great example of why that isn't entirely true. The crew who worked on Loki would've been able to turn The Marvels into a fantastic show if they were given the chance.
Of course we like hearing you talk about it. My favorite part of most Marvel projects the last few years is the resulting TH-cam videos of people mocking them.
@@benwasserman8223Spoiled? Because we expect well written, acted, directed and produced movies when spending our time and money? Are you Kevin Feige?
@@agentbrown5542 Because the majority of Phase 4/5 is still largely good and infintiely better than bad 90s/2000s superhero flicks. And either we've just forgotten how bad that landscape was, or like to pretend it was all underrated. Also I think Loki season 2 just proved the MCU has some well acted and produced content under its belt. ;)
I find it so bizarre that, after so many movies and tv shows teasing the idea of the multiverse and particularly the X-Men universe interacting, the one where it finally happens...is THIS one? The one that wasn't marketed as a multiverse movie in any way (up until that last trailer where they realized they werent selling people)? It really feels like the movie wasn't testing well so they decided to thrown in the X-men introduction on a whim just to sell tickets.
And then, even the way that they chose to reveal the X-Men existing in the MCU was confusing as well. We know that a little character by the name of Rogue has a long history with Captain Marvel and ultimately gets her powers from her. If they were so eager to introduce mutants into the MCU, why not have Rogue be the "villain?" That would have been awesome!
@@myfddreamthat’s an interesting take on it. More likely scenario is that we just appreciate the content creator. Regardless if the film was good or bad I would’ve watched this video. Regardless of Jeremy’s opinion, I still can make my own opinion on the movie too. Which, in this case, is a lack of an opinion, because I haven’t watched the movie. I just enjoy listening to the content because it’s delivered in a generally compact and enjoyable summation
It should’ve been a Captain Marvel centric movie focusing on her dealing with the repercussions of her mistake on the Kree homeworld. We should’ve saw her do this at the beginning. Then it could’ve been about redemption and what it means to do the actual right thing vs doing what feels right because it serves you. Could’ve gone a more dramatic route. Kamala even could’ve still been an important secondary character as someone who is still idealistic and naive vs Captain Marvel’s battered and burned out state. More of a buddy cop movie. Then Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel could’ve learned to be better heroes as CM learns about sacrificing her anger and ego and lightening up and Ms. Marvel learns that it’s not all fun and games. Monica could’ve still been in it, but it should’ve spent more time with Carol and Kamala.
Or there should have been a second Captain Marvel movie before The Marbels because there's a movie in this movie that deserves exploring. But this is a desperate movie after the critical reception of Captain Marvel (and Brie Larson) received. It's tough. This is how fans and a movie studio can wreck what could have been a good thing. 🎉
Yeah. Come to think of it, just removing Monica's character from 90% of the film would have helped a ton. Not her or the actor's fault. They just didn't write a compelling story arc for her; she's just there to explain the techno mumbo jumbo and -- in theory -- add tension to Captain Marvel's character. But it stepped all over what was actually interesting about the movie-- the Ms marvel and cpt Marvel duo
Kelsey Grammer never really had a problem with sitting in make-up if I recall correctly. He even went into full make-up for a small cameo for Days of Future Past. I have NO idea why they made Beast a CGI creature. His appearance in X-3 was perfect!
Marvel these days just CGI everything since its cheaper and faster than taking the time to apply practical effects. Its a shame because I believe practical effects are a dying art in modern blockbusters.
I think amongst all the reshoots, this was probably one of them so it's a rushed job. I'm guessing, the end of The Marvels with Ms Marvel and Kate, that was supposed to be the mid credit.
The main villain Derpy (I don't remember her name, don't care to remember her, and refuse to look up her name) could've been good if she was written by a person. A bright eyed new Kree soldier who's first day in service is the day Capt. Marvel destabilizes her world. With her people on the verge of starvation, drought, suffocating, and eventually death via the destruction of their sun, she ends up taking charge to help her oeolle survive. 30 years later and she's now seen as the savior of the dying Kree race. She's tired, she's at the end of her rope trying to keep her people safe and provide for them, but most importantly she's scared that even with all she's done it won't be enough. Then she hears tales of a legendary relic that could save her people at the cost of possibly destroying the universe. Will she not attempt destroying the universe, or will the need of her people out way her morale judgment. That's what should been! Instead we got, as Jeremy rightfully dubbed, "Dollar Store Ronin".
If you don’t like the execution of the villain you are free to do so of course, but isn’t what you just wrote that the character should have been almost completely what the character was in the movie?
@@frostdragon7135I actually think it was. I also think this movie was for a younger audience than those of us who have been seing the MCU for the last 15 years. The main character (I would argue is Chamala) is 13 I think, that's their target audience, 13 and younger. With that in mind it's a good movie for kids. We have grown, we are not the target demographic anymore. Or at least, not in this particular movie.

