    First story easy: Just make the prize, instead of cash, be a donation to the shelter in the winner's name. Then everyone can have fun and she has no reason to spoil it.

    • @SteviiLove
      @SteviiLove ปีที่แล้ว +156

      This is the easiest solution where everyone that deserves to win, does.
      Most of the people competing share the same goal of raising funds for a shelter in need that has given them their pups so by changing the rules, everyone but poodle lady gets what they want and I feel like the hOA won't want to go against a charity that could give them fantastic PR.

    • @dracko158
      @dracko158 ปีที่แล้ว +139

      If that happens, the woman would probably go ballistic about how dare they make the price not cash. This shows her true colors and is simply using her dog for easy money.

      NONONO the winner gets a prize made by the HOA's kids the runner-up gets a cash prize
      Way more of a middle finger to the poddle lady

    Dog Olympics solution: no one dog can win more than one or two events. She can continue to compete but she is disqualified from winning once she's hit her quota

    • @SteviiLove
      @SteviiLove ปีที่แล้ว +111

      Or that competition doesn't win the cash, instead all cash won is donated in the winners names to a shelter of their choice if they don't want to support the one OP and everyone else has been. Give ribbons to the dogs and their humans and cash to shelters. Everyone wins.

    • @comostella88
      @comostella88 ปีที่แล้ว +54

      i think disqualifying the win still ruins the feeling of getting 1st place. They should limit dogs per event. like one family can only enter 2 events at maximum.

    • @2to5Raccoons
      @2to5Raccoons ปีที่แล้ว +32

      @@comostella88 my only worry is that there aren't enough dogs for that. You might have to cut entire events or have only two dogs in each. Maybe a better way to do it would be: you can compete in the events until you've hit your quota of wins and then you have to sit out of the rest of the competition.
      It's had to figure out how to keep it fun but fair when people aren't playing fairly

    Poodle owner here. My dogs and I compete in various dog sports. When I see competitive handlers/trainers at local fun events, it’s always been as the demonstration team, guest judge, giving a performance, or a combination of those. I’m horrified a competitive handler would crash an event like that and then throw a tantrum when asked not to crash the party again.
    As a side note, in dog sports, they have a system to prevent things like this. There are levels for owners handling their own dogs, Jr Handlers (Kids & Teens), and professional handlers. Once someone competes in the pro level, they can’t go back to the other levels.

    • @RBrown-uk4xt
      @RBrown-uk4xt ปีที่แล้ว +24

      The pro / amateur division is common in all kinds of competitions. The fact that the HOA board ignored this, tells me that they are either clueless, or might have some kind of relationship / deal with the trainer.

      I also handle sport dogs and it kinda wasn’t fair to exclude them the way they did. It’s clear they didn’t talk at all to the poodle owner and knowingly let a professional handler and dog enter. It’s not really the handlers fault here that they were let to enter then had unfair rules set in motion to exclude them. It sounds beyond misleading to call it the dog Olympics, offer cash prizes, and then get upset when competitive dogs compete in a small event called the dog OLYMPICS and get mad at them when they keep the cash prizes they’re told they can keep.
      You’re making a really harsh judgement to another dog owner who was clearly mislead, and excluded against privately rather than them having an adult conversation and talking to the dogs owner. They opted to do it in a really immature manner, and while I don’t think the poodles owner should’ve tried entering next year, but I would two if my neighbors were behaving so childishly
      They could’ve put in the effort to have an adult conversation or the effort to train their dogs, instead they avoided any text messages and confrontation and decided to keep the event exclusive to everyone they like. I may be misunderstanding here, but not once did the OP even TALK to the poodle owner, followed their ig, and let them enter knowing the situation and decided to exclude them the next year for no reason and avoided an adult convo about it. I don’t see how you can blame them here? I blame them for pushing the issue, but not for how the neighborhood treated them.

