The MG3 Hybrid+ is a small full self-charging hybrid hatchback, it takes on competition from cars like the Toyota Yaris, Renault Clio E-Tech to name a couple.
I first saw the MG3 Hybrid+ at the Geneva Motor Show earlier in the year, I was impressed by its sharp design which looks especially good in “Battersea Blue” metallic paintwork! Unfortunately, we don’t get it in yellow as other regions do.
The hybrid powertrain is highly impressive and unique compared to other cars on the market. It pushes out 192BHP with a 3-speed automatic, this was smooth and made the engine “Roar” less than I’ve noticed in traditional CVT hybrids.
There are 2 trims to choose from “SE” and “Trophy” I tested out the Trophy model which is £2,000 more than the SE, but I think it is definitely worth the extra cost with plenty of equipment added.
A huge thanks to @lancastermg for making this video possible, you can check our clips from this video in smaller sections on their channel.

Hi Sam, we have had our Trophy for three weeks, having come from a Saab 2011 93 Griffin. the car is brilliant, has great performance, and more standard equipment than most at twice the price, Well done MG
Hi Jeremy thanks for sharing! I’m sure it wasn’t easy to let go of the Saab, but the MG sure will be more of a blast to drive, cheaper to fuel and easier to park. 😄
Brilliant review Sam👏 I came accroas your channel when I watched your review of the car at the Geneva car show. It inspired me to look into the car and was one of the first to place an order, based on your review without a test drive and I'd never driven an MG. I've been looking forward to this full review. I've had mine nearly 2 months now. I've got the Metalic Black Trophy Model. Just short of 1k mileage now and I have no complaints at all. You've been spot on, not critical and pointing out things people may not like. Keep up your reviews. This is an honest one. 🎉
Thank you! That’s great to hear, I’m also glad you are enjoying your MG3. More reviews on the way 😄
Great review. Subbed. Have my MG3 Hybrid trophy spec just over 3 weeks. Love it. Smooth driving. Very comfortable seats. Split seat a non issue for me. Very happy with MPG. Averaging between 59 and 62mpg. Unbeatable spec/performance for price. Well done MG.
Thank you! I’m glad you are enjoying your new car, I agree it’s very smooth and they did a great job with the seats. That MPG was about what I was getting 👍🏻
Your review has detailed info with unbiased opinions. MG has been drawing a lot of heat from competition. A balanced review is just what we need. Thanks.
That’s exactly what I aim to deliver, so I’m glad that’s coming across! Thank you 😊
Great review thanks Sam.
I’m glad you enjoyed! 😄
Well done Sam - quality work as always 😊 (even the wasp wanted to be associated with your good work 😂). Wonder if it’s the same wasp from your last MG review that’s been waiting for you to come back 🤣😁
It’s a heck of a lot of Car for the money - I can see MG doing well with these. The lack of a split folding rear seat is a bizarre omission, like you it wouldn’t hugely bother me, but I can see it being missed by some buyers.
That being said it’s performance, warranty and price more than make up for any odd shortcomings here and there 🙂
Cheers Richard! Yes I forgot about that, the wasp loves an MG 😅
It sure is good value for money in this day in age, I agree it’s an odd corner to cut not having split folding rear seats, but again wouldn’t bother me majorly.
Great review. I had a test drive of one these last month and thought it was very impressive. Don't know why everyone is obsessed with the lack of split rear seat. Ive been driving 31 years and never needed to fold half the seat down. Oh and dont be fooled by the 7 year warranty as hardly anything is covered after 3.
Thank you! I think for families and tip runs etc, the split seats are useful and some manufacturers take it a step further like Honda with their ‘Magic Seats’, so it’s just a step behind, but like you mentioned it’s really not a dealbreaker for the majority of people! Yes the MG warranty isn’t comprehensive for 7 years.
Great review, very informative
Thank you, I’m glad it was helpful!
Amazing what you're getting for the money, it'll interesting to see what the long term reliability will be like.
I agree, it’s very good value against today’s market! MG have come a long way in recent years do hopefully it should prove reliable. Thanks for watching 😄
Great review. Thanks for not being a comedian. Lack of no rear split seat is a dealbreaker for me.Can't imagine what MG were thinking
Thanks Steve, are you saying I’m not funny 🤣 just joking! Yes I suppose it saved a few £, but it doesn’t make sense to me either! Hopefully they’ll resolve it and bring in a split rear seat.
I stopped watching at 0:20, sorry but i couldn't stand his voice.
Okay
What a bizarre statement.Your loss as it is one of the best reviews out there for the new MG3 Hybrid.
Thank you!
Sorry for stating my opinion, sir.
Dude looks barely legal to even drive....
I know I look young, but I’ve been driving for almost 3 years now!
Very true....and what a burden to have to carry through life, poor chap.
Please learn from Car Expert Australia how to review a car. Your review was not informative enough.
I went through all of the specifications of the vehicle, this is a UK review so the facts and pricing differ to AUS models.
