I think it was a lazy or rushed character port, like what happened with The Original Trilogy when you could unlock all the characters from the previous game if you had a file from it on your memory card.
I remember being so disappointed when everyone with a blaster just had the same blaster with the same sound effect and blaster bolt color... and even more disappointed when it was again overlooked or not a priority in The Complete Saga, yet at the same time they went to the trouble of giving the older characters melee attacks and projectile dodges with custom animations.

    • @jasonsudeikis26
      @jasonsudeikis26 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

probably had to rewrite or use a new engine, I heard TT made their own engines, which probably broke/lost a lot of little details. Like the MANY sounds that just don't play. That bothers me even more and I have been going through the game's files trying to wrap my head around how it works and what could've possibly broke the code. If anybody has any idea on how to go about that, I'd love to know.

It feels so weird to see people experience these changes backwards as they grew up with The Complete Saga.
I can not properly express the joy me and my friends felt seeing the Prequel Levels updated with the newer mechanics introduced in The Original Trilogy.
    Vehicles were now rideable.
Purple Studs were added to a few levels.
    They made the podrace easier.
They added a 6th level to Episode 2 to make use of the newer vehicle stuff.
I am still sad though that Yoda lost his chair as they just reused his OT moveset. With Yoda looking identical, there wasn't a point in having separate versions.

@@0DRONZER Not as much as you would think. First, tie in games were usually released before the accompanying media to drum up sales why they were still relevant, and in order to meet a deadline of before/close to the movie, they had to be developed during early production of the film. We also lived in a very different age for spoilers ( I talk like I was privy to this shit but I was 3 when the first game came out) where they were a lot less impactful, since franchises weren't booming like the MCU. Hell, I'm pretty sure I've seen 1980 news recordings of the Vader twist being shown in opening weekend box office reports. Back on the point though, Revenge of the Sith was at a time where spoilers were less problematic than they are today, and also had a very clear set of things to tackle as the last in release order but middle in chronological order; Anakin has to become a Sith and get injured beyond reasonable repair, the Clone Wars have to end, all the Jedi have to die, the clones have to start a transition to stormtroopers, the Empire has to become established, ect. If you told someone "the Emperor sends what will become the early ranks of the stormtroopers to kill all the Jedi and only Obi Wan and Yoda live (I know there's more survivors this is just an approximation of the time)", they wouldn't lose their mind on you, they'd think it made sense, with knowledge of the original trilogy and Attack of the Clones. Also, it does help that the game isn't a faithful retelling as a result; Revenge of the Sith is notorious for how drastically its deleted scenes affect the movie, and the tie ins including Lego were faithful to the original draft, leading to a lot of stuff that went unused from the film (sideways Invisible Hand, the disguised 501st at the temple) making it into adaptations, and stuff from the final film (Order 66, the Boga chase, Yoda vs Palpatine, Palpatine's arrest) was either scrapped or reworked (the Revenge of the Sith game only has Anakin and Obi Wan as playable so Order 66 is mainly shown through Anakin raiding the temple and getting kills on Jocasta Nu and Shaak Tii, and Palpatine's Arrest was Anakin vs Windu instead of Windu vs Palpatine), there's also some what if scenes in the RotS game like Anakin killing Obi Wan and Palpatine on Mustafar and becoming Emperor himself. TL;DR Games like Lego Star Wars and Revenge of the Sith were developed alongside the film's preproduction, and in order to release in a time of relevance, came out right near the movie. Spoilers weren't nearly as important as they were now, and Revenge of the Sith is a movie that had maybe the least impactful spoilers in the saga, counting the Disney films. A general plot synopsis was a pretty fair assumption to make at the time and the tie in games include content that was in the draft of thefilm and omit stuff that was in the final film.

I was a kid back then, and the Lego game releasing before Episode III was actually a huge selling point in the marketing in the gaming magazines. It was advertised like seeing the movie early, getting a sneak peak essentially.
As the other commenter said, "spoiler avoidance culture" wasn't as big of a thing as nowadays. When the last Harry Potter book released they even had all the big twists and character deaths in the local newspaper here because everybody was so hyped to know how the story would end.

Lego Star Wars: The Video Game was one of the first games I ever played and always felt uniquely different than the Complete Saga. I was aware of a lot of these changes mentioned in this video, but I specifically remember Lego Star Wars: The Video Game feeling a lot more atmospheric and a lot "cozier" which might've been because of the softer textures and lighting.

Yes, this is exactly it! The Complete Saga is very much an improvement from LSW1 in a mechanical sense, but the atmosphere was so much better in the original.
The small, cozy Dexter’s Diner was perfect as the hub world, and its music amplifies the coziness by so much!
Then there’s the derpy looking character icons, which feel way more genuine than the icons in LSW2 and The Complete Saga.

Great work! Just a couple things: It’s not that the LSW1 sound effects are quieter in TCS’s prequel levels: most of them are just BROKEN. The level-specific sound effects weren’t coded correctly when porting the prequel levels to TCS, so they just fail to play. This is especially noticeable in the AOTC levels.
Also, I’m pretty sure auto-aim is still a thing in LSW1; it’s just that the Clone Troopers are all classified as a “good guy” in LSW1, so your shots don’t target them when playing as a “good guy”.
Other than that, great job on this! Keep up the great work!

A couple of changes that weren't mentioned in the video that I haven't seen in the comments either are that the voices characters make when they are hit or die are weirdly pitched up sometimes in the original Lego Star Wars. I never hear anyone mention this. Obi-Wan's episode 3 variant also changes the groin piece to be orangish red instead of tan in the original. That one is especially odd because it makes it less accurate to the real life physical minifigure. There are a couple of other small changes like that with other characters

Complete Saga has a widescreen option like II. The original game does not, so playing on a widescreen TV stretches the image.
Also, the Rebel Troopers are treated like Battle Droids in the original, meaning they can be pushed into each other and broken apart by the Force. In The Complete Saga, they're treated like ordinary organic characters and can be shocked/choked instead of pushed.

    2) in the original, A New Hope is an unlockable bonus level where you play as Darth Vader and a Storm Trooper in story mode, whereas in TCS it uses the level from the 2nd game and you play from Leia's prospective.
    3) When transitioning between hardware, the poly count on characters, objects, and all other visual set pieces is higher.
