I've been saying this for years. The NBA discourse is horrible. It's always sh*tting on someone, comparing one person to another (often times players who play different positions), horrible takes, and just flat out stupidity.
Just look at the Twolves. They swept the Suns, took the defending champs to game 7 and came back from being down 15 to beat them on the road, to going 1-3 against the Mavs. Everyone hated the timberwolves. Everyone hated KAT and Rudy. This is the twolves first time making the WCF in 20 years. The Twolves have historically been trash, then when they get one good year, the media is painting them to be like the bad guys that are in Luka's way.
Then the Luka glaze. Luka gets glazed non-stop all year long, then the finals happen. Luka glazing stops immediately. NBA discourse is sad.

He was a happy go lucky guy that didn't have the killer instinct. He wanted to win but he didn't NEED to win. He didnt hate losing more than he liked winning. A total contrast with Kobe. They didn't get along at all. When Kobe lost to the Celtics he was GUTTED and went immediately back to work. When Howard lost in the finals the next year he was just like, "Eh... Bummer. Now let's get something delicious to eat, go home to my mansion, sleep with a beautiful woman, spend some of my millions. Thatll make me feel better."
The guy wanted to be a Shaq style "actor." That tells you a lot.
Also he got a boost from the fact that there were few good big men at the time. People would literally talk about how Andrew Bynum was the second best center on the league. There was even a narrative that said Bynum was the BEST center in the league because he played back to the basket and could score on his own and Howard relied on pick and roll and offense rebound scoring.

That finals seems closer than it was. I watched every game as a Laker fan and there was just never any real question or concern over the outcome of the series. Jameer Nelson was hurt and Howard wasnt the type of offensive player to get buckets on his own. He relied in pick and roll and alley oops and stuff. Needed a good point guard to operate.

teams he had way less pressure on. he could’ve been an incredible role playing center but decided to just stop playing because of his bratty attitude and immaturity.
also, don’t disrespect jokic by even putting dwight and nikola in the same sentence. jokic is such a far superior player that he shouldn’t even be compared to dwight at any age at any level of the game

you're missing a context, he injured his back in 2012. as an athlete that *completely* relies on his freak athleticism, he's never the same after that.
he's more mature and definitely less bratty (no pun intended) in the bubble, really solid role player, stopped jokic inside scoring greatly in the playoff.

Before Jokic and Embid, I would say that Demarcus Cousins, Dwight Howard, and Al Jefferson were the best centers in the league during the early part of the 2010s. Howard was not in his prime in the 2010s, but he was still a force to be reckoned with during those Rocket years. Cousins was formidable and the most skilled center in the league--well on his way to being a great center. Al Jefferson was severely underrated and had the best post moves among centers, but his game was like a relic of the past.

Orlando Dwight was a very good young player. His lack of growth on offense held him back from true greatness. If he had developed a real weapon on offense that wasn't just "be more athletic than them", whether it be a more reliable back to the basket game, a jumper for the pick and pops, handles to drive the basket from the perimeter, ANYTHING, he would have had a HOF career.
