Software should be in addition to, not a requirement to run games. DLSS is fine but their is noticeable drop in quality especially in high resolutions. You should be buying the hardware when you buy a GPU not an artificial price gate to get DLSS 2.0 or 3.0. That's a problem. You are essentially buying a software suite for the price instead of a piece of hardware. Considering they are raising the prices every year and giving you less hardware and compensating with software. It's supposed to be an addition to, not a requirement for the gimped overpriced hardware to actually function normally.
I am a guy with an extremely high tolerance to play games in 30fps, so seeing that I could boot up games like HDII or even Horizon on max settings, which both are VERY demanding games and easily get above 40fps WITHOUT DLSS makes me extremely happy, 3060 as of right now is truly the best GPU you can own as a casual gamer, it's affordable and is a phenomenal successor to GTX 1060
If you already have the 3060 and you've been having fun playing games on it over the last few years then I totally agree. It's a great GPU! However, it's different if one is looking to buy it new in 2024. It depends on the region I guess. The 3060 price is still almost the same as the RTX 4060 in the US. Here in the UK there's around £25 difference which is not that massive either. I'd like the RTX 3060 to be cheaper. It's too much to ask for a previous-gen GPU that is significantly less powerful than the RTX 4060.

If I want to buy a 3060 12gb I have to first buy 1080ti from my friend and then sell it and add like $10 more dollars to get a 3060 12gb. Anything under 29 FPS isn't going to ruin your playthrough, most of the videos we see online today on our phones are 29 FPS, we used to play barely 30 FPS in PS4 era, so we kinda grew greedy, as each 10 FPS you gain from 30 FPS is going to take a huge amount of strength from a GPU, the closer you are to 30, the harder is for it to push it up. But any experience that averages around 35 FPS and drops to maybe 22-25 FPS and rockets above 30 FPS is quite playable, as you are not going to get the 25 FPS everywhere, CP2077 Path Tracing w/DLSS Quality on i3 12100F does that, and swapping it to balanced, +5FPS in the lows, and performance jumps it up at least 15 FPS from the lows, except dogtown, you wont have framedrops but since its a small area I enabled DLSS performance, in CP, DLSS only harms the far distance looks, makes it kinda sketchy but for near almost nothing and textures have the same quality, AMD FG is there to compensate for the relatively lower speed because of the 12GB VRAM pool, and there is also lossless scaling as well. 6700XT though much faster, isn't going to change my mind because of DLSS and stronger RT/PT performance I want those options, and I'm willing to pay more Sure many hate Nvidia, but we can't deny their tech is insane, just they're expensive, unless you are talking about an AMD 7900 XT

DLSS Quality at 1080p feels worse than the already far from ideal 1080p native. If you are used to 1080p then you may not notice that much of a difference. You dont need 60fps constistently, as long as it feels smooth and works then its fine. As long as it does not dip below 40fps in a single player title its fine. If its multiplier then its a different story but for the most part single player games dont need 60fps and does not need ultra settings. Medium to high settings is more than enough without wasting fps for 5% visual increase.
40-29 is tolerable but anything under 29 is intolerable, we see most videos on phone/pc on internet at 29FPS, so we aren't going to notice a strong issue unless below that mark

I have 3060 12gb paired with ryzen 5700x and i can max out pretty much any game at native 1080p alan wake 2, avatar, cyberpunk phantom liberty are exceptions lol but it is still a very capable card

You can use nukem9 frame gen mod for all Rtx gpus. I am using it in my rtx3070 laptop and at 1600p I get 90/100 fps high setting with dlss on quality mode.
My EVGA GTX 1070 died last night, puff of smoke, short circuit I'm guessing. Thankfully psu cut power automatically and didn't damage motherboard. Well, I hope not, we shall see. Didn't even use it much over the years, and I installed the thermal pad mod that EVGA sent out to customers. now I don't have a PC all I can do is use my phone to try and shop for a new gpu. I use windows 7 for emulators and 4060 is not compatible with windows 7 (no driver) so I am forced to buy 3060 but they are almost all sold out and bad value for money compared to 4060. I don't want EVGA again cause I don't trust it. Had an MSI before that which also died. Asus are extortionists, so I wanted gigabyte but such bad value for their decent gaming model (windforce version has crap cooler). So Now I'm back to looking at MSI again
I have a 3060 as well but the frames really tank in helldivers 2 when theres 4 players with tons of automatons, explosions etc to 15-20fps at times and others with even faster setups have been experience those massivw drops.this js on 1080p. I've tried low, medium, high and ultra and it seems to get worse after recent updates
Yup I also have this situation, I think the game got worse in pc performance in latest patches. Especially in new map gacrux, with only one bug breach and my 3060 gets crushed from 60fps to 20-30fps. My CPU is R5-5600, the game suddenly gets so much CPU bound. My game settings are High texture and everything else is low.
@@funkyboy1190 the last patch has improved the game performance a lot, and the game feels smoother like it used to be in April or something. Probably except the jungle maps where it's CPU bound a lot with those big, long trees.