The "Marvel is responsible for the sun dying' thing is explained as "she destroyed their leader and left a massive power vacuum in its place, which led to a massive civil war, and that civil war is what used up all of their air/water/sun power".
It’s an marvel to see everyone roasting this movie by saying what an marvelous grand failure it is just like Netflix doing an animated series of the terminator and finding away to ruin it by making the series child friendly just like Rambo and RoboCop in the 80’s poor Stan Lee will be rolling in his grave after finding out that his legacy is being turned into a pathetic joke. It’s like next year’s ghostbusters movie is going to be about the dangers of climate change I’m calling it now even oswalt and Nanjiani is in it.
Ronan actually plays straight man to the Guardian's goofiness, so it works in his favor that he's generic in that film. It also helps that he is an established villain in comics with material to adapt from. Dun Barr isn't a big Captain Marvel villain and is such a minor character in the comics that there is barely a Wikipedia article on character. Why wasn't one of Carol's Rogue Gallery used? Moonstone, Mystique, Super-Adaptoid... The list isn't big, but it is varied. Even M.O.D.O.K. would have been better choice since he's fought Ms. Marvel in the comics.
I would have loved to see Moonstone, a skilled manipulator in addition to a similar power-set. Mystique isn't in the MCU proper (yet) and Super-Adaptoid really works best when it has multiple people to mimic powers from so best saved for something with a large team.
@@HBHaga Moonstoone would have been the obvious pick for me in a film called 'The Marvels.' She's also used the Ms. Marvel name before turning to a villain and that could've given the title a triple meaning.

@@dark3rthanshadows if those movies all told good stories and built up interesting characters I guess it would be fine. Then if they are supposed to exist in the same movie universe they would just need to not contradict each other too much. Power scaling shouldn't be too inconsistent, although it is in the comics, so fans should accept that.

I have no idea about how a sun dies in this masterpiece of a movie but in the real world the "dying" is just the fusion in a sun moving to heavier elements
Correct. And the results vary, stars "die" in many different ways. Some blow up. Some expand and then shrink- and then expand and shrink again. Sometimes it's cataclysmic, sometimes they just fade away. And I love Jahns, but he's incorrect about the eventual fate of our sun, as it evolves it will expand and actually become cooler. And then it will just cast off its out layers and all that will be left is a tiny white dwarf in the center of a planetary nebula. If anyone wants to see how our sun _will likely_ appear in 5 billion years, look up The Ring Neubla. My guess is Jahns was just confusing a red giant's increased volume and brightness with increased heat.
Captain Marvel destroyed the A.I. (The Supreme Intelligence) which then caused a civil war for control between different factions since the whole society was basically lead by that A.I. for a millennial+.
I guess their sun also happened to crap out at the same too since that seemed unrelated to the civil war unless one of the Kree factions intentionally messed with their sun which I don't recall them saying so I'll just chuck that to unfortunate timing for their sun to give out like that.
@@deathsyth8888 so basically captain marvel has nothing to do with their sun if the civil war in their planet not causing the sun to dies, and the villain just blamed captain marvel for it !? yess it is so vague
I like that Carol's second costume is a nod to her original Ms Marvel costume from the 70's, but I also thought the same about it looking really cheap. It's like they had the costume designers from the arrowverse working on this movie.
@@RoadWulf I get where you're coming from, but I personally didn't like Monica's costume. For as cheap as it looked, I still liked Carol's costume more. The minimalist approach grew on me, and again, I'm biased because I like her original costume from the 70's.