      Well they banned a childrens book because the authors last name was "Gay". Those people who judge books do not do proper research. They just look at the books, filter them for buzzwords and then ban them without ever reading them.
      Back when Twilight was the trend among teenagers my class deceided to have the first book as a class book for that year. As i was attending a catholic all girls school run by nuns they we're all very concerned we kids wanted to read a "horror book" because they heard Vampire and thought it was horror. Well, Sister Claudia read it and became a huge fan and we were allowed to read it. The later years also had less strict rules about what books should be read in class. The classes before us usually had to read teen books from the 80s which were so out of touch with recent time and often had horrible messages like the one were a girl dates her little brothers bully to get revenge on him only to realize he was "not so bad after all" and falls in love for real. Or the one were the girl dates the guy who killed her pet rabbit and ate it only to realize he is not so bad after all and falls in love for real. We also had to read one classic literature book and well i hate Schiller since then. Had to read every sentence like 5 times.

So for 22/hr at 9.5 hours 3 days a week for 50 weeks (lower end for holidays or vacation) for 2 years (22 * 9.5 * 3 * 50 * 2) = 62,700 with minimum expenses that she possibly didn't get taxed on if the aunt just paid in cash and she didn't claim it. Set some limit for successfully doing each competition (like bringing back the dummy in a fetch competition or clearing all the obstacles in agility) and every dog that clears gets a ribbon.

Depending on the figure, they range from $55 to $600 with my most expensive one so far was an Owl that cost me around $700. Based on what I have so far, I would have to spend over $11,531. Some of these figures have the same animal but in different colors or different poses, which is probably why my mom criticized me for spending my hard-earned money on same useless items I only get to touch once. She actually took a few of my Owls, Cats and Fish figures that cost me around $1,500 to ether sell or give them away. I told her that she shouldn't have taken them in the first place since these are collectables and they cost a lot of money, which I enjoy collecting occasionally. She got annoyed at me for spending my money on the same figures and argued with me saying that having the same figure does not mean wasting money on it. As a response, I said, "Well If you really want to get rid of things, how about cleaning out the garage? It's filled with over thousands of dads tools, screws, and other things I haven't seen him use since I was a kid!" To which she replied " No! Your father likes to collect tools! It doesn't matter if he doesn't use them, he enjoys collecting... Oohh don't be a smartass!" We may be in the same house but I have the right to spend my money however I want and she shouldn't be throwing out things I paid for.
    Note, I do have a well paying job, making $23 an hour as a Dietary which I use to pay bills and such, I have a hobby of drawing commissions and house sitting which I use to purchase these collectibles. So I am very careful of how much I am spending on these figures.

    First Story, NTA: This poodle owner isn’t making things fair for everyone else. Whats the point of the dog olympics if this poodle is going to win it every year? I think OP is in the right because at that point all of the prizes will just keep going to this woman
    Second Story, NTA: OP's MIL wouldn’t be an asshole if she had done one simple thing: ask. MIL needs to ASK OP if she can do xyz. Instead of that, she just does what she wants without a care in the world. OP's husband is getting mad at the wrong person; sure MIL intentions were good but no one likes things being done without at least some permission or heads up
    Third Story, NTA: I mean I don’t see anything unfair. OP told her niece from the start that the room and free rent is for a live in nanny, now that she isn’t a nanny anymore so she shouldn’t expect to live there rent free. OP would’ve been an asshole if she didn’t tell the niece that fact and just now told her
    Fourth Story, NTA: OP's dad's wife is trying to push her homophobic views onto OP and if OP's dad doesn’t want to stop his wife then OP doesn’t have to visit him
    Update: So this man is picking his wife over his own child....father of the year everyone. This man is pathetic and honestly deserves to lose whatever form of relationship he has with OP
    Fifth Story, NTA: Well I mean this has been an ongoing occurence until it caused major damage. So I mean OP was right, he did tell her so.

