    I used a vacuum blender with water and almonds then put the mix into the french press and got the best almond milk I've ever had! It works and will never go back buying almond milk.

    Genius! I use my French press for coffee, tea, and frothing milk already and now one more function added thanks to you!

    I made my first Oat Milk yesterday using a bag & yes, that's kinda slow & messy. Today, I thought of the coffee plunger & found your you tube. The only difference I made was processing the dry oats to a fine flour in my nutra bullet, then adding a Tbsp of sultanas, the water & processing again. ☆Yummy Oat Milk☆

    So simple! Yet another reason to include a French press or two in your preps! Thanks, Great Lakes!

      Good for coffee too during a power outage you heat the water in a pot on the grill and pour over the coffee and you have coffee!

    How about blending just half of the water with the oats straight in the French press with a hand blender (so as not too much to blend at once) then top up with the rest of the water and stir. Way less washing up to do after

    Awesome!
    We're moving from tetrapac (packaging in general.). Made my first batch yesterday using a food processor and the rags I use for tofu. What a mess. Gonna have to try this!!

    I use my trusty old Ninja Express chopper to make oat milk (and ice cream, soup, cole slaw...) Works incredibly well! You could also use a tea strainer instead of the French Press.

    Just tried this method using a Vitamix and it clogged the French press and didn't work. So make sure you use a food processor like this gentleman uses!

      @@br2080 There's lots of things people use them for. Baking into cookies, muffins, pancakes. Mixing in with certain animal feed. Using in compost, etc. I've heard of them being used in homemade soaps.

    I love the sliminess of oats. It's my favorite thing about it. Otherwise, I wouldn't eat it. 😅

    Any tips on oat milk yogurt?

  • @sheperryify

    would this work if we blended it in the vitamix first, or does it need to be more course in the french press strainer?

    • @GreatLakesPrepping
      @GreatLakesPrepping  ปีที่แล้ว

      Course doesn't necessarily matter, but over-blending it can increase the temperature. I know vitamix blenders can heat up whatever it's blending quite a bit. Once it gets too warm, the final product may be slimy.

    Yo man...a quick tip because I think you're awesome...sound is a cheap way to make a video go from 1 to 10. A lav mic, or lapel mic 🎤 is cheap enough. Add sound in post. Use audacity (free) to clean audio. Keep up the posts!

    How does one clean the (non-removable) filter? The oats stick (between the mesh and the upper holed plate) and do not wash away from the under side :(
    Also, do not leave overnight in a press, as oat milk - even industrial highly processed - tends to separate, undoung much of the pressing.

    • @GreatLakesPrepping
      @GreatLakesPrepping  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The filter is definitely removable. The long press rod unscrews from the base plate. The filter assembly is made up of 3 parts (with the mesh screen sandwiched between the other two parts). When you unscrew those bottom discs from the rod, you can separate everything and clean it all.
