I don't speak a _word_ of Swahili (I'm from the UK), yet Natlan's anthem inspires an intense feeling of national pride and patriotism for a place that doesn't actually exist.
I find it ironic how throughout Genshin's storyline, Natlan is the region with the least information we had from when we were in the previous regions, yet it is Natlan's OSTs that is the most informative as it incorporates vocals with lyrics that tell the stories of Natlan. Wonderful masterpieces!
@@emilyjackson2055 >oral storytelling< y'know, i hadn't thought about it that hard, but now that you mention it, it completely makes sense why there's so much singing in the natlan themes
This...this is what "globalization" should be...the entire world came toghether for this performance...european orchestra, african singers, south american instruments, chinese composers and company...what a masterpiece!!
Too bad none of the main characters shown are black or even medium brown 🥲 they represent the lighter skinned people of the nations borrowed from, but not the brown people? It makes no sense 😭
In China, the way we understand culture is never about just the color of the skin. There are people from pale to dark skin color everywhere just in our own land. The way we think of the essence of a culture, it's about the inside: the way people think, the language spoken, the music, food, what is valued the most in a society, etc. As to the game, it's an anime styled game, characters look like that not because devs prefer white skin than dark, but because traditionally anime characters are just that kind of looking. You see, even characters in Liyue don't look like real life Chinese people (we dont have natural purple hair like Keqing), nonetheless, they represented the Chinese culture pretty well with their character design, with the region's music, food etc. I hope this could perhaps clarify it a bit. @@Vinadet
Mauvika earned my instant respect the moment she saw herself as equal to her people. Also I appreciated she didn't see us as threats, but as heroes in Natlan's time of need.

The couple playing the panpipes and flutes at 2:44 are family friends I’ve known for years. Recently their only son has passed away at the age 14 and I can’t imagine the pain they must be feeling. I’m sure he would’ve been immensely proud that they could spread Peruvian culture through such a famous platform. I wish my condolences and nothing but the best for this family and although it’s been years since I’ve seen them, I hope their son can rest peacefully ❤🇵🇪

I could only imagine what they were thinking listening to the lyrics of this song. I’m sure their son would be proud of his parents and I’m sure they loved him too. Each of these words would have hit differently and would have been played for him. Especially the part “come back we’ve been waiting” I hate the cliche moments of leaving home never saying I love you and never coming back.
I finally understand why they used Swahili. Swahili is like the national language that unites the whole country . Same goes to here , where we may come from different tribes , but it’s the national language that unites us all .
If you haven't already, you should listen to K'Sante's Theme from League of Legends too. As a pasty white guy, I also somehow felt both of these pieces calling for my soul lol. The absolute raw power of traditional African vocals and the African percussion/woodwinds in both of these pieces contain this undeniable force that just grabs you and pulls you in. I think it's an absolute shame this style of music is so rare in the western world. We're missing out big time.
@xMewShick Language is Swahili from East-Africa (around Tanzania), but the pan-pipes used in the music are from south-America. Natlan isn't a one to one representation from a place real life, it's multiple elements and influences from different cultures.
As an African I am absolutely amazed how it connects me with our way of seeing life and things like that make me stronger when I say that no matter how much we've been threatened I'll never regret being born African

