For what its worth. My dad built a h case into a 1679 with dual kadrons 009 and headers. He pulled a small trailer to shows for 10 years. While its not the best case it was good enough. Lots of smiles per mile.
That’s some good information, Mike. I’m learning as I go along, all cases, are not created equal. With the price of a new case, we have to consider these oddball cases. 👍
My 69 single cab has an H case with the oil filter cover adapter. When I rebuilt the top end the #1 upper right head stud pulled out. Although I fixed it with an oversized case saver and it has run fine these past four years, overall I’m unhappy with this engine. I hope to replace it someday with a new universal case.
Single cabs, I love them! I believe the “H” is period correct for it , but was wondering if a single cab would’ve come with a “B” case? Either way, good job make the best of what you had…that’s what VW guys do😎, and the price of new cases are ridiculous. Thanks for the info and opinion from your experience.
@@bomberobus period correct, yes, but obviously not original since it’s a bug case. I’ll keep rolling with it until it requires a rebuild ( or I win the lottery 😁).
same here, except I haven't pulled any studs. I recently did a video where I show all the drama I went through just to get the H case to work with my adapter for the mustache bar and doghouse cooler.
There you go. Gettin' er done. excellent information for us less knowledgeable. I didn't know anything about that but makes a lot of sense. I think I have an H case. Probably why my engine runs so hot. It's probably got several cracks and my rod bearings are loose. Gonna invest in a new case eventually. Not sure if I'm gonna go aluminum or magnesium. Maybe I'll get one of those Mexican cases. I spotted the stickers on the side window. Looking good my friends. Can't wait to catch the next video. I gotta start working on editing my next video soon.
It’s a tough decision…I don’t know which case I’d buy either. I appreciate some aspects of both the magnesium and aluminum, but am too unfamiliar with the aluminum. Those stickers are rad, man we love ‘em!
Good info Mike. 68-69 H cases , they made alot of them . Used em in buggys back in the late 70s early 80s. For low speed/rpm like a light buggy , they work. Got an orginal 69 that was reringed! Its going in a full size pan /fibreglas buggy with reduction boxes, cranked front axle, 88mm thick tops, ported single portheads, 2bbl. bugspray & exhaust at approx. 8-1 comp. Very low miles, bottom end tight! I ll let you know how she goes .Cheers from B.C.Can.
Hey Jimmy! So you had a #3, I had a #4, and another guy had a #1. The #3 doesn’t surprise me as much as the other ones. Luckily I had an AE case for the 1800 I built. But I dream of a brand new case one day 🤩
Yup, according to the codes it’s either a ‘73 or ‘74 1600 for 46 HP. They’re known to be really good cases…considering they’re still old LOL. Since your Ghia is a ‘74 that’s perfect!
A " B" case is the early version of the type1 1600- which was a single port 1970. A 71 has the new case& dual port heads.

Appreciate the testimony Troy. Props to your Dad! My brother runs a 1679 with a B case. He got some dual 40’s working with it and the thing rips.

Yes sir, they are proud of those new cases.

That is awesome! Sounds like a fun little Buggy combo, and I’ve enjoyed the thick wall 88’s. For sure I’d like to know how it goes! 🤙🏼
Hey Mike ! I had one that on #3 lower left it was cracked at the head stud just like that one , thats when I started to buy new cases .

Nice information. 👍
So my 74 Ghia has an AH case is it the same? I may have to
1- watch video again
2- research it
Thanks for the info👍🇩🇪

@@bomberobus I think I'm lucky and have an AH case in my bug.
@@SanDiego_VDubLife sweet. I always see the letter H first. Then I’m looking for an A to be in front of it HAHA.
