I used a white cotton filtering cloth and a Brita pitcher to strain the oats. It was funny that I had four of them that I had bought on impulse, not knowing what they were for. I was going to use them to make little ghosts for Halloween and hang them on the tree branches. I'm so glad I didn't. Now I have them for making oat milk or oat/almond milk. Vanilla flavored almond milk mixed with oat milk, makes a real treat for bedtime, instead of ice cream

To eliminate all that slime completely , use chilled water and oats from the freezer . It actually does work ! Put some Himalayan salt after blending and straining . Also vanilla and stevia or maple syrup 👍 Yum 😋

Nice! I’m a dairy girl, but this sounds like a great alternative. I may even try it. Nut milks are so expensive to make so oat milk sounds that much better for times I’m feeding folks who don’t do dairy.

Yay! Oat milk is just now trickling into my rural town. Since it’s a new “trend”, you can bet grocers are jacking the price up. I like rice milk but, it’s thin, even with carrageenan added. This looks delish! Thank you for the video! I so want a barn like this one day. 😂

    • @shamanbeartwo3819

I tried Yay! Oat milk the other night and was very impressed. Oat milk is much thicker, creamier than the almond milks I have tried and it makes a far better latte than almond milk does. It will froth up much like whole milk does. And oats are a lot cheaper than almonds.

Really great informational video - as a fellow chef I greatly appreciate the depth of detail. Will certainly try this - I haven't been too pleased with the results of other recipes as yet. The biggest issue has been pretty much everything you don't want aside from the slime - watery and flavourless.
In regards to your video, the only criticism would be lack of providence - using everything - a very chefy thing would be to find a use for the oat residue like in baking or granola or something. Apart from that, awesome vid! Thanks!!!

I made oat milk a couple of days ago and realized that I blended it too long in my Blendtec, 40 seconds, and it went slimy. Then, when I went to heat it up, it thickened. I didn't want it to thicken. I was going to make hot chocolate, but what I got instead was slimy oatmeal gravy with a hint of chocolate. It was yucky at that point and it was only the next day. The first day was yummy oat milk blended with 2 pitted dates. Anyway, thank you for showing us the proper way to do it. I never soaked my oats last time either. I'll try this tomorrow. Soak oats for 30 minutes, drain, rinse, add to blender, add filtered water, blend (I'm going to go for 20 seconds), milk it.

i have done this too, it tastes like crap. I discovered that adding a pinch or two of salt it seasons the milk to get rid of the water taste. If you read full fat milk cartain there is 0.11g salt per 100g. I'm not sure how much natural salt is in the oats, but... adding 2 tbsp sweetening product, and chilling, makes it taste much more like the shop one. The scottish always add a pinch of salt to their porridge to improve the taste. (when water is used)

Is a Ninja blender considered a high-speed blender?

Hi Loni. Yes, I would consider a Ninja blender a high-speed blender.

Actually, I love oat milk in coffee. It foams beautifully and an oat milk cappuccino has become my hands down favorite coffee drink. You should give it a try.

Works a treat in my strong coffee. No curdling if I let the coffee cool for a couple of minutes first.

I quit drinking milk a couple of months ago and switched to almond milk at first. It made lousy mochas. The flavor wasn't the problem but the almond milk just will not froth. It acts like fat-free milk in that regard. But, I tried oat milk and was very impressed. The oat milk steams very nicely and froths up nice and thick. Add that to home roasted coffee beans from Ethiopia and its quite nice.

I don't understand the American obsession with adding sweeteners to everything and especially to a very simple food like homemade oat milk! Just leave it out and enjoy oat milk au naturel.

You didn’t state the amount of oats for the 3 1/2 cups of water. Can you share?

I’m so tire of this bs , milk comes from a mammal. All this other stuff are just drinks or juices. Stop calling it milk.