THIS is why this game is my favorite. You cant listen to those bangers which we get with every region and say that genshin doesn`t properly show cultures. Genshin may not be THE best, but for me it is. It shows a lot of cultures in a interesting way and makes learning about them much more fun for those, who otherwise would not care at all. Music unites..
I can't agree more. sure, the game has a bit of a problem with skin color which is a bummer, but genshin, unlike any other "cultural representation" piece of media, actually made me research cultures included in this game and learn about the world. THAT'S what representation should be.
I actually cried when i heard and read the lyrics. Never been so hyped because of music like this before. Can't wait to enter Natlan and experience the music firsthand in the game.
Natlan should be represented at the UN or win a Nobel peace prize. Natlan represents sub-saharian Africa, Oceania and the whole American continent into a one-beautiful mix with enough fantasy elements as to have its own personality. Beautiful music, Genshin Impact never disappoints.
Many people, myself included, find themselves moved to tears repeatedly when listening to this piece. It goes beyond just giving me goosebumps; it makes me reflect deeply on the song's essence and why it resonates so strongly. Natlan represents a nation fighting for its destiny, with heroes who fall only to rise again. Their resilience and tragic struggles echo the centuries-long history of resistance against oppression, whether in Latin America, Africa, or Oceania. This song is an anthem for all those heroes who united and sacrificed themselves for their people and families. "For our homeland, we will shed our last drop of blood." Glory to Hoyomix for giving a voice to these often overlooked civilizations.
I cried when I saw the Quena and Zampoña in this video... I literally felt proud about my country and culture... Thank u Genshin Impact!! I'll be always thankful to you
Its really interesting what they did, fusing the flutes with baroque at the very beginning (swahili baroque btw lmao thats really odd), but also the general constitution of an epic orchestra to add volume to the rest of the theme. Though I think sadly the first theme is like one of the few times where the ocarina, zampoña, and quena shine in context, for the other themes they get melted into the tribal theme natlan searches for which is a bit of a shame.
Right? Knowing the potential of such beautiful instruments as quena and zampoña I couldn't help it but think maybe the composers could have used them in a more epic way at some parts of the songs, but still I'm so happy to see they made such amazing songs including them! This is true art.
The first song absolutely HAS to feature in the main quest, theres got to be an incredibly dramatic and heartfelt moment where this plays in all its glory!!
Agree!! I had a feeling that the first song will be use in the climax of the story soon...i mean, the music itself, and especially the lyrics, not only telling us about the information of the story, but also like some motivational words for Traveler and Natlan's tribes in facing the Abyss

@@Add-b4c theres only 7 regions and 195+ countries and hundreds of cultures around the world. It's impossible to add every single culture and country and its amazing how Hoyo added SOMETHING for all the main cultures/countries even if its mushed together
@@Add-b4c in my opinion I feel like it is amazing how they are incorporating multiple cultures into a music piece. It’s impressive, and many cultures overlap on certain things, so finding what is and isn’t connected to compose a piece take a lot of work. PLUS, if you didn’t notice Sumeru is the biggest region(so far) because it takes inspiration from the most cultures/countries. The desert let’s middle eastern and northern African instruments and tunes shine. The rainforest lets south Asian instruments and tunes shine. And there are a bunch of soundtracks, so a city theme could be mainly this country, while a cafe theme could be another. Also if you look at the comments people from many different countries are happy because they recognized something from their culture whether it be the steel pan or the Swahili vocals.
If you wanna pull a “I ain’t readin all of that” than what I said is summarized in these points: - the more cultures, the bigger the region, each spot in the region has a group of similar culture - so many soundtracks in one region, cultures can shine in a certain soundtrack - people from various cultures are happy

Im no saying that skin color is all that matters obviously but having played this game for years im just bored of having character starting to look all the same. I really like the fact that they went for a more modern style for Natlans cast since the more "tribal" look can often be misinformed. However i feel like the style makes a lot of the natlan cast just not as interesting. Especially Mavuika and Chaska
im north african and i had my time with the sumeru ost, one of the greatest modern days musical pieces ever written, but i have to admit that natlan’s ost surpassed sumeru’s. While sumeru ost gave us a feeling of multiple cultures combined in one song, a song that you would hear playing on the streets anywhere, enjoying it without paying much attention to it because you’re used to it, Natlan’s ost gave us a feeling of unity, a feeling of “no matter our differences we’ll always be one”. Natlan’s ost makes you stand up in chills, the way you’d stand up for your national anthem. The performers knew how to portray such a feeling, that no matter where you are in the world, if you were tightly familiar with african, american-latin, or native culture at some point in your life, you would absorb this ost, the way you would absorb a call to stand up for your nation, for your people. my expectations were nothing but high, i dont know how hoyo-mix managed to go even higher this time.

