Yes a very nice rifle, I looked at one today. Would have liked to see it come with a single set trigger like my 85 VLS. Maybe that will be a future option.
Nice review that shows a quality built rifle. Weird that there isnt even one downside to it though, was waiting for you to find something. Being a varmint it could have a lighter trigger weight preset, then I guess you could get the set option. Also no real explanation as to why first 3 groups had a flyer and then the 4th redo. Then the very last one didn't, has to be a reason or it's a downside. Great vid and well done on a fantastic channel 👍
I think it just took a few mags to settle in and I would have liked more ammo selection to test but it’s a good result for the s&b which normally doesn’t perform the best
@@ozziereviews absolutely, shows you don't need to feed it high grade ammo for it to perform. Hard for us viewers to know from vids how many rounds has been through it. Could be a handy bit of info to include for reference on this sort of situation. You may of said it and I missed it but.
"rifle settling in" - did you re-torque the receiver screws before taking it out? You can't trust the groups until you know the action is torqued down correctly, and from the factory, they often aren't. My 85 22-250 shoots the Sako Gameheads into half an inch, and handloads into one hole. It'll hit a 4 inch gong at 400yds all day long.
The magazine has too much extra lenght in front of the cartridge. It may affect how the cartridge is chambered. The bullet may change its position and affect accuracy negatively. Sorry for my english. This is not my mother tongue.
Na, its just crap quality control from SAKO.. they should just make it in 308 and nothing else, like everyone else today as they cant make anything but 308 or 223 any more. its sad.
Great review and love watching you put these guns through the ringer. So far I have not seen the Sako 90 yet. But last year I did have a 30-06 in the 85 action. But I was one of those who experienced an ejection issue and even though I changed the spring on the extractor claw nothing helped so I got rid of it. I live and hunt in western Canada where we have a good grizzly population so I needed a gun that functions perfectly. Loved the action, accuracy and smooth bolt operation etc but when a fired case gets hung up in the action that is not good enough for me at the price point these guns are at. It is Jan 1 2024 and I’ve yet to see a 90 in a 270 or 30-06 etc. Only short action and 7mm Rem/300 WM. But they come in at 8.2lbs. Too heavy. Can’t understand why Sako didn’t put the 90 in a Finnlight model?
Nice review, as always! I suspect that you would get better consistency if you tried a greater variety of factory ammo to find some your rifle really likes, or reloaded and carefully worked up your loads; frankly, some manufacturers produce better quality/more consistent ammo than others and cost isn't always a predictor of consistency. Lots of manufacturers "guarantee" rifles with 1 MOA accuracy out of the box, but, in my experience, that is usually very ammo-dependent, especially as most traditionally constructed hunting bullets (as opposed to things like the Berger VLD hunting bullets etc.) are not designed for pinpoint accuracy, but rather with terminal ballistics in mind and capable of "good enough" accuracy to get the job done. Match bullets are a different breed...
just wondering, last shot flyer, maybe barrel heated up? first shot flyer, clean bore or cold bore flyer? i do have issues with first shot, fouled bore though, with my varmint tikka 223. It rarely means a miss at 100M, but it is noticeable when checking zero. the flyers you had were all first or last shots, other than that, pretty bloody nice groups.
@@ozziereviews by the end of the video, my thoughts had changed. i guess reloading is the answer. rifle shot pretty good for factory ammo though. nice shooting out to 200.
They are flat but they are a cannon noise wise. I don't think you can beat the factory forward set trigger of the 85 but still a good looking rifle. My 85 with hornady factory vmax or ADI green tip ammo is more accurate than the one you show but maybe just settling in or likes a different brand.
