      That's great to hear, Gee. They sell loads of Porsches, and pride themselves on their service and realistic prices. We're not affiliated with them in any way, but you can't help but be impressed with what they have achieved.

    My 991.1 S2 PDK had to go in repairs after an accident. I got a brand new 992 Gts PDK for a few months. Whilst it was fast I just couldn’t get on with it. There was no connection to the car and engine and I could barely hear any engine noise! When I finally got my car back….oh boy I was smiling and at that point I knew I could only ever change for a naturally aspirated upgrade!

      I agree - I've also got a 991.1 C2S (with the sports exhaust) and if I could have afforded a GTS - I would have bought one without hesitation! Oh and the alcantara wheel can be cleaned with a specialist solution (a bit like carpet cleaner).

    Great review! For all the reasons you cite, I traded from my 458 for a Speedster and while I miss the sound of that amazing flat plane crank V8 there are so many more things I love about the Porsche - that perfect short throw manual makes all the difference in a great driving experience.

    Bought a near new lava orange 991.2 GTS last August, replacing my Aston Martin V8 Vantage S, which in turn replaced a V8 Vantage. I besotted. It's such an incredible car. Jason, yes, yes, yes, great review! I've been saying for a while that the 15' 2WD GTS will become a classic and that you guys need to add one to your stable! I absolutely love mine, changed to FabSpeed sports headers which makes it sound amazing and had a custom carbon steering wheel done by Vivid Racing which totally transforms the look of the cabin. Buy it!!! :)

    I agree that this car will become a future classic. Jason, as well as others, makes the point that it has an intoxicating sound track that is lost in the turbos. Everybody knows the benefits of turbos but the engagement that you get with a manual NA car cannot be replaced simply by more torque and speed. In 20 years, when EV's are much more common, it is cars like this that will attract real petrol heads.

  • @astonmartinvee8

    Very good choice if you can get the right price. For a used one a well specified 991.1 Carerra 2S can give almost the same driving experience without the widebody and extra power and should be much cheaper. I have a C2S with PDK, PASM, Sport Chrono and they drive very similar. I recently looked at buying a GTS but the cost to change from the C2S wasn't worth it. I will definitely look at one of these next time round.

    Thanks. GTS models always have to work extra hard because the next generation isn’t going be far off. Porsche have to walk a fine line between truly great cars and parts-bin specials. This one looks as though it’s well on the right side of that line.

    I know this is an older video, but- Good review, like the channel! I subbed. I’ve been looking for a used GTS to pick up. Here lies the problem: I believe every car TH-camr has stated (many times) this car is a good value, and “ticks the performance options for less money”. I am here to say, this simply isn’t true, partly because of all the high praise it gets, I believe. This car is not a value used, it is highly sought after, and production #’s are much lower than Carrera S models. So in reality, i can get a used Carrera “S” with most or almost all of the GTS options for less money than an actual GTS with lower miles. So this value option is only true if you buy new, and the dealer doesn’t mark up the order or car your buying. People are going to blast me for this, and it’s Ok, 911’s are massively overpriced in the last couple years, especially the used ones. I’m actually trying to find a used one that is 991.1, and they are either beat up and abused, or just simply waaaaaay too much money for what they are. I know the 911 is a classic, and a great car overall, but there simply is too many other “fast” car options now that are not only faster, but less money. Will they hold their value as well? Probably not, but unless your buying a GT3 used or new, these cars are not good investments, they will still loose money and depreciate, but because people are treating them that way, nobody that owns them is actually driving them, they garage queen them to a life of short weekend drives to cars for coffee, which honestly is a travesty. I guess the biggest thing that bothers me is that cost of entry into the 911 club is so expensive now you have to choose between sending one of your kids to college or having a car. Or your just simply so rich you can do both, and chances are your not a car guy then, your just a super rich guy who will buy a 911 and not know the real difference between it and a C8 Corvette, something many of my friends are telling me I should buy instead. Porsches are not cheap, never have been, i get that, but when did they become the car for the “super” rich only, not for the guy who does “well” but has to be smart with money. It’s a real bummer, honestly. I guess if I found out I had like 5 years to live, I’d probably buy one anyway, but how else is it justified? I would certainly end up divorced, then I guess I’d need the car to go on dates 😂

