  • Hey everyone,
    On todays episode of Adventure Prone we're installing a new intercooler on the Nav. The intercooler was sourced from Forefront industries and although it took a while to get my hands on one it has so far been well worth the wait.
    The forefront Industries intercooler features a fully welded tank, doing away with the factory crimped style intercooler and has a much thicker core (80mm from memory) than the factory piece. The kit comes with all of the piping and hose clamps needed for installation and would only take about an hour to install uninterrupted.
    The kit cost me $519 AUD from memory and is the cheapest intercooler option for the YD25 D22 that doesn't come from an overseas EBay seller. Other alternatives include the HPD intercooler kit and the ARE cooling kit which price up to over a thousand dollars (AUD).
    After installing the intercooler and driving around for a few months, I can say for certain that there have been some noticeable differences in the performance of the car. My temps sit lower even on longer steeper hauls and the Nav feels a little more torque-ish particularly on up hills. I would've loved to have gotten some before and after dyno results but unfortunately that didn't happen.
    All in all I feel very happy with the product, I feel its appropriately priced and is good value for money, although this is if you can manage to get your hands on one to begin with as they are out of stock more often than not and don't last long when stock does arrive. I bought one and installed it myself. Easy job. I also cleaned up some soot from internal housing whilst the hoses were off.

    Hey mate, do you have to have a catch can when installing these, or can I replace mine without a catch can

    Hey there I was wondering if you noticed any difference in performance after fitting the new intercooler, I'm looking at fitting the same brand intercooler to mine.

      Hey Jarrad, I do feel theres been a performance benefit from the new intercooler, certainly a bit more oomff up hills. I wish i couldve had a before and after on a dyno but unfortunately i couldnt make that happen. The core is thicker and welded on end and so far I've been stocked with it. It may not be the "best" performance intercooler on the market but its a much cheaper alternative than some of the 1200 dollar setups around and i feel it still delivered better performance than the stock setup. Hope that helps!

    Do you have to drain the oil out of the engine before replacing the intercooler

    What intercooler hoses size and brand name?

    • @ap4x4
      @ap4x4  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure about the sizes but they're a D22 specific hose kit from Samco 👍

    I keep blowing up my upper control arm bushings.any knowledge of a good product?

      @ap4x4  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey mate, I've actually recently changed to Blackhawk (Roadsafe) UCAs so I"m not sure what you should use to replace them. Any idea why they're wearing so quick?

    • @quickfixstudiomobilegaming9127
      @quickfixstudiomobilegaming9127 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe because I use my torsion bars as my temporary lift not maxed but still additional stress to the upper arms.also went on a 4x4 trip that got us stuck a few times while being pulled out pressure to the tires.besides my hubs blowing these bushings again I'm always impressed with this truck.

    Forefront Intercoolers are great, and the pipe replacement is good too. But it you drive a Triton Diesel you will notice after you replace the small rubber Turbo to intercooler hose that you will hear a distinct pinging noise. It does not sound like tappet noise or exhaust leak, it sounds like someone tapping an aluminum pipe.
    If you remove the aluminum pipe & put the rubber one back on the noise goes away. I have gotten used to it & don't worry about it.

      That's odd! I guess just like a stainless snorkel, the metal is more resonant than plastic or rubber so you get a lot more noise from them. Kind of nervous to upgrade my snorkel to stainless, my Navs already noisy enough inside the cab!

      Soundproof the cab! Or at least at your footwell makes a huge difference.

    Do a airbox installation

    • @ap4x4
      @ap4x4  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey mate! I've been looking around at airboxes for the 22s but cant find much. Jmacx do a nice looking box but doesn't plumb to the factory snorkel so am tossing up whether I should get a staino snorkel from them or just do the box and work out a way to plumb it. If you know any other places I could get one that'd go with the factory snorkel I'd love to know!
