    Human+ is designed as a Help mechanic for if you ever get stuck constantly failing missions at somepoint in the game.. you'll be sent back to the start of the game but you'll have an easier time with the bonuses.. the enemies don't get easier you get stronger.. a fromsoft staple..

    Regarding the thing about the indoor lvl's that let you go in with your mech, Armored Core's originally where not designed as weapons, but as multipurpose tools, military use came later, that's why many structures are designed with AC's in mind, because they where build with AC's, if you take a look, some of the weapons are actually construction tools, like pile bunker's to crush through rocks and other stuff, in later AC games, some AC enemies/allies you will find are just barely modified civilan AC's.

      Well, the MTs were originally multipurpose tools. ACs basically standardized the combat MT template and grew out from there, and I think that's the same in all 3 timelines currently. There is hilariously a _NEXT_ in ACFA that's basically a purpose built construction/demolition machine though.

    • @Direwolf13PS3
      @Direwolf13PS3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      MTs - Muscle Tracers were effectively exosuits for civilian use, particularly construction and engineering work.
      ACs - Are effectively the military application of the technology.
      Essentially the difference between Tractors and Tanks early on. In Gen 4 Nexts are introduced and are even more powerful, with MT's resembling AC's from Gen 3.

    Something I wish you'd mentioned is the optional first person camera: Hold Triangle + Square + Start during a mission (can't remember if you have to pause first or not). It feels like a whole different game. There is also a drop camera you can place where ever you'd like to make some cinematic shots: While playing press Circle + X + Start.

    Beat all three with 0 Human+, used a quad for the sweet back weapons until project phantasma gave me the Ultra-heavy generator so I switched to a heavy biped. I was really disappointed after fighting Necron because Tiamat was MUCH harder. Right before Nine-Ball Seraph I was experimenting with a light AC. Used a super-sniper to cheese the 3 before Seraph only for it to absolutely demolish me. Went back to the heavy with a karasawa and the hidden back missiles from AC1. Crushed Seraph so hard I thought the cutscene was him transitioning to a second phase lmao. Great games for a PS1, really kinda bummed I didn't have this game back then.

  • @b1gl0s3r

    To anyone getting into the series or otherwise playing the ps1 AC games, I highly suggest playing without H+ for your first playthrough. While the games aren't generally difficult, it does make it more of an honest challenge. The arena is 2-3x more difficult to clear if you don't have access to H+ if only for the reduced boost cost.
    Oh, and one thing that was missed is that you can ignore weight limits if you've cleared a certain percentage of the first game and carries over if you use that save file. I'm not sure what the percentage is.

    • @n1trodogg
      @n1trodogg 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yeah, that mission is insane. It's the punishment for taking all the easier, but more immoral missions when forced to choose. If you take the harder, but more ethical missions throughout the game, you get a much, much easier final mission.

    • @Khorvalar
      @Khorvalar 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I remember my roommate took the evil route in that game and got the hard final mission, I helped him beat it by using a back mounted cannon that could one-shot the ACs but only had like 5 shots, so I could only miss once! I eventually beat every ending, unlocked the highest output generator, and built a mech that could over-boost forever! Not even kidding, that game was a lot of fun! :D

    Old school ACs were very op. Something shown in AC2A. As for the ACMoA back story. It's in the manual, which old games from that generation did. It was decent enough, it was just your basic story of a dude destroyed your home and family so you choose to go get revenge. Just to finally see there more to world then just your revenge. It was also meant to be a retelling of the original. Just with a story this time. Other than oh you are mercenary, have fun.

    15:30 In Armored Core all the way up to Last Raven, you can access the map. The limits of the map is determined by the head. Some heads have no map. Some heads only remember what you have explored. And some heads, which are best in missions like this, have a complete map for you to use. It is especially useful in these maze and dungeon like levels, and in Nexus and Last Raven's case, in the event your head has no night vision.

    this series makes AesirAesthetic look like a fucking hack. He didn't even bother to do separate videos for early/late 3rd gen, and only talked about the numbered entries.
    You're a real one and after having watched all of these intently, I have to say, it's fuckin' criminal that you have a fraction of that dudes audience.
    Just the fact that you said both that you're "not really *into* stories in videos games," however you "didn't read the wiki for any of this information, it just came from playthroughs." That alone puts you above like 90% of the entire video game TH-cam ecosystem. I really appreciate the effort you've gone through for all this.
    Plus, you speak normal English too so that's always a bonus.
    Regardless of me hating on other 'Tubers, you really did a great job with these. I've always been the only AC snob in my real life friends circles and these videos have been infinitely validating for me personally. I'm really happy with how you touched on virtually every single feature added and removed, as well as some that were only ever considered.
    This series should be considered a masterclass in how to make an in-depth series of analysis of an entire franchise, literally on par with Noah Gervais. Good job bro.

    "Disc 2 arenas are not something to cover"
    Like, DUDE, the number of arenas in this game is higher than half of the franchise put together, and you need to be UNDEFEATED if you want to unlock the final arena with the best pilots. I did that without using human+ or no overweight cap (I did not have the first game) and I did not cheese it with height glitch. It shaped me as a player in both in-game aspect and gamer in general. The game truly grinds you to mastery and I love it for it. The last AC game that I could play was AC3 and I can only wish that they introduced more arena content, OR if it allowed us to have custom arena much like MoA did - we build enemy ACs to pilot against. Boy oh boy was that fun. You don't find content to cover there? I have enough to talk hours about it :P
    Well, could've. I was very young when I played this, but I still remember the ordeal.

