I recently assembled an EGPU for my Legion Go. Having a handheld PC that youre able to dock and supercharge was my goal, and its pretty awesome IMO. Also, for handheld mode i highly recommend setting the resolution to 800p and enabling integer scaling via AMD Adrenaline. Tweaking Adrenaline settings (the GPU software) is a must to get the best performance out of the device. --> The secret weapon of most Legion Go users is the Lossless Scaling app that you can get on Steam. It has frame-gen and makes the fake frames look and feel extremely smooth. I do agree that if anyone is looking for a handheld gaming device and plan on playing untethered, the ROG Ally X or Steam Deck OLED is the way to go. I decided to go with the Legion Go because I wanted a handheld PC, not a handheld gaming device.
@@nighttilt what GPU and Egpu enclosure did you use? I've been thinking about doing this myself so that I can hook it up to my LG C2 without it looking horrible.
@mattwithoutfear Im using the TH3P4G3 dock with a fully modular PSU (to minimize the wires/clutter) with an rtx4060. I figured that the Nvidia bells and whistles (DLSS 3 w/frame-gen) would make up for the 20-23% performance loss (since the EGPU uses Thunderbolt instead of Oculink), and it performs really well! Also, there's a docking case available for the TH3P4G3 EGPU to make it look a lot more presentable.

I own Steam Deck limited edition oled, Rog Ally X, and the Legion Go. The Go is nice but it’s the only one I’m selling lol there’s just too many downsides compared to the others. That screen is damn beautiful though (for an ips)
I’m the opposite, I hope they keep the 7inch screen but focus on making the product smaller. It’s almost like they need 2 product lines, one to try and become as pocketable as possible and one to be the absolute best handheld experience with a bigger screen, grips, and more ergonomics
If the Legion Go has the same battery and the upgraded ram like the Ally X, the Legion Go is a big no brainer. Thats why Ally X is just the better choice. I sold my Steam Deck LCD for the Ally and then sold the Ally. I'm waiting for the next generation.
Bro just get you an Anker Prime 250w battery bank then you have no battery issues. I removed the controllers and only use my Go as a tablet with lots of accessories. The ROG Ally dock( yes it works with the Go) with a wolverine pro v3 controller is great but the best accessory ever is the Viture Pro XR glasses. Holy crap are they amazing! For sound the Steelseries Arctis gamebuds are amazing! You will need to update the firmware on them and purchase Dolby Atmos if you dont have it on your Go already but once thats done, I've never heard such good sound coming out of earbuds in my life. I bought the Corsair Virtuoso Max headset for home use. They cant even come close the these Steelseries gamebuds so I returned the headset and saved $300 lol. I own like 6 pairs of premium earbuds. The steelseries buds are the best by far. I also carry around a razer mouse and keyboard. I love my Go and cant wait until the Go 2 comes out. If it gets near a 20% boost in performance itll be a day 1 pre order for me. Im also hoping for a Legion Go specific eGPU docking station to be released. Please do this Lenovo a lot of us would purchase one for docking performance at home. Im to lazy to figure out how to build my own and none of the other ones are plug and play.