I've never been so emotionally attached to a patch of land defined by imaginary "ends" ever. Truly, this singular performance places a fire inside and ignites it increasingly higher and warmer.
I don't know what will happen in the story, but the first OST lyric legit makes me chill. The "Do you fear death? No" and "Come back, we've been waiting". I hope the hero of every tribe in Natlan get to bring glory to their people!
I'm Indonesian, when first listening to this on the stream it got me fired up giving a lot of tension, but when turning captions on it struck me and got me teared up a little. Genshin's ost can make you teared up when you know the context when the music is used in the part of story, but this time Hoyo-Mix did a great job got me teared up a little while not even going to Natlan yet. And for the ethnic instruments performer and singer too let's pay them huge respect in preserving their culture and hope the culture they preserving got more attention from the young and further upcoming generation.
Genshin somehow keep getting ethnic musician for EACH of their musical performance Sumeru, Fontaine, Inazuma, Liyue, Mondstat and now Natlan! Its FANTASTIC. Not many corporations bother with this kind of thing
As fellow Indonesian coming from eastern region the songs gave me goosebumps and teary eyes. Even though Natlan is majorly inspired by both Native American and African culture the music giving huge resemblance to our Austronesian traditional music (especially Papua)
Coming off the hype that was the Olympics, this anthem feels like how a proper sporting anthem should have been... It's so beautiful that I am still tearing up.
How do I stop crying? This is one of the best game's ost I've heard, it's perfect... Man, I love Natlan. This region made me return to the game after almost two years, only bc of the cultural representation!
Not gonna lie, the orchestral performance made me cry. Seeing all the different cultures performing was beautiful but also seeing two indigenous people performing just made me sob. I'm indigenous and seeing that alone just hurt and made me feel seen all at once because there is little to no representation of my people. Hoyo really outdid themselves on this one.
Your feelings are so ridiculously valid. It really creates an odd feeling to see such beautiful representation and know the problems exist simultaneously. It's definitely a testament to the hearts of the vocalists and musicians within the performance. ❤
It just feels so sad that all these people criticizing Hoyo in representation won't ever come close to what Hoyo has done for these people... Can't they see that hoyo is trying?
My friend who is congolese was actually bawling in the car with me when we were going to dinner yesterday. I started playing it and she was like "Oh cool Swahili", and as soon as the flutes at 1:44 started she started sobbing and it only went downhill from there. She doesn't even play or know anything about the game, I just told her there was some new music that is inspired by her native country. She said it made her miss her home which was wartorn when her whole family had to emigrate. Anyways I had to cry when she mentioned that. xD I think music like this is so powerful since it matches the theme of Natlan, which is War (oppression by colonizers), Death (the people's heroes martyring one by one to try and protect in the face of superior firepower), and Rebirth (their stories and spirit living on so the next generations can help revive the nations that were wiped out). It also had people from native cultures of Africa, South America, North America and other ring of fire nations, all countries that suffered immensely or had their culture, languages, people wiped out by foreign invaders performing together. This is a masterpiece for sure.
Dimeng Yuan and Yuxi Wang absolutely GOATED for these compositions!! Gosh these performances sent a chill down my spine. It's so majestic and powerful!
THIS IS WHAT MAKES GENSHIN BEAUTIFUL AND WORTH IT! They keep producing these kinds of art that unfortunately a few of the community realizes and is overshadowed by the gacha system. I really appreciate how the orchestra thus far has been a banger and brings the oomph and excitement for every region!
yes i love the culture being represented so good in the game! the skin representation is lacking... but the food, the music, the architecture?? ohmygod im ascending
Four acts later, Natlan's main theme finally comes to fruition... We have lost 2000+ people, faced 2000+ monsters. Everything finally came together. The domain quest was top tier...especially with how the finale theme used 1:24 as its base... Ushujaa waangaza mbingu na ardhi Mara tena ashinda Natlan
The music shows that the war in this nation is not about the misery, death, and chaos of the battlefield, but rather the struggle, the glory, and the vivid, optimistic way of life. I literally got tears in my eyes when hearing this.
Mexico's hymn is something like that it talks about defending our nation, and all the motherland sons bringing glory with them after the battle and even the ones who perished will have it.
The importance of waiting for a hero in both lyrics, made me remember current Simulanka, because it's centered around waiting for a hero. And in that case, the hero is not the Traveler. The titular hero in Natlan story is probably also not Traveler, because as the Archons and Alice said, Traveler is a witness.

