I sold many of my guns when I got divorced, a sad day. I recovered and replaced many of them but I don't shoot very often because I live in the city. You are fortunate to be able to shoot where you live.
@@vernonland5987 That's a sad tale. Glad you were at least able to replace many of them. Having to pack up and go to a public range really takes a lot of the fun out of the sport. Did that my entire life and understand anyone's displeasure with it. Being out here and able to shoot whenever I'd like has certainly spoiled me.
Have had a couple of rifles in 22-250. A Remington 700BDL with heavy barrel, made a new stock to it to heavy it down a bit, gave this one away to my nephew when I moved to the US and got a new Savage in 22-250 over here. It shoots one-hole groups at 100 yards with tailored handmade ammo.
@@norseman5041 Not surprised at all. The 22-250 is a laser beam, especially with tailored handloads. I've got a friend that competes 100 and 200 yard benchrest with his. Nices rifles you have/had.
Ill never buy hornady again either. That video of their vp or ceo or whatever lecturing the consumer was absolute bs. They said they couldn't pump out ammo fast enough, then announced they were sending boatloads of ammo to ukraine
For all intensive purposes the chamber pressures are very nearly identical between the two, maybe a thousand or two more on 22-250, which is not much difference. It's not the pressure that erodes a barrel it's the volume of super heated gasses generated which is obviously more in the 22-250. 223s generally all have a much faster twist rate than a 22-250 which handles longer heavier bullets that have much better ballistic coefficients which makes it actually a better performer than the 22-250 for very long ranges.
@@randyphillips559 Just curious, because I'm not aware of any, but are any of those heavy, high BC ones actual varmint bullets or just target bullets? I'm in the camp that doesn't agree with using target bullets on anything with a heartbeat. Most 22-250s I've seen have a slow 1/14 twist which should only stabilize up to about 60grains. Figured that wouldn't matter since most .22 caliber varmint bullets I see are 55gr or less. If the goal is extended range target shooting, then I'd agree an appropriate twist .223 would be better.
We hunt Moose and Caribou and Bear here during the licensed Hunting Season. We were unsuccessful in acquiring a license for this season…hopefully next year. Lots of great info on rifles.
@@AlasBabylon1 You are very welcome. I'm the same as you and never forget or forgive those things. It's a shame too because Hornady always had reasonable prices on bullets I liked for handloading. I'm well stocked, but may look to some Eastern European companies for components in the future since our domestic companies want to play it that way.

*@TheBackwoodsHermit* I'm talking balistically, a 50 gr bullet in a 22-250 can reach over 4,000 ft/s, it's gonna have flatter trajectory and more energy than a 55 gr bullet. Therefore, it's gonna hit harder and explode more violently on impact.