Your father Hastings completely wrong, you were doing fine without him all these years, if he wants a relationship with you then he needs to work to make it happen not the other way around. First story: OP added that they tried to add a limit to the amount of events each dog could compete in but the poodle lady would only agree to cap it at 8 out of 10 events and wouldn’t agree to anything lower. L remember there’s a senior dog category that this dog can’t enter so essentially this dog could still win a majority of the competition if they agreed to that. So in friendlies and small tournaments I played worse decks, tried interesting but less consistent strategies and when I played younger players I would gloss over when they didn't perfectly follow the rules.
    Because its not fun to always win, and no one wants to play against the person they know will flatten them.

    If you have someone in your life that is capable of fixing your attempted DIY projects (or fuckups)... how about you ask that person for assistance or insight BEFORE starting said project? "Do you think it is fairly easy to do ____?" or "Do you think my plan [Explain plan] will work to achieve [goal]?" And let the more knowledgeable one either help or assist you. My father is one of said people and I ask him for help or assistance all the time (possibly annoyingly so), rather than making a bad choice and needing to feel guilty asking for help after it's too late to choose a different method. Plus, if we do something together, it's some nice bonding time as adults that we, regrettably, don't get as much of anymore.

    I'll say this as a nanny:
    Ignoring the fact it's her niece, being paid to live in a house rent free on the condition you watch the kids is every nanny's dream job! But if the nanny finds a new job, yes, it is expected that she will no longer be getting room and board. At least OP was nice enough to help her niece look for new housing with three months' notice. And you mean to tell me in 2 years the niece hasn't saved up at least a little? $200 a week may not be much in the long run, but surely she set SOME of it aside. If not, why doesn't the mom help with housing fees?
    OP has been more than generous. But she needs care for her kids and if the niece can't provide that, the room should go to the new nanny.

    Story 4, it's worse than you're recognizing. The niece got free rent, but also got paid to watch her cousins. Childcare is tough, but these children were young and likely were put to bed fairly early. She probably had many hours where she was making 22/hr non taxed. Assume the kids were put to bed at 9, that's 3 hours a night largely uninterrupted to do hw, watch tv, hang out, or whatever. So, $66 per night, 198 for 3 days. Getting paid 200 to chill at home watching your cousins, probably eating free food, paying no utilities, and just living a cake walk of a time as a college kid. This kid was given so much. Then to get mad over needing to move out? That's super ungreatful. Then the sister is also ungreatful. Like why is it on the widowed mother to provide for the college kid daughter? The niece is unbelievably unrgeatful and the sister is complete trash. 4/5 buttholes at least.

  • @Sanodi21

    First story, NTA but how many things are wrong with this lady? You bring this gold medalist to amateur hour then throw a massive fit when people think it's unfair and don't want to compete anymore? Then try to go to a HOA for help? I do agree with the idea someone else had that no cash prize but whoever wins gets a donation done in their name or that there's other competition ideas that aren't a straight race.
    Edit: OP did make a comment after the video was recorded or maybe Rslash didn't catch it, they actually tried to talk with this lady with the HOA as mediators but it went nowhere. OP wanted to make other categories for 'serious' racers, HOA shot it down because they can't make it appear serious. OP wanted to restrict the amount of categories people can enter out of 10, she wanted 8 and the HOA backed her. So OP did try to make things fair but after realizing the HOA was siding with her, they decided to cancel and cut a check for the shelter directly.

    NTA, you could add a clause to limit the amount of categories a dog is allowed to win, or create a class for 'show dogs'. In some dance competitions we have a championship section, where dancers compete for higher level prizes, we also offer a restricted section, for dancers who haven't placed in top 3 in previous 2 years. So just create a section specifically for show dogs, and write a clause that if dog has placed in top 3 in certain competitions they aren't eligible for class X, Y, Z

    As for the bonus question, it's too bad the poodle owner didn't donate the money to the shelter, she wasn't obligated to do so. I'd say OP is TA in that context, albeit a soft YTA.
    *Second OP:* OP's MIL shouldn't have gone through and thrown out OP's things from OP's house without OP's permission. OP is NTA. If her husband has a problem with it, he can stay with his mom at the hotel, assuming OP has someone else to take her to her appointments.