      @@aboveaveragegaming6120 iirc, there are four "legs" arenas, developer arena (where every or many developers built their ACs), and I think one or two more along with Master(?) Arena.
      But there was also Custom Arena where we could build custom ACs for AI to pilot against us. It was really fun! I built some crazy ACs and then on one very humbling occasion I put together an AC with the most basic weapons and parts and it DESTROYED me with that starting rifle! He shot it so fast at me while airborne the force of the rifle stunned / rooted me in place, followed with blade attacks, then if I managed to get away he sniped me with rockets or missiles with uncanny precision. My own custom, most basic built AC stomped my ass! WHAT?!?! Lil dude gave me more trouble than the final AC in the game did.
      But, yeah, the second disc was amazing. I re-visited it back after I got my hands on the first game (it was years later) with no-overweight and human+ unlocked and while it felt good to shove back cannons up their arses, it didn't feel as fulfilling after doing the game "normal" way.

    regarding the fight with carson and its AI.
    carson primarily focuses on dodging / getting away from you, until at least one of your weapons has fully depleted its ammo. at which point they become hyper aggressive with their weapons, as indicated by their description. "waits patiently for his opponent to expend all their ammo, then attacks". the issue though is that the fight will usually be ended before running out of ammo on any weapons, and indoors arenas make their defensive play style fall apart quick.
    can verify the ai works like that from my own experience running out of mortar ammo on them

    9 Breaker does not equal Arena Champion. It's a reference to 9 Ball, the legendary AC of Hustler One who stood longer than anyone at top of the Raven's rankings until he vanished without a trace and only appears as a thing in the titular Armored Core Nine Breaker game. The truth being he was always an AI Controlled pilot/ac that once the player character defeat the AI systems that controlled him ends his rain.

    1. Hustler one seems to have noticed you because (and note that this isn't really explained in the game) the player character is after hustler one because he killed his family as being a casualty during a mission.

    This is an awesome video.
    So, I'm gonna comment on each game covered.
    For Armored Core 1, I largely agree with all of your points. I will say, I overall think the PS1 trilogy is overall really easy, even without Human Plus. Human Plus just makes things a little easier. The inclusion of hidden parts in various missions provides some decent replayability back in the day, but nowadays is just a time waster. Thankfully you only have to collect the part, unlike in later games. The controls are definitly the games biggest sticking point for newbies. Even as a Armored Core vet, I have to relearn the controls when I go back to replaying the original trilogy. Thankfully, the best way to play these games is available via emulaters, which allows you to map the move and looking controls to the joysticks. Makes the games way more playable that way. Honestly out of all the original trilogy games, my favorite is this one. One more thing about Armored Core 1, is when you 100% the game, you unlock the ability to make your AC overweight and overenergy. Meaning you can stack up your mech however you want, regardless of the weight or energy requirements. This feature is also in both Project Phantasma and Master of Arena, once you 100% both of those games. It's a neat little feature that doesn't get brought up very often.
    Project Phantasma is definitely the weakest of the original trilogy, but it's still a decent game. Same controls issue, but that can be fixed via emulator. The Arena is cool, and a very much appreciated feature, although I do think having 50 opponants is a bit much. The lower like, 20 opponants could be cut and the arena experience would be greatly improved. The one thing I greatly dislike about Project Phantasma, is that both Sumika's and Stinger's AC parts are unavailable for the player to use. Sumika's I can kinda understand, since she's just using a pink model of an enemy from AC1, but Stinger is straight up using unique AC parts. Except for his boosters, but he is otherwise using a completely unique AC. Thankfully you get to use his parts in Last Raven.
    Master of Arena is, interesting. It's story is what leads up to Armored Core 2, although it's actual canonocity is a bit, opaque. You can replace Master of Arena with AC1, and the story of AC2 won't change. Anyway, the focus on Nineball as the main antagonist is a double edged sword. If the player is invested in defeating Nineball, then great. If not, it comes across as a bit pointless. Especially if you're playing it via emulation without the context from the manual. In the manual, it states that you're player character joined the Ravens Nest to become a raven, specifically to get a chance at hunting down and killing Nineball, who killed your family prior to the events of the game. That context is lost if you only ever played it via emulation.
    Now, onto the Arena side of things. The focuse on more Arena style gameplay is again a double edged sword. If you enjoy the arena gameplay of the Gen 1 games, then great. If you don't, it's a slog to get through. And the extra disc has SO MANY ARENA OPPONANTS! I enjoy the arena aspect of the game, but even I find it very repetitive by the end of it all. However, there is a silver lining to it all. The Arena Maker part of the extra disc is SO MUCH FUN. It's really fun creating your own arena opponenats. I've put hundreds of hours into creating various mechs from other franchises into it, as well as remaking future ACs in it.
    Anyway, a very nice, enjoyable video. I hope my comment provides some insight from an Armored Core veteran.

    Knee-high..... to an Armored Core. In which Pilots fit spaciously inside of the head. So the water is several full-grown adults in depth. At least 3 AC heads' worth. Which are probably about 1 and a half adult male height. So, nearly 18 feet deep. We build bridges for less irl lol.

The water would probably only reach up 1/3 of the vehicle meaning the water is probably around 4' high. How tall is the bridge they're constructing compared to the water? • @SynysterProjects
      @SynysterProjects ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@aboveaveragegaming6120 the animosity wasn't necessary. I simply thought I remembered a snip of footage from an AC game in which an x-ray of the head showed seating for the pilot. I just assumed the bridge was massive because the vehicles being used were massive compared to irl vehicles. I'd say it's fair to assume pilots were seated in the head, or the chest, as that's where most mech games and shows have their pilots seated, and one of AC's clear influences, Mobile Suit Gundam, is no different. It's also fair to assume that AC's are roughly to scale to MS' in Gundam. That being, absolutely massive. I was simply pointing out that we build bridges over 5-8 feet of water sometimes, so it's not all that ridiculous to think they'd build this bridge if my head canon scaling was even remotely accurate.