I agree mostly with Jeremy. Can someone explain to me why Monica was so well versed with Fury and all this superhero stuff? Last time i saw her she was meeting scrolls in wandervison. What did i miss in between
She's been doing "superhero stuff" since she was a kid in Captain Marvel, and has been looking towards space for her entire life to follow her mom's dream. That's part of why she joined SWORD. When she was meeting "scrolls" at the end of "wanderision," they were recruiting her to join Nick Fury on the SABER space station. She had apparently been using those powers to make spacewalks and external repairs more easily (which we see her doing in her first scene in The Marvels). It might not be as glamorous, but she's still using superpowers and working with Nick Fury. So it's not unprecedented by any stretch

Sir, some people actually enjoy it. You don't speak for everyone based on your own taste. People go to a movie and spend their money because they want to see something. Whether they come out pleased or not. It has been this way since movies was created...but I'm sure you were just born this generation and don't have a clue and just a follower. This movie was very good.
I’m sick of modern tv and have been watching Frasier and Seinfeld. The thing that really stands out is how rich the dialog is! Today everything is on the nose “I’m angry at you because you said I’m fat!” rather than something with subtext, “I’m sorry I laughed at you when you said you were going to a protest to save the whales… it really is just self preservation isn’t it?”
Check out the tv show "the middle." It's mid 2000 but it has smart writing, realistic characters (if you know people like that), and consistency for props/throwaway comments throughout all seasons (which I've never seen before). Of course, like any good series, the first few episodes as the worse (cuz it only gets better).
As far as what the MCU should do next, I always refer back to what Call of Duty Zombies did: collapse the multiverse into a single "legacy" dimension and start over with a single new universe. You can still reference the old timelines, but the new world can have entirely new stories and not need to worry about fitting into the continuity mess that came before it.
The word that describes our interest is schadenfreude. Thank you, Germany; we had no word for our feelings about Marvel Phase 4 and the current state of Disney as a whole, but you came through in splendid fashion.
@BigPurpleCarrot Ah, yes. Sorry. I thought it was autocorrect "Thank You, _Jeremy_," as though Jeremy had taken the hit and watched and delivered the review, but I see what you actually said, now. Poor reading comprehension on my part. It was late!
When they're witty about it, like Jahns, I like it a lot. When they're just nitpicking like philistine fanboys it can get really tedious. Jahns is one of the only people on TH-cam I'll watch producing this kind of content. Witty people are rare.
@@minhocho5487maybe, but the quality also needs to improve, no one likes to see a franchise if the newer episodes are worse than the ones that came before. In my case for example I'm no longer interested in going to see the new movies some even after they are on stream or even in the high seas, they killed them slowly.
@ 1:55 Thanks for bringing this up! I definitely posted a comment like this.. But we really do appreciate you goin' back and correcting yourself like this. It's very humble of you to admit you missed something. Most people, especially here on TH-cam, would just pretend they knew the whole time. Your humility does not go unnoticed.
I liked the movie, I also like this channel, I don’t mind differing opinions I just don’t like when reviewers insult people who like things they don’t and vise versa. You tend to start away from that so I appreciate it.
If this movie was told from the villain’s perspective, she actually be a hero. An alien came out nowhere and destroyed the system that was sustaining her home planet so she goes on a journey and finds a bangle that can bring resources back to her people. She establishes a peace treaty with the kreel until the same enemy returns with two other villainous women and tries to take her hammer and bangle away from her. One of three of them even has the other bangle to her set. This villain never has conversation with me about why my portals are so dangerous and just continues to attack me and kill our men. 🤔 This is my main problem with this movie.
I have some nitpicks with these arguments as a problem with the movie, even if they make sense in terms of perspective. Carol didn’t come out of nowhere, she attacked the Great Intelligence for masterminding an attempted extermination of the Skrulls. The Kree in the movie never acknowledge any responsibility for their own actions being what ruined their planet, even if Carol’s set that in motion. Even without factoring in that Dar Benn specifically targets worlds connected to Carol, she’s still leaving entire planets devastated to save hers. DB hadn’t yet established peace with that group of Kree, she was there for peace talks. The only deal she then offered was “relocate now to my world or die, because I’m about to ruin this one”. Kamala having the other bangle is neutral-it’s not some stolen artifact, Dar Benn found her half too. She does not stop to ask if her creation of new portals could be dangerous, and the Kree are generally more technologically advanced, so if human scientists could figure that out, they could to.
@@jacobd1984 Personally it shouldn't have been Dar Benn, but Gladiator from the Shi'ar Empire. Since they messed with normal canon they could have easily pulled Gladiator in due to the Kree needed help after Carol's actions due to being weak they had no choice but to go to the Shi'ar Empire for help. They should have kept this movie simpler than what it was since the story is messy
