    love watching your work on the air cooled bug motors. I went thru 2 engines in my bus and got tired of the buddy deals...found a guy who built racing motors and he handed me a block with the internals (steel serts for the studs as well) all there. I had to add jugs and heads and TLC and that ol bus ran great even for a coupla years after I sold it. I thought buyer was gonna fix the sloppy steering but he didn't and fortunately for the rest of us he hit a guardrail (nothing or nobody else) and ended the ol bus' existence. heck he sold the motor for what he paid me for the whole thing. (G) mmmm....mayonnaise chocolate short block.

    Thanks for showing the taper cone for quick bore location, learned a trick!

    i wonder if the removal of.material weakens the head stud threads and what do you do to compensate

    Do you deck it again after installing the case savers?

    Usually I would think this would be done with a dial indicator that was in a collet for locating centers. The taper cone would be for only a visual locator?

      and centering it against old RTV to boot. Id be pissed if thats how a machine shop set my bore centers and I used to build high hp aircooled motors. It may just be an old VW engine, but that could "just" be a Meztger case Porsche as well.

      The machinist in the video is deceased, so your opinion is irrelevant....

      Built over 500 engines and machines 3 times that. Crankshaft end play and rod end play is so much that you could eyeball or use a tape measure to get center and be just fine. They even sell after market bore and flycut devices you bolt to the case and attach to a drill motor for the back yard machinist. The bore is very forgiving. NOW,... Align bore and rear main thrust cut is different and must be calipered perfect.

    • @mastermatt289
      @mastermatt289 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@themedic4050 yea that cut can be +/-.10mm to allow it room to adjust to the cut heads.

    I need this service to put a sert of 92 in my block the block is at 94 but I cant find a cylinder set that mesure 94 so I need to have my case machined tried to call but no answer.

    Are you guys able to cut barrels? I need a set of 90.5 barrels cut at the base down to 94.4 +/-.10mm

  • @ejasburyiii9287

    On these motors, when you deck the case, do you lower the jug into the case, effectively increasing compression? The stoke remains a constant, but the cylinder and head is now .012 closer to the crankshaft centerline?

    • @fiatnutz
      @fiatnutz  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, .006 on each side.

    • @t.s.racing
      @t.s.racing 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      EJ, you Sir are correct. Without changing the crankshaft centerline, the amount the block is decked, is equal to the amount of piston deck height changed. It will be. 012" on both sides. It doesn't matter if the block configuration is a V, W, or L design.

    I came here to see how a case was opened for larger jugs.
    I thin I just seen "how not to cut for jugs."
    7:50 ... you could see nothing was centered.
    A shame, because he had the digital readout.
    And surely the shop had a 25 buck edge finder.

    Doesn't look like much holding the case savers inplace. Makes you wonder how it holds. But they do.