turn your power profile to custom and turn all the tdp settings to max. Also go into the bios and turn up the vram from 3g to auto or higher than 3g. you will get much better performance. But you might want to be plugged in.
Great vid, I had to send mine back the battery life is actually a big turn off an got the ally x instead and actually prefer it more especially with the better battery.
I have to say this is not the handheld for you if you want minimal and light aspects in setup and portability. Recently, It took me legit hours across several days so I could setup windows/LegionSpace/other software and find accessories that make this more useful. For doing the main thing of unplugged gaming I still needed comfort grips and a slim, yet big enough battery pack to fit the pocket, so yeah pretty much still plugged in lol. Long story short, I also ended up manually installing newest amd 780m drivers and a simple gaming profile of just afmf2 frame gen paired with anti lag, has helped with smooth gaming. Once setup its all manageable and I really dig the display enough to deal with usually being plugged in some sort of way. Manage your temps and keep fan below 5.4k rpm if you can and its quieter than even the AC in your home. btw my longest battery life browsing and watching videos was just barely over 5.5 hours unplugged. Limited to Lighter workloads and it will game long enough for light sessions or be used as a windows tablet for a medium length session.
Also I did get it used and bundled with a onexgpu egpu for less than the ROG ally x new. I'm also gonna share my setup if anyone is interested in using this thing for laptopy things like docking on the go. I got foldable protoarc keyboard/mouse, one of the slimmest options. I got a pretty small jsaux dock which adds all the ports I could need and let me conveniently dock to any display so I always bring that. A Rii mini keyboard(bluetooth) with 3d printed piece I bought let me combine the controllers and altogether was great way to dock and still navigate windows or game from even a tv/couch. I can choose how much I wanna pack. If I gotta pack it all, then it takes up as much space a laptop would with a laptop bag in a sleeve and additional pouch, excluding the battery. yeah batteries always kinda gotta come with if you want more than an hour and a half "unplugged" gaming. If the plan is the "unplugged" option, I just pocket a battery and bring the legion go around in whatever fits(just detach controllers if too long). Baseus 65w battery is a good capacity and comfy in the pocket. also find a flat ribbon magnetic usb c cable, it rolls up compact to fit pocket easy too. maybe if I played indie games then I wouldnt find an issue with battery life but thats just me.
The problem with the steam deck and other handhelds is that its not quite powerful enough to run pc games at 1080p+ yes the chip inside is almost as powerful as the ps5 but the ps5 is optimized some games arent for the legion go because the legion go runs windows and most of the ppl that use windows have a 4060 in their build which is way more powerful than a z1 extreme you need to like tweak it a little and optimize it so it can run 1080p at 60fps which for a 800$ console i’d rather get a ps5 with a 1440p monitor
100% Agree, the boggest downside for me is the battery. Its beautiful, the display is great, bit the battery draws me out of using it 😭 I wish it was better with battery. The second thing I dont like as mich is the controllers dont really feel sturdy wish also makes me feel scared to constantly take them off die to damaging the clips that hold the controllers.
When I bought mine it was near release of the device. Perhaps they adressed this? I do not remove them much, personally I can use a third party controller and do the same 😂 I love the device overall bit battery is my biggest gripe.
Can anyone tell me if this is able to connect keyboard and mouse to as I mainly play strategy games. And really interested in getting one for traveling
I had the SD then the Go at launch… I had the wobbly controller issue with the sorted no issue… I still returned it and got the Ally. The Ally sounds better and plays better handheld but I miss the screen on the Lenovo but the gpu just can’t drive it enough.
It's not big, the others are small but I have big hands and like big screens. Ally x has no track pad small screen to small for me you cant remove the controller one controller you can use can Mouse. The picture is more beautiful it look close to oled and being not oled

it's very sad, that nowadays people with technical cretinism like you honestly think that they are experts and have right to make reviews and advice something.
No one mentions how obnoxiously loud and high-pitched the fan is, even on a custom profile. If you are not a hermit and plan to use this around other people or in public, everyone is going to hate you. The tape mod and updated shroud barely do anything to fix this.
...I love fan noise ha
Just happy it wasn’t super audible on my video lol

@@andrewsmyth1641 I guarantee it’s not
@@daggerluke put it on full it's fine, I guess it depends on your idea of what's loud
If you had to choose between the legion and the SD Oled which would u choose?
SteamDeck OLED and Ally X are tied for me (but very different devices)
I’d choose either over the Legion Go personally
@nighttilt cheers!

....LEGION GO by far out performs the Rog ally...but I love my Ally too.
Yer off yer rocker mate, in what way??
@TechSpaceCowboy let's start 144 fps 1440 p screen vs 1080p. By far plays better when trying to upscale games tried to playing games like black ops 6,delta force, apex,...it runs the game better...I have both including the steamdeck and again by far Legion Go..also has detachable joy cons so if your thumbs ticks go out on tye ally you have to open it all tye way up vs legion juat order new one...also the built in mouse in tye controller joy con is genius.....I mean the ally is nice in that it's more affordable...but that's about it...oh and to answer your other question this rocker is Rocking just fine, you, ain't got to be Bolox over the fact it's better its still a good device juat not better than the legion go.
I own Steam Deck limited edition oled, Rog Ally X, and the Legion Go. The Go is nice but it’s the only one I’m selling lol there’s just too many downsides compared to the others. That screen is damn beautiful though (for an ips)
100% this
I like this screen more then the Oled steam deck
Same
What’s up with all the blisters on your hands?
Had to beat up this guy at Bestbuy that said Tears of the Kingdom was mid.
I’m curious about this device, but unfortunately I don’t have the funds to purchase it right now😢
I’d save and wait for a future generation
Is this better than the Ally Rog Z1 Extreme?
Yes, but not the X
In my opinion
I have the ally x and while I like it my old eyes are not keen it’s it’s smaller screen. I hope the next ally comes with a larger display
Couldn’t quite follow that, but no, this has less RAM and less physical battery than the Ally X
I’m just gonna wait for the S I think
This thing is so cool it almost made me switch
My country for the legion go ryzen z1 extreme is around 1000 bucks.... Is it worth it to get the normal ryzen z1?.... The normal cost around 600 bucks... Thinking of getting the normal cause it is much cheaper...
Not worth getting normal z1. It’s way weaker
They are all going to be like that batteries won’t last games take a huge hit on battery life. External power block helps a lot and I love mine

turn your power profile to custom and turn all the tdp settings to max. Also go into the bios and turn up the vram from 3g to auto or higher than 3g. you will get much better performance. But you might want to be plugged in.
“You might want to be plugged in”
That’s what she said
@TechSpaceCowboy 😂
Can I connect Bluetooth headphones to it?
Yep!
Great vid, I had to send mine back the battery life is actually a big turn off an got the ally x instead and actually prefer it more especially with the better battery.
Yeah, hoping next gen all the companies realize you need an 80-100wh battery
Yep
One thing to do with legion go.. get a screen protector and a case asap
Can’t imagine adding a case to this thing
My issue is the audio and the terrible bottlem edges of the device pretty much unplayable in bed cause its uncomfortable
Yeah it’s a lot for bed
Buy a small pillow, put it on your belly and then put the LeGo with kickstand on top of it. It's game changer, trust me ;)

