    In the early 2000's, Ole used to come in pretty much daily to eat lunch at Ryan's Steakhouse in Seneca, SC. He stood out wearing those old coaches short shorts with a t shirt and it would be 20 degrees outside. A friend of mine and me spoke to him one day and from that day on if we came in to eat and he was there, he would wave us over to his table, or either come to our table on his way out and speak with us. He was always FIRST CLASS to us and others that recognized him.

    I think I once met Ole in a Wal-Mart. I was about 10 or 11, and I didn’t have much knowledge of Wrestling before 2002 because that’s when I was born. I knew who the 4 horsemen were though. Ole was in front of us in the checkout line, and I guess I must’ve thought he was ARN Anderson because I told him “Has anyone ever told you, you look like Arn Anderson?” He replies with a chuckle and said “ I could beat Arn Anderson’s Ass” and went about his day.

He used to take us out to Little Ceasars or the dollar movies once every couple months. He was always on the road. But going to Dairy Queen was unreal! He never approved of eating sweets. We all love our dad but he was the same person in life as he was on tv. Still though, a really great dad!!!!

      It's amazing that you saw this video and remembered that moment from years ago. Ole has passed away now, and you lost a loving father and we all lost a legend. But we are so glad he did the things he did when he was with us, even if he was his uniquely grumpy self. Its what made him who he was and we needed someone like him. He stopped by about hour and a half prior to GCW house show. I believe that it was '85 and everyone was just surrounding the whole building. And he's just sitting there eating his dinner, undistracted and quiet. I'm sure that he was already booking and road agent working. He was a down to earth type of guy but you still didn't want to disturb him while enjoying his quarter pounder combo.✋😃🍟

    Ole was one of those old-timers that basically didn't give a $h!t about anything or anyone, one of the best heels to ever lace up a pair of boots and always gave it his best no matter who he was against whether it was tag or singles, as Jim has mentioned many times, Ole was one of the best promo guys of the 80's, and I saw the famous footage of July 1980 when Ole turned on Dusty in the cage against The Assassins, that crowd there went INSANE and pretty much caused a riot, probably the famous riot that lives on in people's minds in professional wrestling lore. Also, people have said that Ole wasn't the sweetest guy in the world, but the way Ole was described from the gentleman that met him I guess was one of those rare instances. Ole had the intimidation factor that he had just by the look in his eyes. One more thing, Ole had every right to be pissed when Vince bought out his territory, and Vince and Linda both asked him if he wanted a job, Ole told them "go f*ck yourself".

    He was born angry and passed of cause of his father. Bar owner and completely an old school child rearing dad, he showed me when I was 8 , just how much he hated his life as a professional wrestler. He grew up with no family that cared and he did the same. Ole cared for his family and did so by showing it. Believe me, I know . ❤

    About ten years ago I went to a wrestling show that was featuring some legends at a meet and greet. I walked down the line getting my autographs and came to Ole.
    I said hello, and he asked if we knew each other. I said no. He then offered me a seat and we sat and talked for a good 30 min. The thing with Ole that ppl misconstrue as mean is Ole is honest. If you aren't sure you wanna hear his answer then dont ask the question.

    Never thought about that. If a heel and face riding together exposes the business. Doesn't a heel acting nice Or a face being a asshole. Do so as well. On a admittedly smaller scale.

    • @maddogmarc
      @maddogmarc 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Since kayfabe died it doesn't really matter anymore. Everyone knows it's a work now. But, back in the 80s it would've been bad for the business. However, there was no internet so the it's not like a little kid in Woodstock, GA was going to create huge waves or destroy Ole's career. All he could do was tell his friends at school. The info probably wouldn't go much further than that.

    • @tomr3422
      @tomr3422 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really. I met a heal when I was 8 (he was the top of the card at the time)years old he was very nice never broke kayfabe, went out of his way to entertain me for almost an hour. That was what made me a fan not just the kid that went to the show with grandma.

    • @TheeCoachg
      @TheeCoachg 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A heel being “nice” to kid can actually help more than harm. Kayfabe was built on leaving an emotional impression on the naive. Those guys were always working,making a kid believe enough to buy was their only job.