I don't speak a _word_ of Swahili (I'm from the UK), yet Natlan's anthem inspires an intense feeling of national pride and patriotism for a place that doesn't actually exist.
Really feel this way after AQ act 4
you shall feel it after Archon Quest 5.4. Fight for Natlan!
Same here. I'm a big coward, I run from any danger but in that moment during Act 4 I felt like I would gladly give my life for Natlan
Same thing with me with Attack on Titan
Because this is a war song they are designed like this. So that you feel patriotic. They use the same thing in the real world too.
I find it ironic how throughout Genshin's storyline, Natlan is the region with the least information we had from when we were in the previous regions, yet it is Natlan's OSTs that is the most informative as it incorporates vocals with lyrics that tell the stories of Natlan. Wonderful masterpieces!
They need to live up to the hype of the most mysterious nation... And they went beyond
Well tbf other regions had stuff with lyrics too, but mainly bosses, not just in general yea
Makes sense, these cultures have long held the tradition of oral storytelling so I was hoping for something like this.
I think this is the first nation where we got a literal anthem for the main OST. Considering Natlan is in constant war with the abyss, it make sense.
@@emilyjackson2055 >oral storytelling<
y'know, i hadn't thought about it that hard, but now that you mention it, it completely makes sense why there's so much singing in the natlan themes
Sorry, by shown, i mean in the game 💀💀💀
@@Vinadet

@@hiddendrifts They used Swahili language for this (a popular Eastern African language mostly in Tanzania and Kenya)

me too Im from china I like El Condor Pasa
I cried and id never even seen some of these instruments before!! So incredible
I'm not from your culture but as a fellow latinamerican I was also excited when I listened and saw the instruments.
Right? Knowing the potential of such beautiful instruments as quena and zampoña I couldn't help it but think maybe the composers could have used them in a more epic way at some parts of the songs, but still I'm so happy to see they made such amazing songs including them! This is true art.
Come back here after the War.
Natlan No Tameni!
The first song absolutely HAS to feature in the main quest, theres got to be an incredibly dramatic and heartfelt moment where this plays in all its glory!!
I imagine this being played as we enter the Coliseum of the Sacred Flame, like the anthem before the battle begins!
Agree!! I had a feeling that the first song will be use in the climax of the story soon...i mean, the music itself, and especially the lyrics, not only telling us about the information of the story, but also like some motivational words for Traveler and Natlan's tribes in facing the Abyss

It’s not Native American , it’s meso American from Latin America and it’s not ok how they’re just mushing our cultures together when they’re completely different
If you wanna pull a “I ain’t readin all of that” than what I said is summarized in these points:
- the more cultures, the bigger the region, each spot in the region has a group of similar culture
- so many soundtracks in one region, cultures can shine in a certain soundtrack
- people from various cultures are happy

This is beautiful omg
@@jujutsuingi think this is just wrong. I am also a Poc and while i absolutely love the music of Natlan I have to say il just really dissapointed with the character designs for Natlan and in genshin in general
The lack of skin tone variety just makes a lot more designs boring.
That is truly beautiful

im north african and i had my time with the sumeru ost, one of the greatest modern days musical pieces ever written, but i have to admit that natlan’s ost surpassed sumeru’s.
Fr, these two tracks moved the African spirit in me, I've never felt this way before.

❤❤❤❤❤
this is one of the reasons why i will love this game forever..
Anyways I had to cry when she mentioned that. xD
I think music like this is so powerful since it matches the theme of Natlan, which is War (oppression by colonizers), Death (the people's heroes martyring one by one to try and protect in the face of superior firepower), and Rebirth (their stories and spirit living on so the next generations can help revive the nations that were wiped out).
Ushujaa waangaza mbingu na ardhi
Mara tena ashinda Natlan
The music shows that the war in this nation is not about the misery, death, and chaos of the battlefield, but rather the struggle, the glory, and the vivid, optimistic way of life. I literally got tears in my eyes when hearing this.
Mexico's hymn is something like that it talks about defending our nation, and all the motherland sons bringing glory with them after the battle and even the ones who perished will have it.
"Fight to death, may the winner takes all" - it's truely touching
I'm actually about to cry
6:29 when they said "Shujaa" in harmony and the chorus flows in it gave me chills

I don't know if I got so moved because I'm part of these cultures and I felt proud seeing them perform, or the lyrics hit hard because somehow it reminds me of what our natives have gone through, or maybe it's just these artists pouring their hearts in these songs and touching the souls of those who are listening.