If you are playing with Gsync I think it's ok to have some lows of 45fps like when you were looking at the foliage, as long as the frame times are consistent and not stuttering, for me personally that wouldn't bother me.

i bought mine for around 274 us dollars (converting from my countries currency), paired up with a ryzen 5600 and i think it was a great deal! playing demanding games isnt my goal, i would rather dip into programs like blender and davinci resolve and maybe play some indie titles. from all the nvidia gpus out there i think the rtx3060 is the perfect one for the casual consumer
with AMDs FSR 3.1 out and horizon forbidden west got patched I made my old GTX 1070 playable at 1440p. using FSR 3.1 upscaling at performance preset, AMD framegeneration on and a combination of medium settings the game played at mostly above 60 fps and looked and felt quite good. Would be nice to see you retest this RTX 3060 with AMDs framegen in new horizon forbidden west
Indeed, that is a topic I'm looking forward to revisiting in the future. I hope AMD will do a better job at incentivising more game developers to include FSR 3.1 in all the latest games. That'd significantly prologue lifespan of GTX 10-series, RTX 20, as well as other older GPUs.

I have 3090, I skipped the 40 series because of the bad connector, I was not going to spend close 2 grand on something that had a chance of falling just because I might not of plugged the connector in right, I'm interested in what the 50 series has to offer and by now no one should buy a 4080 Super or even a 4090, with the 50 series rumored to be coming later this year...
The 5090 will be powerful. I have no doubt about it. I'm more interested in witnessing how close the 5080 will be to the 5090 in terms of performance and price🙂 It'll be a pleasure to use either one of them to play games at 4K with ray tracing enabled. I'm even thinking about putting my Alan Wake 2 playthrough on hold until I can get my hands on one of them next-gen GPUs to play this game properly with maxed out graphics and high FPS.
I run a Rog Strix 4060 TI 16 GB on a 34" Ultrawide @ 1440 and get great frames on most everything on ultra, I am running a small o.c. on the card. I'm quite happy with it, but the price was too high at the time.
4060 Ti 16GB is still way to expensive imho🙂 But getting an 8GB version is definitely a big no-no😄 Lesser of two evils I guess. Anyhow, everything is good as long as you're enjoying the performance in games you play.

For me, specs don't matter. Only experience matters. What's also interesting here is that in your 'Don't Buy Until You See This! RTX 4060 vs RTX 3060 12GB in 2024' video you show that on the RTX 4060 you can play with very high settings at native 1080p with no upscaling and still keep around 60 fps on that card. So at least in this game the RTX 4060 is a good ties up VS the RTX 3060.
It worths it cause rtx 4060 and rx 6600xt are in general really close to performance but 3060 has 12 gigs of vram . But honestly if you find rx 6700xt at that price then go for it
what about Lossless Scaling's frame generation? I'd imagine it would work perfectly fine with this card. Actually it works with all graphics cards, you should check it out.
I was contemplating it. But then scrapped this idea and returned the RTX 3060. It feels wrong to promote the 3060 if it needs third-party software to make it a decent choice in 2024. There is no guarantee that good support will be provided and maintained if it isn't done by NVIDIA. It's a cool software though.

@@theivadim I bought Lossless Scaling for my Steam Deck (before selling it) to upscale games when I had Windows installed on it and this was prior to them adding frame gen to the app. This program has gotten many updates since, I think it has pretty good support. The fact that it works on all graphics cards and for all games makes it a worthy investment imo.

