    My friend and I played all the way through the PS1 game when it first came out. We finally completed everything through all that sweat, blood and tears. I think the worst moment was thinking we finally completed Coruscant, only for there to be a 'Part 2'.

      @@aamirrazak3467 I agree at least video game wise. We got Kotor1&2 and of course the original Battlefront games. I'm currently playing BF Renegade Squadron on the PSP and it's a solid game. I think you missed that the Dreamcast version has Ki-Adi-Mundi as an unlockable character. He's not in the PS1 version. He also has a purple lightsaber for some reason.

    • @danyelh.8630
      @danyelh.8630 2 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      Because before the attack of the clones movie came out, Ki-Adi Mundi had a purple lighstaber and Mace Windu a blue one in the comics.

      I highly recommend you to read the "Star Wars (1998): Republic", "Star Wars - Jedi Council: Acts of War" and "Star Wars: Jedi (Mace Windu, Shaak Ti, Aayla Secura, Count Dooku and Yoda)" comics, you'll not regret, I promise!
      In that comics, specifically the first arc from Republic, the ones made between 1998 to 2002, and Acts of War, the Jedi lightsabers' colors was very diversified. Adi Gallia and Even Piell had red lightsabers, Plo Koon had a yellow lightsaber, Yaddle had a orange lightsaber, Ki Adi Mundi and Saese Tiin had purple lightsabers and Mace Windu had a blue lightsaber, for examples.

    I played JPB on PS1 start to finish probably 200+ times. Easily my favorite game of that console generation. Loved unlocking crazy combos and writing them down on post-it notes. My brother and I played coop dozens of times. The platforming was frustrating but you can get good enough at it to not be bothered. The challenge and difficulty made it fun to replay. Some of my best video game memories.

      Steven, I couldn't have said it better myself! I had the same experience and it was one of my fave games as well. I think my only gripe was that Obi-Wan's special move could be blocked. If I remember correctly, everyone else's special was unblockable. Still though, it was amazing.

    • @Clark127x99

      Even though the game has rough edges I love it. Honestly the worst part I find about the platforming is being shot while platforming(which is what killed me the most out of everything in the game), just platforming ain't too bad. The last level isn't easy. I love plo Koon because of his powerful moves but he's too slow to beat maul in solo. I'm glad other people appreciate the game.

  • @jim-jamjamilio1709

    Two things I wish you had mentioned in addition to this excellent video:
    1. You fight darth maul at the end of Tatooine!
    2. The unlockable darth mauls are different in the different versions. On PS1, he’s the Tatooine single-blade version; on Dreamcast, he’s the final battle dual-bladed version. And on GBA, he’s final battle dual-bladed and doesn’t even appear on Tatooine.

    I was _really_ excited for this game! While I liked the original Ep1 game, I was disappointed with the lightsaber combat (as I imagine many others were). I remember going to video game stores and holding a copy in my hand several times before I could actually get it myself. When I finally got it I loved it, despite it being very difficult and never managing to finish it. I just kept restarting over and over again any playing as far as I could before the difficulty outdid me. The co-op mode was indeed a test of friendship - the friend I almost always played it with kept picking up all the healing items all the time, even when I needed them more than he did. And since he wasn't particularly bright he became very non-understanding and defensive when I insisted he'd let me get them, as if it was just some item collection hunt.

    • @elfo7
      @elfo7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's tunnel vision, in the end, if you recover more health because you need it more, you have more chances of beating or making it farther into the game. When I play with my sister she does the same, but she does it because she doesn't know how to play, she just sees items and picks them up.

    Obi-Wan’s Adventure has more in common with Zelda than Power Battles. Give the usual turnaround time for handhelds and how chaotic LucasArts were BTS far as how they’d greenlight projects, it’s more likely they just liked the sales of Adventure. It wouldn’t even be the weirdest outcome in SW handheld gaming - just look at The New Droid Army, which was supposed to be Diablo by way of Fable but ended up breaking canon -at George’s request-.

    We replayed it about a month ago and it was brutal, but we made it lol.
    Honestly after that, the Dreamcast version is super easy. Cars the sizes of buses and as you said, much better controls.

    I played this game on PS1. Completed it with my friend. It was hard, but in coop we had more fun than frustration. My go to characters was Obi-Wan and Plo Koon, my friend played Qui-Gon and sometime others. The last stage we played as Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon my friend died at the last battle with Darth Maul and I defeated him for this. It was a nice experience. We was disappointed with additional characters, especially with Maul using standard light saber. I think Dreamcast version have him with double saber like in final battle.
    Some years later I did try to replay the game and stuck for a long time on last boss of first level. I couldn't get past level 2. I still thing it's a good game despite a lot of flaws and coop is nice when you don't die from constantly falling in pits. But I never recommend it for people, who can barely tolerate any kind of difficulty gameplay.

    Definitely one of the best star wars games for the Playstation 1. One of the more recent times I played it, I kept a sheet for all the combos and force powers you can unlock for each character as you leveled them up. Super fun with lots of content but I still have yet to beat it co-op 😞 the farthest I ever got in 2 player was the the return to naboo level. Jedi Master mode combat is awesome.

    I can honestly say, me and my friend never made it past the first level. This game was really hard, especially for kids

    I actually only had the GBA version as a kid and didn't even realize there was a Dreamcast version that improved on the Playstation one. I'll just say, the platforming in the GBA Jedi Power Battles was every bit as nightmarish as the console versions. I remember in Theed especially there were parts where the perspective was just wonky enough that I could never figure out why I wasn't reaching certain platforms and kept falling to my death. Good times!

    I played this with my cousin when I was 7. I was that annoying youth that held us back. Did end up getting Obi-Wan’s Adventures when I was kid and beat that several times (microscopic flex.) Honestly would love to Play Jedi Power Battles again, especially since I’m pushing 30 and coming to the realization that these games I thought were so hard in my youth aren’t as difficult as I made them out to be. Though I don’t doubt the difficulty for this one remains.

    Power Battles has a lock-on function for combat. Makes hitting specific enemies much easier.
    I played through on PS1 with my brother when we were kids. Loved every minute.

    Looks like this game is getting a remaster with an additional 13 playable characters.
    Too bad they're just playable enemies instead of actual new characters. Imagine them adding more of the prequel era Jedi. That would have been awesome.

    Fuck yes!!! Jedi power battles was my favorite game as a kid. The PS1 game though doesn’t hold up well today (besides the opening). Only found out a few months back a Dreamcast version existed. Wasn’t aware a third one existed.
    Edit: Yeah before I forget, thanks for mentioning it.

    Man, this takes me back to 2002, when my best friend back then and I used to play this all night long. In the beginning it was painful but then once we got the hang of it, we managed to beat it three times in a single night, using different characters. I still play it from time to time on my PC.

    I once went over to my older cousin's house (distant relatives, we were kinda just getting to know them when I was 10), and he was playing this. I thought it was so cool. I had a SNES and our DOS computer (with nothing but shareware) at home. It was blowing my mind that you could have this cool 3d version of Obi-Wan and the other Jedi running around takijg out droids on your TV. It was like magic. And I was only 10, so I *really* thought Episode 1 was cool. That cousin also watched DBZ and played electric guitar. I was in awe of how cool his life was, lol.

    I remember playing the PS1 version when I was a youngling. 6 years old, I think. I didn't have a Memory Card so I had to start over the damn game. I remember it being truly hard due to the stupid jumps.