      As an a 991.1 GTS PDK owner, I fully understand your point of view. I bough mine a year ago, same as in the video, and price higher by 15k than 3 years ago. I was fully aware about this, obvioulsy not happy with this trend, but fuck, we have only one life. My kids have the proper size for the moment to fit on rear seats. Buy a nice exemplar with low kms and proper config, and you will see back most of your money when you will sale it. Last NA with terrible sound, only 2 years of production, wide body, superb wheels, exclusive carmin red paint, GTS carbon interior,.. so all goods points to keep his value. This is not a risky buy. And what a pleasure, sound, accuracy, look, really feeling to drive a special car... No turbo hence also better reliability. In a close future, we even don't know if we will still be allowed to use it, so enjoy now! Otherwise, if you don't have the money, you have cheaper very good options like AMGs, Jag F type, Lotus, Corvette....

    In addition to Jason's comments the 991.1 X51 powerkit that comes in the GTS is the most extensive on ever offered. It includes unique port and polished head, cam and intake manifold. Interesting read below if you want technical details. Much more extensive than the 991.2 power kit that is minor turbo part change.

      TheCarGuys.TV just been for a drive in a silver 991 GTS - but a later turbo version. Contrast stitching was a little more demure but the cabin is indeed a very desirable place to be. As for the torque! Low down linear grunt was so good you forget it’s a turbo, sport mode delivers added aural pleasure with a few burbles and pops. What a brilliant machine. Bang on review Jason.

    Useful review as the GTS appears to be a more livable solution when comparing it to the GT3 Touring or Carrera T - particularly with a manual transmission.
    Would appreciate your thoughts on the GT3 T’s box v the GTS 7speed.

    My car (991.1 C4 GTS in Carmine Red) is almost identical to this car. Drove it back to back with a 991.2 GTS - of the two, mine was the car which made me laugh out loud.
    Gen 2 car faster, no doubt. But what's important is how the car makes you FEEL. My car won that contest hands down.
    The naturally aspirated flat 6 (430ps) is a masterpiece. Absolutely intoxicating once you go past 4500 / 5000 rpm and just gets better and better to the red line. Addictive! Like a racing car.
    Everyone wants a manual - but they are like rocking-horse sh**. PDK is a perfectly acceptable compromise

  • @Mastermindthreethousand
    @Mastermindthreethousand 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Steel brakes have the same stopping power as carbon ceramics. The difference is that the steel brakes fade faster when used intensely repeatedly, really noticeable on track. Weight is a second factor, but much less noticeable. For daily use, steel brakes, especially if they are Porsche brakes, are just fine. A third argument is the look of the car changes for the better or worse depending on the trim you select for it.

      991.2 GTS combines elements of the 991.1GTS and the Carrera T with even more torque low down - acceleration in day to day driving even more accessible (provided you are above 2,500 rpm!). Perhaps best of both worlds?

    • @rottingrat
      @rottingrat 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hankhoh So it would seem on paper But, drive them both and it’s the 991.1’s naturally aspirated screaming engine that’s going to get you far more excited than a bit of extra torque. I’ve had both; 991.2 got sold after 12 months. 991.1 had for over 4 years and I’m never going to so sell.

    The GTS is a lovely car. The funny thing about the 911 configurator is that it's easy to upsell yourself in to one of these once you starting adding options to the Carrera. You may as well go GTS for the money.

      @@TheCarGuysTV Yes. Carmine red or Karminrot in German. Like it better than Guards red which in my opinion is a bit too bright and flashy. For me Carmine red somehow adds depth and character to a Porsche more than most other colors available. And if you spec the rest of the car right together with that color option you get a very attractive yet sophisticated car. Maybe for you to consider if you ever decide to buy another new Porsche.

But I think I'll look for a c4gts pdk, 991.1 (even though he ends saying manual and 2wd).. a 991.1 turbo is the same price though.. Both used.. Even a Gt3 991.1 isn't much off.. Tough choice.. For daily a Gt3 is tough.. Turbo fast, gts is na and sounds amazing