Can I play dota2 in that lenovo go????
I don’t see why not
The problem with the steam deck and other handhelds is that its not quite powerful enough to run pc games at 1080p+ yes the chip inside is almost as powerful as the ps5 but the ps5 is optimized some games arent for the legion go because the legion go runs windows and most of the ppl that use windows have a 4060 in their build which is way more powerful than a z1 extreme you need to like tweak it a little and optimize it so it can run 1080p at 60fps which for a 800$ console i’d rather get a ps5 with a 1440p monitor
I don’t think it’s almost as powerful as a PS5. PS4 is the benchmark I’ve heard
I love mines, only issue ive had is running Mafia 3 on it, crashes every time, even at lower settings.
Every other game runs fine.
Noice
100% Agree, the boggest downside for me is the battery. Its beautiful, the display is great, bit the battery draws me out of using it 😭 I wish it was better with battery. The second thing I dont like as mich is the controllers dont really feel sturdy wish also makes me feel scared to constantly take them off die to damaging the clips that hold the controllers.
Hmm, felt tight to me. Do you remove them a lot?
When I bought mine it was near release of the device. Perhaps they adressed this? I do not remove them much, personally I can use a third party controller and do the same 😂 I love the device overall bit battery is my biggest gripe.
Can anyone tell me if this is able to connect keyboard and mouse to as I mainly play strategy games. And really interested in getting one for traveling
Yep absolutely
Switch to the amd drivers ull be alot more happier
If only happiness were that simple
I had the SD then the Go at launch… I had the wobbly controller issue with the sorted no issue… I still returned it and got the Ally.
The Ally sounds better and plays better handheld but I miss the screen on the Lenovo but the gpu just can’t drive it enough.
Legion go is almost perfect except 2 things
1. Battery
2. Speaker sound.
I sorta agree
I can read your fingerprints from all the way here on that screen bro😂😂😂😂
I’ve been compromised

Lmao! They have a long way to go before I’ll be okay with that lol
How can I use docked mode
Dock it
@but the layout won’t change
What is 144 hertz
The screen refreshes 144 times per second
It's not big, the others are small but I have big hands and like big screens. Ally x has no track pad small screen to small for me you cant remove the controller one controller you can use can Mouse. The picture is more beautiful it look close to oled and being not oled

I mean sure but battery life and screen size on those is 0/10
Dude, you need to learn the device before reviewing it. You made no mention of RSR, integer scaling, frame generation, or any of the features that really put the Go on a different level. You literally just ran Rocket League at 800p with your screen set to 60Hz.....
Dude, you need to review the device before critiquing the review.
@TechSpaceCowboy I have a real job. I'm not making a review. Don't get offended, I'm not the only one telling you this 🤷🏾♂️
Sadly it is just too difficult for most of reviewers to handle all features of modern technologies, they just can't tinkering the device. They have techical cretinism and only can use gadgets like it is ps5 or nintendo switch: press button and play. And that's ok, to each his own, BUT with this approach they just mislead other more advanced users ;(
I have LeGo and Steam Deck as well, and with correct settings (RSR, AFMF2) Legion simply destroys the Deck, it is just another league
Major downside, Lenovo support. The driver is 8 months old unless you sideload :(
:/
critical or not, if all windows devices are the same why bother it would be garbage like the current laptop market. They needed somehow to differentiate themselves from Asus.
The snapdragon laptops are dope tho
It is 1600p. Not 1440
I explained this. 16: 10 vs 16:9

Yeah, they should switch to 80wh like the ROG Ally X
LOLI can look past the battery life. 2 hours enough if I want more i pug in for nonstop or you get Portable PC power bank.

The fact that you made this in the last quarter of 2024 when this handheld PC came out a year ago and did no research on how to properly configure the system is frustrating. Your settings are all wrong and you make no mention on changing the bios, setting the it to performance mode what that would mean for.your battery if you have it in that mode without wall power. This just seems like an unfair or inexperienced review. Yes the legion go has it's short falls as does all handhelds in this time. But anyone switching from concole to PC should be aware ( as a review you should inform them) there will be indepth config changes you will need to do to have an optimized product. Do fair reviews please or at least state you do not have the level on computer knowledge to accurately review these products as they stand today.
Nah I do what I want
But why Windows? That's just idiotic.
Tis where all the games are still. Takes a long time for an industry to change unfortunately