people want to hate a film so bad they make up issues that were explained in the film. The bad guy was bad...shocker even if they had their own intentions its how they go about achieving it. Thanos also wasnt bad fully but he was still bad...yet people love him. People lately just wanna hate marvel, though ill admit the movie wasn't good, they did explain things. A flawed hero isnt a bad hero in fact it makes captain marvel more likeable that she made an honest mistake and owns up that she feels pressured to be perfect. @@jacobd1984
She was attacking planets and taken resources from where captain marvel interacted or lived in instead of going into abandoned or not populated planets. That's how much she hates her and that is why she is a villain
I genuinely feel like them using the xmen is the break the glass in case of emergency moment. I also feel like they established another earth for no reason. I genuinely think Monica should have ended back on earth 838 because they've established that world and seeing it again makes it feel like it matters.
My favorite was the entire film banter of them trying to come up with a Superhero name for Rambo, only for them to never actually give her name. That was fun.
Man I would love to see an MCU film where we bait and switch have the superhero whack the evil AI out of existence in the first 20 minutes and the movie's actually about the horrible consequences of doing that.
That's literally what this movie is about. Carol Danvers destroys the Kree AI Supreme Intelligence that was running their society 30 years ago after the events of Captain Marvel to stop the Kree Skrull war the AI was telling the Kree to do. The Kree then destroyed the environment on their planet in a civil war that broke out in the power vacuum of the AI being gone, then the villain in this movie found a Quantum Band and was using it to steal resources from planets she knew had meaning to Carol Danvers (the air from the Skrull refugee planet that Carol helped them find, the water from the planet of Carol's prince husband, the sun from Carol's home Earth). Carol's redemption for destroying the AI and causing the civil war is that she restarted Halla's sun to save the Kree people after she stops the villain.
Marvel Studios whatever it is how about giving viewers quality stories where characters learn something that make them better people, characters who make choices that result in bad results and take accountability or get held accountable for their actions? Avengers brought back billions of people. How about showing Avengers working to help rebuild lives, rebuild the economy, rebuild businesses? Other than that if want some realism in the movies then characters who have to face consequences if they make a problem worse.
When the movie first announced it would have Monica and Kamala I thought it would be more about having to come to terms with who idols actually are. If you remember Monica was a Carol fan girl too when she was young, but through the events of the MCU she seemed more jaded towards Carol. I thought we'd get an adventure of Monica kinda hating Carol, Kamala being a fan girling, and a Carol that's a jaded seasoned hero that has to relearn why she does this and what she actually means to others. A little disappointed that the concept was a throw away line.
Exactly. I just finished watching it and when they were on the space and captain marvel meets kamala properly right after Monica started to admonish Carol for not coming back. That should have been the character development and emotional beat. That's what they should have relied on as not just a superpower connection but emotional connection between them. They legit didn't need a villain. They could have made it so the plot is then trying to untangle and finding the bracelet is the only way. I feel like they were so close to getting it right and just missed it by generalizing the plot too much for the masses instead of writing a good movie. Its clear they just wanted to make an entertainment movie and a real, ground breaking movie. Which ironically...would have supported representation more than this forgettable movie...
@@cheetah219 Right on the money with this opinion. Although, I do feel like the villain could have been used in this connection as well. She blames Carol for the death of her world. All of this is happening because Carol was neglectful. Neglectful of her relationship with Monica and her mother, of her take down of the Kree homeworld, and to a degree of the Skrull refugees. So much that could have been unpacked and explored.
Great episode Jeremy…Honestly, watching your entertaining reviews on such movies is the only positive thing that comes out of Marvel making movies like this.
At this point i don't think they need to cutback. I think they just need to stop all together for awhile and reboot, and figure out what kind of story they want to tell, because they clearly have no idea right now.
I think it comes down to the cinema artists. It appears Marvel has been handing the controls over to creators who are either total mediocrities or they simply don't give a damn. All of this begins and ends with the artists. Hopefully better filmmakers are on the horizon.
Filmmakers, writers should be to me mandatory that they are fans of the characters from the comics they write stories for, not just work on a film to pander to a minority or to get paid.
@@keithpace9870 That is beyond silly. Being a fan doesn’t guarantee that you will make a good movie about the thing you’re a fan of. The real issue with the MCU right now is the rushed production, overworked VFX artists and a stagnant formula that’s been forced to the point where directors have little to no creative control, so almost every new film ends up feeling the same. Ant-Man 3 didn’t suck cause fans weren’t writing it. Hell, that had an actual comic book writer on board; it still sucked. Dr Strange 2 had Sam fucking Raimi directing, but it was mid because he had so little creative control that the story was a mess. Don’t even get me started on Black Widow or most of the Disney+ shows. Only Guardians 3 and Black Panther 2 were any good because the directors had actual creative controls and writers who were good. THAT is what we need. Not people who are super fans or whatever. We need directors who can actually control how a movie is made, workers that get the time needed to work right and passionate writers and actors, regardless of them being fans or not.
