  • This Lancer is not an EVO, or Mitsubishi at all for that fact. It is a turbocharged 4 cylinder manual transmission enthusiast car that is very inexpensive, worthy of being called a sports car, and will get you looks. Whether they are looks of confusion or disgust is possible, but hey they are looks right! This is my quick overview on this 1986 Dodge Lancer ES, I am very excited to bring this car to our channel and look forward to sharing the adventures of this car.

    My 2nd car...1985 Dodge Lancer with the 2.2 4 cyl and 3 speed auto in 1986. I enjoyed that car for almost 3 years and 70k miles. Traded it in on a new 1988 Dodge Daytona 5 speed. Great car the Lancer!! Love that yours is a 5 speed!!

    I had a 1987 Dodge Lancer in that same color and I absolutely loved it. Until I had an accident. Bringing back find memories. I was like 20s when I had this car. Mine was an automatic. It was in mint condition before I had my accident going to a job interview on a foggy day.

    I first started with proctor and gamble in Cincinnati in 88 they gave me a lancer with 2.5 auto it was great car comfortable I could Cruse even being base motor at 80mph easy all day , they had over a 100 of these in there fleet the parking lot looked like a lancer factory it was easy to get your car confused if you weren't in you designated parking spot , thanks for the trip down memory lane , still work for the ol gamble hopefully to retire in oct 25

    Loved your video about the lancer. I have one. I’m sure you’ve never heard of. One of my biggest regrets selling the car. It was a 1981 Dodge Aries SE coupe. I think I bought it in 85 took out a big loan. Just drove it at around 105,000 miles. The carburetor for the 26 hemi that the car had the wax went bad in it and would not idle smoothly. And around 130,000 the transmission went. I still owed $4000 on the car, I went to Willimantic Connecticut to the junkyard cannot remember the name of it. They had a 86 New Yorker turbo with like 4000 miles on it. That was rear ended. The trunk lid was in the backseat. Long story short we dropped the k frame the New Yorker dropped the key frame out of the Aries K and the 2.5 turbo charge engine into the Aries K. Ran into wire harness problem had to replace the whole wire harness. And steering wheel also had to change the wheels to 14 inch and not 13 inch because they went clear brake calipers. Also a hood scoop in the hood fromDodge Daytona. I drove that car more than 100,000 thousand miles after that. Talking about a sleeper. Wish I had money back then to have kept it one of a kind.

    This is the best combination for this car; turbo II with a 5 speed....wow. Without the turbo it was only like 100hp...when i traveled, i rented these and loved driving them.

    My very first car was a 1988 Dodge Lancer that was owned by one old lady. It came into my posession in 2001 and it was the best car I ever had. So fast! So reliable. I drove it from Maryland to NYC so many times. It lasted me quite a few years. I miss it

    I remember seeing these cars on the road in 91, & 92, even in 93, the inside looks old school like a classic car interior. It's truly amazing, definitely a rare car you won't see anywhere else.

      Gravecb7 Accord honestly I am too young to remember seeing them on the road. My mom had a Sundance that can remember riding in, but after that I don’t ever recall seeing any Lancers. I’ve had my fair share of Omni’s and I really want another, however I do have many fond memories in my dads Acclaim. That car pretty much inspired me to start wrenching because it seemed like we were pulling the engine in it regularly to replace flex plates lol. I am hoping I can inspire more people to find these “long lost” cars that really did kind of fly under the radar and more importantly kind of forge a new path of their own.

      @@powershiftautomotive6107 Well the Dodge Shadows were Junk cars Lemons, just like the Neons. The late 80's was the best decades throughout the entire 90's up until the early 2000's 2002, people were still driving cars from the 80's & 90's cars you don't even see on the road anymore. Even if they are still around, they're rare now.

    Very cool seeing this video about these cars as they're few and far between. My Mom had a 85 LeBaron GTS with those same awesome alloys you have there in the hatch. Maroon, maroon interior with digital cluster and turbo/automatic combo. It was a quick and great running car.

    Your windshield wiper issue is most likely a bad ground on the motor. Run a bypass jumper wire from the motor to ground and it should fix your issue.

