The movie concept actually started as a totally serious horror movie and was going to be much gorier. It was only through extensive script re-writes that it ended up a comedy.
I would lose my absolute mind to see this in person. Beetlejuice has been one of my favorite films since childhood and only tonight, well into my thirties, I was trying to think what instruments were in the theme song. Then looked it up to see if I could find an orchestra performing it. So thrilling!!
this soundtrack is a clear demonstration of the type of composer that danny elfman is, that is, it is a mixture of a soundtrack between horror and comedy and even so it sounds good, if it is clear that someone knows how to make soundtracks that is danny elfman
I lived in East Corinth when i was a child, little did I know that my roots led me back to these Haunting Grounds of one of the Greatest films of all time.
The composer doesn’t necessarily have to know every position on each instrument, just the notes. Music notation is what allows composers to write music, think of notation as a language…the composer writes what he wants, then the musicians interprets it and they’re the ones responsible for positioning their hands to the corresponding notes on their respective instruments.
Damn!! Good job, everyone! And a big shoutout to the lower brass instruments in the main title. You are an impressive bunch. I know a good chunk of the score generally plays to the strengths of your instrument, but that opening title is something else. I dunno how to describe it other than 'manic'. It takes a musician out of their comfort zone, and tests them! Poor tuba guy lol
This is nearly perfect-the only trouble is they keep the spot mic on the first chair during tutti sections. When it’s supposed to sound like a section, it just sounds like one violin that’s too close to a mic. Seriously, otherwise this is basically perfect.
Absolute BRILLIANCE, i was soooooo enthralled, live in person would just fill me with suchhhh exultation! Sry I found a thesaurus on the floor this AM.
The cartoon version of the Beetlejuice theme is the best, but the performance here is still very solid. The french horn section sounds noticeably more powerful than in the original film, which is the best & most mischievous part of the theme in my opinion.
Amazing composition. Cant wait to hear what DE has up his sleeve for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice!
I got goosebumps when the trombone started playing.
Danny Elfman's love of highlighting sound textures. Growling brass, screeching strings, bells and chimes, and occasional cooing voices. I love it.
Cannot imagine how difficult this is to play. That trombone player especially. Just getting his breathing in sync.
Definately but easy but has to be fun as hell for all of them to be playing this lol 😆
I remember hearing Danny joking about how the tuba part is very involved and how his tuba player was basically turning blue.
he probably circular breathes
As someone who’s played it on viola, holy hell is it difficult
I play remnant and we tried playing This and we had som much fun 😂
When the French horns started, I lost my mind
Me tooooo
Me as well
Tim Burton: Is this a horror film or a Comedy?
Danny Elfman: Yes.
names should be switched

Isn't it the other way around?
This invokes all the horror film frights and nostalgic feelings from my childhood. This musical piece is amazing. Truly a masterpiece.
THE MOVIE IS NOT FOR CHILDREN
Danny Elfman is a musical genius!!!
He absolutely is, but hes also a major creeper in real life lmao . Still a fan of his work tho haha
John Williams is the Greatest. But Elfman is my Favorite. His music is so inventive and fun.
What about Jerry Goldsmith?
Everybody forgets Goldsmith@@XXLSSBBW
Seconded
That trombone gets me everytime. I listen to this at the gym 🏋🏻♀️

It’s amazing to see this arrangement done. Wow.
This guy made every part of this and knew every music position and transition from every instrument? Hes a fucking genius

Fun-fact:
The script writer for BeetleJuice also did work on the show Tales From The Darkside. Michael McDowell.
I originally said 'Alex'
Michael

What were the nominated scores at the Oscars in 1989? 🤔
I can always tell when its a danny elfman song by the hornline 😭
Hearing this now I can feel 'Batman Forever' soundtrack got influenced by this.

Thank Bartek? He translated Elfman into this masterpiece.

NO BC I LOVE THE CARTOON SM
Same!

Did Tim Burton provide the artwork?
Yes, those are his drawings.
This is awesome
I keep thinking that they're dead while playing instruments lol
Is it just me or is there a hint of The Simpsons theme hidden in there?
Mozart would have loved Danny Elfman 😂.
Mozart is about theatrical operal music but danny elfman is about dark one
The Juice is loose