@@mcnultyssobercompanion6372 That’s not the issue. Marvel Studio execs have more creative control over the movies than the directors or the writers. The directors are there to just be superficially in charge, but most of the work has been done in VFX and by committee before a director is even hired. The Marvel formula is what’s the problem. By your logic, Sam Raimi is a mediocre director cause his Marvel film sucked. That is obviously not true, but that’s what you’re implying.
I would have loved it if it was Reed Richards in a lab with her and him saying, "I should let Charles know about this". Giving us both the x-men and f4! lol
But imagine if that (or something to that effect) was the post-credit scene in Avengers: Endgame. Three years break and bam! We starte MCU phase 4 with F4 or X-Men
@@binaldoshi495Honestly, I think they shouldve made the Fantastic 4 the new main focus of the MCU after Endgame. With new Avengers existing but F4 being the main focus.
I think Valkyrie’s appearance is less sitcom-y and more like the actual Marvel comic books-it’s a lived in universe. And summoning the Bifrost is easily explained; she’s the King of Asgard, so she is in charge if it just like how Odin would be. And I personally had a blast with the two side quests you hated *because* they were stupid. It’s not like Quantumania doing insanely stupid things but taking them seriously, this is the film knowing it’s stupid and having fun with it. And I thought it was clear that Kamala’s looking up to Cpt. Marvel so much is done as a parallel to what Carol and Monica’s relationship and I really liked the character work between the three, though is it cliché? Yes, but it was already set up in the first Cpt. Marvel and it just continued it, and well in my opinion. But yeah the plot makes absolutely no sense and the villain is dogshit, but with the light tone and silliness it maintains I think it gets away with it. I had fun, sue me.
"I had fun, sue me" is my entire reaction to this movie. The powers don't make sense? Maybe not, but they make for some really fun action sequences. The flerkittens are shoehorned? Maybe, but I can't imagine the kind of stick you must have sat on if you didn't enjoy watching that. I'm not going to defend the movie's cinematic value or anything, but there were definitely interesting choices (the splitscreens, off the top of my head). Overall I'm excited to give this a rewatch, and frankly confused why it's being received so overwhelmingly poorly.
I think it's definitely one of the fun lighter Marvel films. I'm not sure what folks want. If it's too dark, they won't go because it's too dark. If it's light fun, it needs to be more serious. I thought it mostly made sense in its universe and I had a good time.
They should probably just give some directors freedom to make their own proper superhero vision. I'm sure a _good_ superhero movie could still work, but they've locked themselves into an "extended universe" that was fubbernucked almost from the beginning.
5 years ago I was excited about the prospect of the X Men coming to the MCU. Now, I'm not sure I care anymore. I haven't watched a MCU movie since Dr. Strange MoM. Maybe if we finally get to see a decent Gambit, I might sort of care.
Rogue flying, absorbing power or abilities of foes to use against them and super strength. Maybe a story where part of it Gambit and Deadpool fight for Rogue's love.
They should separate the shows from the movies. People don't want to switch between show and movies. Not everyone has D+. The Show can be in the same universe but you shouldn't be required to watch Wandavision & MsMarvel in order to understand "The Marvels"
Suns can die in multiple ways, but in general, they get cooler as they expend their fuel. However, they can expand and get bigger (less dense though) as they die. This process can cause the sun to get closer to the planets in their system (or just envelope them entirely). As a result, the planets themselves will oftentimes experience much more intense heat. The sun being technically cooler doesn't actually feel cooler if it's also right on your doorstep.
But doesn't suns die because the matter ergo helium and hydrogen are burnt up? How does Carol powering up their sun help it? Shouldn't it have just died out quicker?
@@brsc5998 i was confused because suns have both energy and matter. And like you said the energy of a star or sum does out not because it runs out of power like a cell phone with no charger for days but because the mass ergo matter becomes too much for the energy to sustain. Like you said creating heavier elements. Difference between matter and energy. Even if captain marvel can jumpstart the sun like a car bettery, the physical matter of the sun is like a car battery having no more battery acid inside of it to even allow the jump start to work. Like lighting a candle that has no more was or in this case the was becoming a heavier element. Very lazy to not know the difference between matter and energy. That's middle school basics about stars and suns, they are gases/plasma balls in space not just big energy balls. An easy fix would've simply been Captain marvel jumpstarting some power source on Hala they relied on solar power for. Also would make more sense if the supreme intelligence was destroyed their solar powered grid system would collapse if it was ran by the supreme intelligence creating power shortages and a reliance on stealing other people's sunlight for their solar power. But I'm not a Hollywood editor or writer or producer so what do I know I guess?
@@brsc5998 I mean, the gist of what they wrote *is* that she just gave it a bunch of energy, so it's in the in the ballpark even if they don't understand why. Also what if she just broke down the heavy elements?

