Thank you for taking the time to do this for us! I am new to teaching 4th grade. I came to quickly realize that small groups in elementary school are very different than middle school… this video really helped and added value to me as an educator!!!
I am starting to teach guided reading in the fall for the 1st time. This video is incredible. This instructor breaks things down better than any teacher I have seen thus far and I have seen a bunch! She makes the subject very accessible and gives me more hopeful that I will be successful. Thank you!
I follow most of the steps outlined in this video in my reading groups with my ENL students but I'd like to know how/when you recommend doing read aloud vs silent reading in the group and talking together afterward. I have a group of very beginning readers, and they can't get through a text independently without choral repetition or whole group reading aloud. I have a higher level group and still do read aloud (take turns among students with everyone else tracking with their fingers as they listen). Do you/how often do you vary it? Thanks!
Hey! Thank you so much for this video. It was so informative! I just had a few questions. For guided reading, are the texts decodable texts for all groups? Also, when you’re working with the group of struggling readers, what kinds of tasks do you assign to the other groups? Lastly, are the main texts in the book’s modules ever used in guided reading? I teach second language learners so the main texts are difficult and all of the students have a hard time with it. How do you recommend running a class with the module story? Would you recommend a read-aloud session for that with oral questions about the genre or story elements, for example? So sorry for all the questions! I really want to give my students the best. Your advice is invaluable 🥹 thank you!
I understand you may not need to meet with every student every time however even high flyers can struggle with certain skills. So I would meet only when needed but would assume because they're proficient readers they wont need assistance.
What other things do you put inside of the book club notebooks? Do you have one that is completed? I am trying to prepare my guided reading groups and don't know where to start. Thanks!
Hi Tracy, I use everything that comes in that guided reading package that I purchased on TPT (mostly word activities). The link to the resource I purchased is in the description of this video if you were interested :).
I found this video super helpful. Was a good reminder of tools to use and how to organize guided reading groups. Thank you!

Hello!
Do you use Karen Jones G.R. resources for all your groups, or just your lower groups?!
I use it primarily with my lower groups. My upper groups I focus more on reading comprehension strategies :)
@@3peaksclassroom awesome, thank you!
I wish you sold the binder
@@alexa3322 not my own resource but I mention where to grab it in the video
I’m a momma who is looking for suggestions for my kiddo - all of these “extra” things would be so very distracting. 😬
Hey there! Can you give me a bit more detail about the “extra things”?
Ugh…you lost me at F&P😢
I know - my district and school have also moved away from F&Ps - time for me to film an updated video 😅