That is brutal for budget-conscious buyers. I really don't like the RTX 3060 for playing the latest games. It's too weak in 2024. Its age is starting to show. The 3060 is close to 4 years old now. The RX 7600 or RTX 4060 provides a better experience. But if you are planning on buying it to play other kind of games then it might be worth it.
Nowadays we cant even play at constant 60fps on 1080p games at high settings on RTX3060 12gb. Shame on you Nvidia and all these AAA videogame industries. Nah, mine can run actual games very well. Cyberpunk for example is not a game, it's a graphics benchmarking software after you play the history. Forza Horizon 5 is well optimized and looks nice, runs on Ultra/Extreme mix at 80+ fps. It looks even better with DLSS Quality.
I'm glad that your 3060 is enough for your needs. In this case, I've showcased games that I actually play. And the 3060 falls a bit short since it can't handle them without help from DLSS. Frame generation could prolong its life. But sadly, NVIDIA will never bring it to RTX 30 series cards.

True. Upgrading from 27 inch 1080p to 1440p was very noticeable for me too. I'm now using the 32 inch 4K 144Hz VA monitor you see in this video. It was yet another very pleasant upgrade from 1440p. Surprisingly, I managed to make it work with an RTX 4070 SUPER I have in my personal PC. Not exactly a 4K gaming GPU by most people's standards. But the setup works thanks to DLSS and frame generation. At higher resolutions DLSS is great. I like pushing GPUs to their limits. That's why I'm interested in trying the RTX 3060 at 1440p next. I wonder if I'll be satisfied with what I find using the 3060 in the latest games.

Many people say that HFW is a greatly optimized game. But in reality, if you compare it to PS5 version, it does not look good for PC. 3060 is just a tad bit slower than PS5 GPU, yet it can barely provide 60 fps experience at 1080p/Medium. While PS5 offers locked 60 fps at 1800p/~High settings. It dynamically changes resolution, depending on a scene, but still even upscaled 1800p is much harder to run than native 1080p. So this particular game is not the best optimized one for PCs. These days 3060 can barely run modern games at native 1080p. And DLSS looks pretty bad at such a low res. So, unless you are OK with poor image quality or you are not going to play latest AAA games, 3060 is simply not fast enough, despite the fact that it is close to PS5 level of performance. What a pity many PC games are more demanding than console versions.
PC vs console has always been like that. There's way more optimisation happening for console because it's just on set of hardware. Easier to optimise for that. PC really shines when you start gaming at 4K. DLSS is great at that resolution. I've been using Balanced in some games with my 4070 SUPER at 4K and it looks surprisingly enjoyable while delivering brilliant performance. At 1080p only frame generation is helpful. And the 3060 doesn't have access to it. Unfortunately. Big L.
Well optimized comparatively with most recent released titles, there's room for improvement, like fps drop on npc heavy cutscenes, and burning shores area.
The RTX 4060/4060ti will get lower fps than this card because these games use more than 8GB of Vram most of the time, and the 4060 will suffer because of it’s 8GB limit
Amd it's not even using 12gb of Vram. Only using 8GB at 99% GPU load. Have you tried downloading the last drivers? Checked NVIDIA app? Put on max performance? That's no good for a desktop 3060. I think PS5 is better, what you think? GPUs are waste of money comparing to Console.

1440p DLSS Quality sets the game at 960p. 1440p DLSS Balanced sets the game at 830p(even balanced dlss looks good on 1440p).

I mean Alan Wake 2 turned the 4090 into a 1080 experience at max settings so there is no way a 3060 would be able to perform as well.
I've completed Alan Wake 2 in 1080p, DLSS using my 3060 12Gb, believe me we don't need 2 4090s and 4K Ultra settings to enjoy games

have been usong 3060 evga xc like 2 years and not change it for anything one of the latest evga gpu's awesome
My EVGA GTX 1070 died last night, puff of smoke, short circuit I'm guessing. Thankfully psu cut power automatically and didn't damage motherboard. Well, I hope not, we shall see.
Didn't even use it much over the years, and I installed the thermal pad mod that EVGA sent out to customers. now I don't have a PC all I can do is use my phone to try and shop for a new gpu.
I use windows 7 for emulators and 4060 is not compatible with windows 7 (no driver) so I am forced to buy 3060 but they are almost all sold out and bad value for money compared to 4060.
I don't want EVGA again cause I don't trust it. Had an MSI before that which also died. Asus are extortionists, so I wanted gigabyte but such bad value for their decent gaming model (windforce version has crap cooler).
So Now I'm back to looking at MSI again
If you lower the shadows to medium, you can already get a significant increase. At the same time, the shadows still look good.
I have a 3060 as well but the frames really tank in helldivers 2 when theres 4 players with tons of automatons, explosions etc to 15-20fps at times and others with even faster setups have been experience those massivw drops.this js on 1080p. I've tried low, medium, high and ultra and it seems to get worse after recent updates
Yup I also have this situation, I think the game got worse in pc performance in latest patches. Especially in new map gacrux, with only one bug breach and my 3060 gets crushed from 60fps to 20-30fps. My CPU is R5-5600, the game suddenly gets so much CPU bound. My game settings are High texture and everything else is low.