As a old school Carol fan, thrown of the golden gate Bridge, Avengers Annual#10.I don't blame the actors or writers no, I blame the producers & executives at Marvel for letting these projects out the door. I have read better 4 issue runs than 80% of Mcu content, Scoreses is correct on his opinion of Mcu. This is why they are diving in popularity now.
I thought the beast cameo was kinda neat but I hope the x-men from the previous timeline don’t become the main x-men since I was really hoping for a reboot of the team so there’s be no previous baggage. My theory is the x-men from the previous timeline will just be cameos up until Secret Wars which will probably reboot at least part of the MCU so we can have a new X-Men team.
A friend of mine is a physicist who presently works on AI projects. A few years ago at a Christmas party myself and another friend asked him, "How close are we to Skynet? Like, seriously?" He looked at us like we were mentally disabled. Basically, we're nowhere close. That kind of tech is apparently outrageously advanced. We're still in the stone age.
@@mcnultyssobercompanion6372 saw an article yesterday about a phd from harvard in the AI field suggesting we're 3-8 years from AI becoming self aware, just that scares me lol
For me I think Disney needs to chuck out their checklist and focus and comprehensive stories. It seems like their desperate to gather a new group together as quickly as humanly possible just so they can attempt to have endgame energy again and that’s obviously not the way to do it. Endgame was great because they took their time and told proper stories for thee characters they spent large amounts of time with. These characters feel like they’re being guided and rushed forward. Kind of like being on a tour of a building that’s about to close. Just my thoughts.
When they mentioned Captain Marvel was off "Saving other Planets" was always questionable to me when she has no idea how their geopolitics even function. Low and behold, she screwed up a whole civilization based on her personal bias against an A.I. system that runs it. I actually liked that plotline of this story. It was something that I've mentioned with her involvement in conflicts in other worlds. She'll pick a side and screw everything up for one civilization while being able to go back to her home planet Earth that has no involvement in the conflict if worse comes to worst.
I believe they need to cut back on: -IRL politics and social issues ( not erase them but slow down a little, it’s a move not a conference) -They need to give proper stakes and losses to the movies. -Fire the actors that the fans do not like or that aren’t up to standards. -Slow down on the jokes. -Bring back the real purpose of the movies: Upping the stakes, upping the scale, connecting the dots so that the Avengers movies don’t have to focus on introducing the characters and past issues. // All in all. The movies lack clear directions. There is a world where Kamala khan was the main hero of this movie and where you didn’t need Carol Danvers (the fanbase dislikes Brie Larson) or Monica Rainbaud. I don’t have an issue with Dar-Benn being the Villain. She is an accuser and she is a Kree just like Ronan the accuser. Just give her an intriguing backstory, real stakes and give her real impact. People are allowed to die in the MCU. Make it so that people have to die and the hero might lose. Then the win is sweeter. So far, not enough consequences to the presence of Villains.
MCU needs to plan their use of big bads better. The Kang variants vould have each been a villain in different films by name. Rama Tut should have faced the Eternals in a period set film. Scarlet Centurion in Quantumania. Immortus in the Marvels. Could have had Majors doing the voices while an actor wearing a full mask could have done the body acting.
In the defense of Beast, it was likely a cost cutting measure, since they likely just didn’t want to go through the trouble of creating the fur suit for what amounts to a few minutes of acting in a mid-credits scene, which would have been time consuming to do.
@manuelalbertoromero9528 do you know what that means? I just said a company with less resources took that time and effort to do it, so what exactly is Disney's defense? "We couldn't be bothered"? That's what your point stands for. That isn't a defense lol

