    in your case, i am a big fan of how well the wide blade shows of the pattern, your effort to drag it to follow the cutting edge really paid off, plus the double guard has to be fun to give it a swirl with, i'd love to wield a knife like this.

I’ve pulled it all down because it’s all going to the blade show in LA in Oct. If there’s a build you see on TH-cam that I might still have and want to purchase but can wait until after the show to receive it, I’ll sell those and just mark them sold. I have the mosaic Damascus bowie, zebra twist hunter, 1095 hunter, 52100 ball bearing take down bowie and the Loki dagger. @@TyrellKnifeworks that sub-hilt, slender & long-handle design is just SOVERIGN for using the knife in a wide variety of ways. I know sub-hilts are considered "fighters" automatically; they are not. The ability to pull the blade through what you are cutting, regardless of appplication, is assisted by the sub-hilt design (or, as Fred Perrin & I prefer, a straight-up ring since the full ring design doubles as a better hand guard), as is the ability to withdraw the blade from a dense medium after puncturing. In other words, the sub-hilt helps both cutting AND puncturing; both of which are what knives do =/

    I’ve always been told to first drill holes in the tang, before any tempering is attempted, because drilling after tempering, increases the likelihood of cracks in the tang due to it being already hardened.

    • @TyrellKnifeworks
      @TyrellKnifeworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve drawn back the temper on the tang so it’s soft and I can drill through it. I’m not drilling hardened steel. That wouldn’t work anyway. Thanks for watching

  • @ChristopherSalisburySalz
    @ChristopherSalisburySalz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    You made a fuller! Good job! I couldn't see it in the pictures because of the damascus. Everyone likes damascus but I don't care for it. I guess as a knife maker it's kind of a flex to say you made your own damascus but I prefer sold/single steel.

    • @TyrellKnifeworks
      @TyrellKnifeworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, many people love the mono steel look. Myself, I love the combinations and possibilities of damascus patterns. I'll be testing for JS next year so I'll have to do 5 mono steel knives... so watch for those builds! Thanks for watching!

    What an awesome work of art! My vote - considering the function is for a “fighting knife” - goes to you. If I had to be in a knife fight... and I hope it never happens, I think this one would have greater balance and functionality, and would never slip out of the hand.
    Only slight thing I’d prefer to see on this blade is a different profile on the fuller. Just seems a little narrow in proportion to my eyes. Maybe a slightly shorter length fuller, and with a noticeable chamfer on the fuller edges.

    • @TyrellKnifeworks
      @TyrellKnifeworks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely agree! The only ball end mill I had was a 1/4”. Funny that Airin did a fuller the same way but he had a 1/2” one. I certainly would have used it if I had it. 👍

    • @TyrellKnifeworks
      @TyrellKnifeworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bowie knives traditionally are hidden tang. Any knife with a guard has to be a hidden or through tang, unless it’s some slotted guard, but those are rare and don’t look nice. A hidden tang is still a very strong construction. Thanks for watching.