@@funkyboy1190 the last patch has improved the game performance a lot, and the game feels smoother like it used to be in April or something. Probably except the jungle maps where it's CPU bound a lot with those big, long trees.
Question, Im thinking of buying the same model that you showed in the video. How are the temps? Is MSI a good brand for gpu? I wont have to worry about the temps with this 3060 model?

If you are playing with Gsync I think it's ok to have some lows of 45fps like when you were looking at the foliage, as long as the frame times are consistent and not stuttering, for me personally that wouldn't bother me.

You haven't tick the box (Ray reconstruction) it may help a lot. DLSS Quality and Ray reconstruction. Try that.
i bought mine for around 274 us dollars (converting from my countries currency), paired up with a ryzen 5600 and i think it was a great deal! playing demanding games isnt my goal, i would rather dip into programs like blender and davinci resolve and maybe play some indie titles. from all the nvidia gpus out there i think the rtx3060 is the perfect one for the casual consumer

I say its on par with my GTX 1080 but comes with the modern upgrade you need in a card.
with AMDs FSR 3.1 out and horizon forbidden west got patched I made my old GTX 1070 playable at 1440p. using FSR 3.1 upscaling at performance preset, AMD framegeneration on and a combination of medium settings the game played at mostly above 60 fps and looked and felt quite good. Would be nice to see you retest this RTX 3060 with AMDs framegen in new horizon forbidden west
Indeed, that is a topic I'm looking forward to revisiting in the future. I hope AMD will do a better job at incentivising more game developers to include FSR 3.1 in all the latest games. That'd significantly prologue lifespan of GTX 10-series, RTX 20, as well as other older GPUs.

back in 2023 i upgraded from gtx 1060 6gb to rtx 3060 12gb and my pc spces r amd ryzen 5 2600x and 32gb 3000 ddr 4 ram
all i play is 1080p, not one that's into the eye candy graphics. as long as i can play is all that matter to me. i'm used to gaming on low spec pcs for many years.

I have 3090, I skipped the 40 series because of the bad connector, I was not going to spend close 2 grand on something that had a chance of falling just because I might not of plugged the connector in right, I'm interested in what the 50 series has to offer and by now no one should buy a 4080 Super or even a 4090, with the 50 series rumored to be coming later this year...
The 5090 will be powerful. I have no doubt about it. I'm more interested in witnessing how close the 5080 will be to the 5090 in terms of performance and price🙂 It'll be a pleasure to use either one of them to play games at 4K with ray tracing enabled. I'm even thinking about putting my Alan Wake 2 playthrough on hold until I can get my hands on one of them next-gen GPUs to play this game properly with maxed out graphics and high FPS.

I run a Rog Strix 4060 TI 16 GB on a 34" Ultrawide @ 1440 and get great frames on most everything on ultra, I am running a small o.c. on the card. I'm quite happy with it, but the price was too high at the time.
4060 Ti 16GB is still way to expensive imho🙂 But getting an 8GB version is definitely a big no-no😄 Lesser of two evils I guess. Anyhow, everything is good as long as you're enjoying the performance in games you play.

Older games were built with 8GB memory in mind anyway. I'd pick the more powerful GPU to get better performance and power-efficiency.

What's also interesting here is that in your 'Don't Buy Until You See This! RTX 4060 vs RTX 3060 12GB in 2024' video you show that on the RTX 4060 you can play with very high settings at native 1080p with no upscaling and still keep around 60 fps on that card. So at least in this game the RTX 4060 is a good ties up VS the RTX 3060.