@@robsnow2099 to be fair, the leak is not high quality. So, if I were to see this at the theater, I'd probably have a different opinion. You are correct about Pip, though. What the hell was that?
Please explain to me how Darban is "dollar store Ronin"? Ronin was a henchman for Thanos. Darban is clearly out for revenge against Captain Marvel for destroying Hala. Hell she wasnt even one note!. She was negotiating with the Skrull to give them a chance to leave the planet until Marvel showed up and she took that as an act of war because of the past she has with Captain Marvel. Jeremys review is so off its troubling. Hes mad at Valkyrie for showing up!? Its 15 years into the MCU. The goal of a universe is acknowledging the people that exist and CAN help. Her showing up to offer refuge to displaced Skrull makes sense. Like, listening to Jeremy complain about wanting character development between Kamala and Carol and Monica........ do you really?
As I climb up the ladder in my line of work I realize more and more that the people who were in charge before me were way out of their depth and the job should have gone to someone else. I'm guessing that's a common theme everywhere including the MCU. To me it seems like the people overseeing these projects haven't got a clue on how to run a cinematic universe. Somewhere in the chain of command there's someone who is just faking it until they make it. This essentially falls back on the person who did the hiring/appointing. Because if you tell me we don't have the budget for something I'm gonna leave it out. I'm not going to force it. I will try to get the budget raised if it's necessary but the MCU right now feels like a great idea that just went to shit because the money didn't stretch out far enough.
Thanks for the review Jeremy as ever. We are too far down the road here, but in order for the MCU to get back to it's glory days and attract the masses (masses = moolah) they need to separate the TV series' from the movies.
I definitely agree this movie had some flaws both glaring and not. Despite all that I still had a lot of fun! I was able to follow the plot well enough and see how it links into the greater MCU. It would be hilarious if DCU comes out swinging and Marvel starts to emulate DC 💀 DC’s being run by a dude who loves comics - which gives me confidence.
Great combo moves in the fights though, Most teams maintain the individuality of it's members when they fight but here they really do flow into each other and act like a single unit which is a nice change of pace.
The AI ran everything in Kree society and when it was destroyed it created a huge power vacuum that led to civil war. The Kree destroyed their world in the war (which you would have to infer from the history on the MCU Kree basically having one mode of warfare which is genecide. That probably should have been emphasized more). I know it wasn’t spelled out in the most linear way but I honestly have no idea why no one seems to be able to follow those plot threads. It’s pretty much all there.
I thought the movie was fine, nothing crazy but I think people are overreacting with the whole "mcu is dying" thing. We literally just got the finale of Loki S2 and that show is one of the best things Marvel has produced, and we got Guardians 3 this year as well. I agree that phase 5 has been very messy, but at least Marvel has been taking a lot of risks since phase 4 started (more diverse heroes, special presentations). The biggest issue for me is definitely the amount of tv shows we've been getting, cause it makes it harder for us to fully digest one piece of content at a time. Apparently we're only getting Deadpool 3 and Echo next year so I'm glad Marvel is taking more time to cook, that's really all they gotta do to consistently make something enjoyable. Obviously the mcu will never feel the same as when we had the og 6 avengers and everything was building up to Thanos, but we were younger back then, and that was the first time we saw a cinematic universe culminate with such a massive crossover story.

