Interestingly. The double jeopardy rule was scrapped in the UK a few years ago. This was because a young man who was acquitted of murdering his ex after getting NOT GUILTY went round bragging that he had done it. He was charged again and got GUILTY
Like the Emmitt Till case in USA. Suspects were wrongfully acquitted & later admitted to beating the 14 year old black boy to death beyond recognition in 1955.
Without double jeopardy it wouldnt matter how innocent you were. You could have been on another planet, it wouldnt matter. They would have an infinite number of opportunities to prosecute you. Just try a different strategy each time until one sticks. Its better to let 100 guilty men walk free then to find one innocent man guilty.
Blaming double jeopardy in _this case_ is missing the point. This should have been an easy prosecution for police. They hadn't even searched the suspect's home properly, and they gave a deal to a witness that actually _weakened_ her testimony. The investigators fumbled this easy slam dunk. So yeah, frustrating but not for the reasons that most people seem to focus on.

The prosecution should have realized that they didn't have enough evidence on the tape recording to convict Melvin.
They should have charged him with aggravated kidnapping the second time.
Even if it wasn't enough it was certainly enough for a search warrant of the defendant's home. The witness said photographs were taken, they needed to find those photographs in the defendant's home.
If there was a search warrant they didn't look very hard.

G.K. Chesterton
Something was really wrong with Mary to be able to witness it. Why did they take photos????? The questions they tried to set Melvin up with, were really lame.
WOW! you’re almost at 1,000,000 🙏🏾 Blessings to you Dr. Grande!
That fall through the glass table was good justice considering he tied her up and assaulted Brenda on a living room table. Oh, the irony lol.
Dr, you are the only sense I hear in this crazy world 🌎.
Hmmm. Not sure where my comment went. Another good analysis. Thanks Dr G😊💜💜Congrats on 997K. So exciting when you hit the MILLION!!! 🥳🌷⭐🔥🎉
Congratulations man good job. 1million
💔💔💔🙏🙏🙏 Prayers for Brenda
Wow, it's crazy to watch how fast your channel is growing. Helped undoubtedly by your consistent content output and quality
I like your shirt Dr.Grande!!! I live fairly close to Louisville. Scary how close he would have been to me. Under 3 thousand subscribers to get to one million. I can’t wait for you one million subscribers video.
I feel very bad for this poor victim. Good God. It would be interesting to see what kinds of police departments resort to using psychics. Just ridiculous.
I live in Louisville, Kentucky and I remember this case very well.
I agree with you, Dr Grande! Mary got off easy, too!
Shouldn't prosecutors consult with Dr. Grande on sound plea deals offers?
Dr. Grande makes an excellent point when he discusses what Mary could have said to Melvin to inculpate himself on tape. I like the critical thinking stressed in these videos. Very well done!
Movie of the Week: Bryan Cranston as Melvin, Marisa Tomei as Brenda, Toni Collette as Mary.
An excellent analysis. I remember this case - a truly repulsive slimy disgusting pos. Your succinct review of police incompetence (SOP these days) and perp motivations were totally on point. Really enjoyed this one!
An importer/exporter? Wonder if he knows Mr Vandelay
Seinfeld?
this is one of the most interesting cases you covered in a while, with a v good analysis, more twists than a pretzel; please think of covering Murder Of Helen Bailey !! (a horrible case with some similarity)
He lobbed Boris in for good measure!
