      Well stated. I agree, the distinction between the legal standard of guilt in "reality" and the legal standard, "beyond a reasonable doubt," is incredibly important. I'd enjoy a comprehensive analysis of the two. I've experienced significant backlash for comments explaining the difference between the two. Particularly in the Scott Peterson case. Do I believe he killed his wife? Probably. However, had the jury followed the instructions given, an acquittal would have been the verdict. Much of the population cannot think critically, or separate their emotions from fact. An in-depth analysis would be beneficial to many. Wonderful coverage of this case, as usual. Thank you.

    I think this case speaks to the importance of having different people in one’s life. Although it’s great when couples are strongly connected, it is also important to communicate with other people such as friends and relatives. That is not only a source of social support but also a great way to exchange ideas, thoughts and appreciate a variety of perspectives.
    I am not saying this was the reason for the murder, but I don’t see how a relationship like theirs is helpful.

After 24 years being the only non-LDS person in a neighborhood we’ve moved, but I didn’t have friends there … not really …especially once they realized I wasn’t converting … it’s hard to be real friends with people who are only interested in converting you.

You don’t have to stick by mom or dad simply because they are your parent. Parents abuse kids so much in so many other ways besides physical . They screamed her over . Cut anyone off who is toxic idc who they are !!!! I have and I’ll never regret it. I’m tired of people telling me it’s your mom you’ll be sad when she’s gone . The hell I will 😂 not sorry

    On fantasy and reality, sometimes expectation falls short and if there are no coping skills to deal with failure, the mind will alter the failure until it becomes acceptable (thus making it a fantasy), I do this with the most traumatic experiences of my life, in my mind I can go back and walk down a different path. A better path. It doesn't matter when the trauma occurred, I go back and undo it. But I know it's fantasy not reality and you are correct Dr Grande, it's like a drug I go back to. I think the difference here is contact with the world around you, but then again, how many times have we seen fully social people have a psychotic break.

    Hi, I have been watching Landscapers and I would like anyone who was interested in watching it not to be put off my Dr. Grande's assessment of it. It is not meant to be a bio-pic
    of the couple. Rather their story is used as a jumping off place to examine the world of fantasy versus reality. These are very ordinary people who ended up in this extraordinary
    situation. It looks at heroism and villainy and romance through the lens of the everyday. They were fantasists but the fantasy help them deal with the problems real life presents
    like child abuse or grief. It is as if they couldn't recognize that they themselves were in a tragic or bad situation because they thought things like that happen on a grander scale
    to grander people. It is probably why they turned themselves in so naively. And why they couldn't seem to accept that they'd really done anything wrong. The acting, particularly
    Olivia Coleman's and David Thewlis', is beyond superb and it is staged more like a theater production rather than your usual police procedural. I haven't seen the last episode yet
    but I am thoroughly enjoying it and appreciate that it makes me think not just watch. I rank it as one of the best things I have seen in a while.

    Would you discuss the research regarding hyper-religious upbringing / parental scrupulosity and negative outcomes (e.g. Josh Duggar, Jacob Stockdale, others?)

    • @bthomson
      @bthomson 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Somehow the suspension of reason that is needed in a very religious upbringing seems to cause a disconnect with other types or reality!

    Thank you Dr. Grande for covering this case! I did ask you last week if you please could analyze it. I had no idea you would be this quick and effective as usual 😊😁

    Hello Dr. Grande❣️ Thank you for the new video!! Usually I'm able to watch your videos IMMEDIATELY when they're uploaded. However, I had an extremely serious emergency with one of the prisoners that's one of my patients. But I MADE SURE the VERY FIRST THING I did when I got done, was watch this video! YOU'RE THE BEST❣️

    Thanks Dr Grande! It's interesting how siblings respond during mutually successful careers where one is clearly stronger than the other. I would love to hear what you think of the Leto Brothers, Jared and Shannon. They have such an amazing, mutually respectful and loving relationship although Jared's success has been greater in many ways. It's an interesting dynamic. Love to hear your thoughts 💜🌵

    To be fair if her dad abused her as a child, then both mom &dad manipulated and stole her inheritance, I’ve zero sympathy for their deaths. I’d even go as far as “they had it coming” and a “well done” to the couple……two more monsters wiped out…..

    One would hope that in a couple one of the people would have enough moral compass to realize that murder is not the answer! These two were too much alike so no brakes were applied!

    • @heatherwillarose8009
      @heatherwillarose8009 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Unfortunately, their moral compass was devastatingly absent. I believe they were experiencing shared psychosis. Had these two never met, In my opinion, the murders wouldn't have occurred.

      These two were an odd couple, that's for sure. How do these things happen?
      1. "I know! Let's murder my parents and get lots of money!
      2. "Great idea! Count me in!"
      That's just unbelievable to think about. 😯

    Dr. Grande-- would you please analyze the techniques of a speaker/life coach Teal Swan? She speaks in what seems to be a very sensible way about empathy and relationships, but then starts talking about the power of numbers and symbols. Would you mind giving your take on her?

    It sounds like the abuse she suffered maybe caused her to live in Fantasy world and the same abuse made it easy for her to be okay with murdering them. I think he was just sympathetic towards her and wanted to be happy.