Before getting my hand on a 4070 Super last month, i was still playing on a RTX 2060 and it was fine for 1080p, i guess a 3060 is still a good card.
It worths it cause rtx 4060 and rx 6600xt are in general really close to performance but 3060 has 12 gigs of vram . But honestly if you find rx 6700xt at that price then go for it

what about Lossless Scaling's frame generation? I'd imagine it would work perfectly fine with this card. Actually it works with all graphics cards, you should check it out.
I was contemplating it. But then scrapped this idea and returned the RTX 3060. It feels wrong to promote the 3060 if it needs third-party software to make it a decent choice in 2024. There is no guarantee that good support will be provided and maintained if it isn't done by NVIDIA. It's a cool software though.

@@theivadim I bought Lossless Scaling for my Steam Deck (before selling it) to upscale games when I had Windows installed on it and this was prior to them adding frame gen to the app. This program has gotten many updates since, I think it has pretty good support. The fact that it works on all graphics cards and for all games makes it a worthy investment imo.

@@theivadim yea, I was able to find a 3060 for $180. The 4060 being relatively new makes it difficult to find bargain deals. I tested a 4060 and really like the performance per watt of the card but not worth $200 more for the 3060 I found

I really don't like the RTX 3060 for playing the latest games. It's too weak in 2024. Its age is starting to show. The 3060 is close to 4 years old now. The RX 7600 or RTX 4060 provides a better experience. But if you are planning on buying it to play other kind of games then it might be worth it.

Nowadays we cant even play at constant 60fps on 1080p games at high settings on RTX3060 12gb. Shame on you Nvidia and all these AAA videogame industries. Nah, mine can run actual games very well. Cyberpunk for example is not a game, it's a graphics benchmarking software after you play the history.
Forza Horizon 5 is well optimized and looks nice, runs on Ultra/Extreme mix at 80+ fps. It looks even better with DLSS Quality.
I'm glad that your 3060 is enough for your needs. In this case, I've showcased games that I actually play. And the 3060 falls a bit short since it can't handle them without help from DLSS. Frame generation could prolong its life. But sadly, NVIDIA will never bring it to RTX 30 series cards.
@@theivadim Oh, just to add, I'm using a 1440p 165hz monitor. I had a 1080p before. The resolution upgrade is always more valuable than in-game graphics preset. Running very well as I said. which for me is 165fps+ in competitive and 60fps+ in other.
True. Upgrading from 27 inch 1080p to 1440p was very noticeable for me too. I'm now using the 32 inch 4K 144Hz VA monitor you see in this video. It was yet another very pleasant upgrade from 1440p. Surprisingly, I managed to make it work with an RTX 4070 SUPER I have in my personal PC. Not exactly a 4K gaming GPU by most people's standards. But the setup works thanks to DLSS and frame generation. At higher resolutions DLSS is great.
I like pushing GPUs to their limits. That's why I'm interested in trying the RTX 3060 at 1440p next. I wonder if I'll be satisfied with what I find using the 3060 in the latest games.

Many people say that HFW is a greatly optimized game. But in reality, if you compare it to PS5 version, it does not look good for PC. 3060 is just a tad bit slower than PS5 GPU, yet it can barely provide 60 fps experience at 1080p/Medium. While PS5 offers locked 60 fps at 1800p/~High settings. It dynamically changes resolution, depending on a scene, but still even upscaled 1800p is much harder to run than native 1080p. So this particular game is not the best optimized one for PCs.
These days 3060 can barely run modern games at native 1080p. And DLSS looks pretty bad at such a low res. So, unless you are OK with poor image quality or you are not going to play latest AAA games, 3060 is simply not fast enough, despite the fact that it is close to PS5 level of performance. What a pity many PC games are more demanding than console versions.
PC vs console has always been like that. There's way more optimisation happening for console because it's just on set of hardware. Easier to optimise for that. PC really shines when you start gaming at 4K. DLSS is great at that resolution. I've been using Balanced in some games with my 4070 SUPER at 4K and it looks surprisingly enjoyable while delivering brilliant performance. At 1080p only frame generation is helpful. And the 3060 doesn't have access to it. Unfortunately. Big L.
Well optimized comparatively with most recent released titles, there's room for improvement, like fps drop on npc heavy cutscenes, and burning shores area.
The RTX 4060/4060ti will get lower fps than this card because these games use more than 8GB of Vram most of the time, and the 4060 will suffer because of it’s 8GB limit
and the slower 128 bit bus the 3060 12GB has a 192 bit bus.
