Whats really scary is that engine sounds like its got another 3,000 RPM in it! The thought of a modern GT3 engine at 4.0L reving to 12,000rpm is just otherworldly!
lol it's because it's just a constant one-tone noise without any drama or sensation when RPM's are rising. Now the truly great sound would be when you think it's already a time to shift, but engine still have 3000 RPM more of audial experience.
It may actually be capable of 12,000 rpm for short amounts of time. Obviously it's limited in order to prolog the life of the engine. But yeah I hear it too.

I was visiting Weissach (Porsche Test Track near Stuttgart is located there) for Work last year. And i was Standing all the way in The city center of Weissach in front of the shops and I heard them just ripping it with a racecar up there. Now i wonder if I might have heard this. I Remember standing there in awe over the Sound. Porsche ist just the holy grail.
Don't think I'll ever be able to afford a Porsche but this brings tears to my eyes. Mainly because Porsche build incredible machines, and also that I won't be able to afford them.
I have fond memories of the classic NFS Porsche game, where it effectively portrayed the brand's history. As a result, I've developed a positive view of Porsche over the years. Also, it seems like they usually have a good understanding of their craft and a respect for their user base. Whether under the ownership of Volkswagen or any other entity, Porsche consistently demonstrates a commitment to pursuing their ideas with enthusiasm.
From my understanding too, similar to the creation of the LFA, Porsche brought in actual sound engineers because they understand that the audio component is equally as important as the feeling of their cars. I love that attention to detail. Should specify I mean their consumer cars too :D
Beautifully done. This beauty belongs in Le Mans and Daytona. Flat six has the distinctive sound that no other engines can emulate. It's in a class of its own.
I remember testing the 991.2 RSR GTE in 2018 at Monza. It was like pure, unbridled evil. After several years of auditory boredom at the 24 Hours of LeMans, the devil entered the scene. It was something out of this world. I've always been a big fan of the Vette's sound on the Straight des Hunaudières, but when the 991 passed, all hell broke loose. It was like a 787B again.
I use to be a Lamborghini and Ferrari fan as a kid. Once I learned about Porsche existence, Ive been a fan ever since! You just can compare the craftmanship, the detail, the way it is presented, its just a work of art that can be driven on the street. It still has class but doesn't try to be out there. The noise....well we all love it! That alone is worthy of its name.

@@rudy_dstroys1821 well yea, there is a lot more to it, but the weight distribution is factually the main difference between a porsche and other cars. with the rear engine layout, the pivot point is further back so it is less prone to understeer and causes the car to be more precise under load. i mean, a V-ROD harley davidson motorcycle was co-designed by porsche, but it is not a whole lot different than other bikes... except the rolling burnout capability and the rev range hahaha

And since then, have always had a Porsche. It stirs the soul, and I can’t imagine 9400 rpm!! My fastest today only goes 182 mph with a 7400 rpm redline. It’s truly built for the autobahn.
Mechanically and technically, there is nothing stopping them from making engines spin to 10k, 11k, 12k, etc. EXCEPT... you must keep in mind that fuel octane will be race only, cost of materials (titanium rods ain't cheap), and frequent service.
Definitely possible on regular petrol. sportsbikes rev up to 16k+ rpm on pump gas. Its just a factor of engine design. ie. oversquare vs undersquare contributing to piston speed at given rpms. And where you want the torque/horsepower to be made in the rev range.

This year I went for the very first time to a Formula 1 weekend. It was the Spa race of 2023. This was my experience on the first training day. Formula 3 training, the sound was scary loud and I measured around 103dB on my watch sitting way in the back on the Eau Rouge grandstand. Formula 2 training, was not very loud. Formula 1 training, was not very loud. Porsche Cup training, ALL HELL broke loose. I measured 108dB on my watch. 😱😱😱
