I got to meet a sales manager for Tropica at an aroid show last year, he was beyond impressed that us lil hobbyists have been able to tissue culture at home! (Also gave me some insider info on how much DRAMA there is between labs overseas..girl it’s wild)
Congrats on the new space, so excited to see what you start working on 😁

Absolutely great! I've been watching your videos for a long time and always look forward to every new episode! I studied computer science myself and now work in a MakerSpace at a university in Germany. I've also been playing around with Tissue Culture there and love it! We now have a rooftop garden at the university and we are currently building a large FarmBot there. We are already doing hydroponics, rainwater collection, solar island systems and much more there :) For indoor we developed a LED plant lamp with the common spectra with high intensity to test different influences.
In the last weeks I watched more and more videos about the thai constellation and the problem of root rot. I briefly thought of attaching a small mini fan to the glass to create an airflow to stimulate the plant to lignify and develop a better root system.
BTW another tip for those without professional equipment: hydrogen peroxide. H2O2. Super good. I always put the plants in 6% H2O2 for a few minutes and then briefly in distilled water, done. In hydroponics in Kratky format (without aeration) I always add a little too. The water doesn't tilt, hardly any algae form and you can really see how much more oxygen there is in the water. Amazing miracle cure.
Whatever. Thanks for your videos! They make a difference! 😉
I love plants and TC has become a new hobby for me! Thanks to you ❤
BTW. loved the intro, Nerd 🤓

Since 2020 you have come a long way... even the cute freckles vanished...
Anyway go for gold with orchids! It' can be a little bit more involved then what you've covered in your other videos. I decided to start my own lab down here in Australia 2 years ago with zero prior knowledge of TC, did a LOT of research and found a good mentor over a year ago and now have a few hundred flasks and counting of orchid species, also had a go at doing some crosses to get some bizzare hybrids for the giggles. Only down side compared to most other plants... they grow slowly, like super slowly and the mix requirements between plants can differ greatly between varieties not to mention trying to work out the best explanant for each type... (try the green root tip on the varigated Phal cutting just into the green bit insread of the stem altho that part of the meri may only work in liquid media and not SS) anyway don't stress there is always someone whos done a thesis on a plant or TC of it for a PHD and posted the information online, It is all part of the learning and fun of it! Either way you've got a solid background and a passion for it. You'll get there!! I managed to in a short time so you definitely will and besides It's great fun and super rewarding. I'm probably about 3 months off my first unflask only took 24months 😂

Congratulations on the new digs! As a profesional IRL Lab Rat, my one bit of advice would be to label, label, label EVERYTHING correctly the first time using a standardized method. The rest is just cleaning. Lots and lots and lots of cleaning. As I'm sure you're starting to learn firsthand. Cheers from N. FL.!

I second this underutilized advise! I used to have the mentality of.. I'll remember what this is.. 2 hours later I was trying to figure out exactly what it was that it is. I bought tons of labels and have a preprinted most of the things we culture. Only thing you have to do is write the date and code of the medium.

I love your videos & Im excited to see you grow! I used to breed tropical fish, which got me into aquascaping (basically building lush gardens underwater)- Ive always been into plants, so recently, as Im moving away for uni, Ive decided I want to start a rare-aquatic plant farm of sorts . My biggest issue was propagation and multiplying plants as it takes a while to grow and takes a ton of space.. After discovering your videos I think Im going to try and focus mainly on TCs - to multiply my plants- after which I can either sell the TC cups or transfer them normal growth to sell. Safe to say you got a follower for life haha! Thanks for the videos :)

I'm also a big Aquascape/Fish nerd and the tissue culture plant market is mostly in Europe and Asia, at this point, as it's simply cheaper and easier to grow them outdoors places, like here in FL. I've even spoken to some prominent "FishTubers" about it. They would like to offer "plants in jars" at their stores too, but it seems cost prohibitive at this point, but perhaps it's simply a matter of scale. If you make enough something, they start to become very cheap.

I worry when you say you're ordering specimens from southeast asia, and look up to a company that goes out and collects new species to introduce to aquaculture markets. look at what's happened with cactus poaching in texas and mexico. There are species that will go extinct in the wild in the next 25 years, and species we will only be able to keep alive through ex-situ cultivation, and part of that is because of overharvesting wild plants and poaching endangered species. as you expand, which is really exciting, I would hope you're able to direct some viewer attention to responsible sourcing of specimens, and the importance of in-situ conservation wherever possible.