    Loved your video. I have two of these, one needs complete restoration. Both sold in Europe so are named "Chrysler GTS". I find it tough getting any info on these and parts are scarse. One that runs and drives is a 1989 2.2 intercooled m/t (the Shelby not so Shelby version); another 1988 2.2 or 2.5 non-intercooled. Guy I bought it from told me it's 2.5, but that engine with a turbo was not available that year, so it must be either a 2.2 or there's been an engine swap at some point. The latter is a 3 spd a/t. No compression in one cylinder, and needs a complete repaint. People tell me to scrap it but I'm determined to fix and drive it; largest issue I have now are rubber parts - car sat in the sun for quite a while, a lot of rubber bits crack and fall apart. Do you have any clue where I can get these from?

    My first turbo Dodge(all of my turbo cars have been Dodge or Chrysler)was a 1987 Lancer ES turbo. Totally decked out and it was a 2.2 TI automatic. Mine was white with the sunroof, 15" eggshell aluminum wheels and sunroof, red leather, premium sound and everything else available in them. I loved that car and replaced at about 200,000 miles when I sold it to my brother and went to basically the 2 door version of the car, a 88 Daytona Pacifica TI auto that was also completely loaded including factory CD player mounted below the radio. I did some upgrades to it including an intercooler and Mopar Performance computer and made it a pretty fun and pretty quick car for a TI automatic.

      Tom M that is awesome, thank you for your comment! This is my first Lancer, and first turbo dodge as well. I always lusted after the Daytona Shelby Z’s, Omni GLH’s, Shadow ES’s, Spirit R/T’s and Shelby Chargers growing up and owned a couple Horizons’s and Omni’s but never turbo’s. I ventured into the DSM world and never got to enjoy turbo dodges the way I had always wanted. If it was a turbo Dodge I was intrigued by it growing up lol. I am very curious to see how well this Turbo1 will respond to a few mods, however I am a little leery about it being non intercooled, but I am thinking a water methanol injection system may help keep my intake temps somewhat under control at a higher boost level. I am hoping I can get it Road worthy and get to drive it and put the miles it deserves on it.

    Crazy it made less hp than the soon to come neon with the NA 2.4L. Problem with the old turbo cars though is they didn't make any boost, 7-9psi. Now they're reaching 20psi bone stock.

    • @powershiftautomotive6107
      @powershiftautomotive6107  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it is crazy, it’s impressive though thinking that the non-turbo carb’d Variants were good for like 70-80 some horsepower lol it goes to show how far we have come with ECU capabilities because the 1.4L in my wife’s dart makes 160hp and 180lb-ft. Nearly half the displacement but 25 years of technological improvements and fine tuning capabilities is impressive for sure. The 2.2-2.5 limitation is the cylinder head unfortunately. Not that it isn’t able to be made fast it’s just a lot easier with more modern head layout like the NA Neon head. And talking about 20 psi stock it is crazy because I was working on a 2014ish Chevy Cruze that was pushing 30psi stock. These tiny turbos that don’t flow that much have to run at high boost to make what they need apparently lol. I’m guessing it may help the tiny displacement engines actually produce the torque needed.

      @@powershiftautomotive6107 I have the same 1.4T in my 500 abarth, its 18psi stock and can handle 25 (fully forged bottom end). I see the talon in your pic, had a 93 Tsi, it was only 9psi, but we all know what they can do cranked up! The Alfa Giulia quad is 35psi...2.9L

    • @powershiftautomotive6107
      @powershiftautomotive6107  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      SP392 oh yes I love the 1.4L coupled with the 6MT it impresses me every time I drive her car. Obviously not fast, but very respectable. That’s funny you mention the Giulia Q because that is literally a bucket list car for me. Even cooler that it is a “Mopar” under the FCA partnership. Another car I’m not absolutely sure the model, but I’ve heard some of the more recent turbo 4cyl Mercedes models are over 40psi. Yes for the DSM’s they are really my bread and butter. I’ve built and tuned half a dozen bigger power cars and probably 20+ other more mild builds and they never fail to impress me. I could talk for days just on the DSM topic lol, however since I have done so many of them I really want to venture into other builds I haven’t got to experience yet hence this Lancer and I’d like to do an Omni GLH or a Spirit R/T as well. I enjoy many genres of autos lol