If they were so eager to introduce mutants into the MCU, why not have Rogue be the "villain?" That would have been awesome!
i mean we are in the multiverse saga, you gotta expect multi verse stuff to happen

No one likes Captain Marvel alone
I agree with everything you said. 100% and I understood it too.
@sweeneagle16 I agree strongly with you, this another idea of a wonderful Captain Marvel movie we didn’t get.

The "Marvel is responsible for the sun dying' thing is explained as "she destroyed their leader and left a massive power vacuum in its place, which led to a massive civil war, and that civil war is what used up all of their air/water/sun power".
If unkilling a sun is as easy as a chick flying through it, the explanation of why it's dying should be equally trivial and incoherent

Thinking back was a lame way for Guardians director to insert Star Lord trying to have a dance off to stall Ronin.
Whether they come out pleased or not. It has been this way since movies was created...but I'm sure you were just born this generation and don't have a clue and just a follower. This movie was very good.
@@myfddreammany people are also extremely moronic. To enjoy this movie you would have to be about as simple as a 2 year old.

Yeah wow that’s so much better.. rich is the perfect worf

I feel like that's what they're planning to do for the next endgame but man its still so many years away

Cmon. We both know she was being petty ruining inhabited planets. It's even a point in the movie.
She was attacking planets and taken resources from where captain marvel interacted or lived in instead of going into abandoned or not populated planets. That's how much she hates her and that is why she is a villain

That Valkyrie sitcom analogy. 😂💀
Man I would love to see an MCU film where we bait and switch have the superhero whack the evil AI out of existence in the first 20 minutes and the movie's actually about the horrible consequences of doing that.
Sounds like most of infinitely war haha
@@AlishaAnn94Are run-on sentences valuable on your homeworld?
@@GeeksmithingPunctuation and paragraphs are overrated.
I’m not watching this movie, just like I won’t touch Love and Thunder. So I’ll gladly watch this.
At this point i don't think they need to cutback. I think they just need to stop all together for awhile and reboot, and figure out what kind of story they want to tell, because they clearly have no idea right now.
The biggest issues is the writers suck balls.
Can you imagine diluting the rollout of mutants and the X-men so much that there’s absolutely no excitement for them? Unreal!😂
One thing that is consistent in all these reviews is everyone keeps forgetting the villain DarBenn and rightfully so.
I would have loved it if it was Reed Richards in a lab with her and him saying, "I should let Charles know about this". Giving us both the x-men and f4! lol

Brie Larson is pretty much a turd that won’t seem to flush. Yeesh
They don't have the good writers or directors to do that now. Most of them went away.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Spider-Man No Way Home and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever say hello!
Me too, I had fun. Ms. Marvel was fun with her family too and this just added to it
"I had fun, sue me" is my entire reaction to this movie. @@comp.lex4 yeah I agree, I enjoyed it. Not a great film but had a good couple of laughs

I was more entertained by Jeremy's review than the movie itself. As a old school Carol fan, thrown of the golden gate Bridge, Avengers Annual#10.I don't blame the actors or writers no, I blame the producers & executives at Marvel for letting these projects out the door.
Your reviews make more sense and what most of us feel
When they mentioned Captain Marvel was off "Saving other Planets" was always questionable to me when she has no idea how their geopolitics even function. Low and behold, she screwed up a whole civilization based on her personal bias against an A.I. system that runs it. I actually liked that plotline of this story. It was something that I've mentioned with her involvement in conflicts in other worlds. She'll pick a side and screw everything up for one civilization while being able to go back to her home planet Earth that has no involvement in the conflict if worse comes to worst.
When you put it like that, it kind of sounds like American foreign politics.
*worse comes to worst

I LOVE this point because hilariously, Fox has done it with less screentime, and this is DISNEY, they have no shortage of resources.

Like, listening to Jeremy complain about wanting character development between Kamala and Carol and Monica........ do you really?
nobody cares

Dar Bahn literally said in her dialogue "The civil war fucked up my planet so I'm glad we can sign this peace treaty."
