D22 Speaker Installation

  • Installing speakers into the rear doors and replacing the front speakers of my 2005 d22 navara. I used Kenwood KFC-S1666 2-way speakers and paired with an alpine CDE-150e single din headunit with a 4x50w output.
    For people who want to get the best sound quality, I would encourage using sound deadening in the doors before spending loads on expensive speakers.
    For such a cheap and easy modification I would definitely suggest doing this. The rear speakers drastically improved the overall sound in the cab, giving a fuller effect to the music.
    Overall the install only cost just over $100 as I already had a sufficient head unit.

    So you’ve got 6.5s all around? I thought they were 6s up front from factory? Maybe I read wrong.

    • @ReubsModifications
      @ReubsModifications  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah 6.5s all round and I think the front ones I pulled out were 6.5 but weren’t the factory speakers

    So how did the rear speakers turn out? Are the muffled? Can we get a video that shows us what they sound like?, very much appreciated

    • @ReubsModifications
      @ReubsModifications  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t know if a video would really show how they sound but they turned out pretty good. Using the fader on the head unit I can tweak how much volume comes from the front and rear to where it sounds pretty good.
      I’d say if you’re really into your sound I’d invest in some sound deadening for the doors as they’re really rattly once you crank it up.

    Never liked messing with doors, they never seem to fit right after any fix / upgrade.

    • @ReubsModifications
      @ReubsModifications  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that’s understandable, it’s very easy to break the pins.

    • @ReubsModifications
      @ReubsModifications  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah they are kings and for what they cost I can’t fault them, they are universal but they still fit pretty good just have to tuck the straps in so they don’t get caught.

    Your vid was such a great help thanks! After threading wire to the back doors, how did you connect it to the head unit? I've got iso adaptor harness attachments in place so I'm not too sure which wires I should attach to? Any help would be appreciated 🙂

    • @ReubsModifications
      @ReubsModifications  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad it helped 👍🏻 I spliced into the harness, I didn’t have a diagram for which wires go to where so I played music through the speakers and touched wires to power the speakers and find which colours powered which speaker. When I was finished I looked up on TH-cam a sound tester and played it through the speakers to make sure I got the lefts and rights correct 👍🏻

    Do the rear windows hit the speakers when they're down? I've thought about fitting small rear speakers in my D22 but heard that's a problem.

    • @ReubsModifications
      @ReubsModifications  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine don’t but I bought shallow speakers, it is definitely something to look out for if you want to try and fit deep speakers there👍🏻

    If you care about sound, how about lining the rear speakers up with the actual grill....

    • @ReubsModifications
      @ReubsModifications  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wasn’t going to fit with the speaker size, the grills are put in from factory and are placed awkwardly halfway over the window support.

    Great Video. I haven't removed my front door trims as yet, I have changed the head unit and now would like to do the speakers. Do you think it's a save bet if I purchase 6.5" speakers? 2015 D22 “Now confirmed, fitted 6.5” vibe speakers”

    • @ReubsModifications
      @ReubsModifications  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m pretty sure the d22s are all the same so 6.5 should work as that’s what I used if not just make sure to hold onto your receipts so you can exchange them.
      I’d also take your time reading into the input and output ratings (RMS/OHMs) of your headunit and speakers and match them up. Good luck👍🏻

      @@ReubsModifications thanks for that. Yep I noticed in your Video you used 6.5”, I was at Supercheap today and they couldn’t tell me for sure that 6.5 or 6 would be correct. I will pull the trims tomorrow and take a look.

    I helped my son put rears in his D22. We got the oval shaped Kenwoods and put them where the useless ashtray goes they give much better sound as it is not blocked by the seat. Also the speaker wires were in the rear door loom just taped over, no need to run wires.
