    when micah said she was an empath i knew she was going to be horrible 😭 my mom is a textbook covert narcissist and she ALWAYS describes herself as an empath it’s wild

      It’s grandiose to consistently promote oneself as an empath. I wonder if your mom might be a borderline too.

  • @chelp9442
    @chelp9442 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    Yes! Thank you for pointing out how Micah manipulated Kwame into thinking their connection was stronger than his and Chelsea's. I thought the reunion would get into this but it didn't

    • @thenarcissistwatcher
      @thenarcissistwatcher  ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Yeah, Kwame really ended up saving Micah at the reunion on that point by claiming it was Chelsea that he always wanted to be with. I suppose he had no choice but to say that in order to save his relationship, but it felt very disingenuous.

    • @chelp9442
      @chelp9442 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @The Narcissist Watcher you're so right. Kwame didn't have enough insight to connect the dots because he's a good person.

    Yes, how Micah led Kwame on kind of made me feel a bit sick when I first saw it. I had a hard time articulating exactly why and how it was wrong because of the word salad which totally was confusing to me when I first heard it but you do a great job of pinpointing exactly what was wrong with the things she said in that moment.

    My husband is a legit empath and he gets really shy and overwhelmed when it is brought up. For years he never knew all the energies and feelings he was picking up and he was super anxious about it. I can never picture him just saying out loud "hi! I'm an empath!!"

  • @nykia31

    I've been waiting for this 🤣
    Here's a question that I have thought about a lot: Why do these shows seem to garner so many toxic, socially dysfunctional personalities? Are these types drawn to them as a fuel for their need for attention? Do the producers seek these types out? A bit of both?

    • @thenarcissistwatcher
      @thenarcissistwatcher  ปีที่แล้ว +21

      I suspect it's a bit of both. Fame disproportionately attracts narcissists because of the enormous amount of fuel it provides, plus other benefits like money, access to rarified social circles, etc. Then I imagine producers screen them in because they recognise that they will be TV gold.

    • @p-d-a94
      @p-d-a94 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I think the former. What sane person would go on a show like this particularly one where it concerns a marriage proposal to a stranger

    • @JadedKate
      @JadedKate ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @P-D-A hmm... I think it varies. In my country more than half of these love is blind/married at first sight marriages actually turned out to become very successfull.
      Then I take a look at the American and Australian versions of the exact same TV format and those people are all inhabitants of Narc City, it's ludicrous.
      I don't know how narcissism varies according to countries/nations or generations, but I think there must be a discrepancy there.

    Been looking forward to this series. As I was watching, I was listing all the narc tactics she was using and then applauding when you said them. I watch a therapist channel who never pointed out how manipulative Micah was with both Kwame and Paul, which was glaringly obvious to me. Unfortunately, this is because he tends to give people too much of the benefit of the doubt and thinks too positively about people. You nailed the subtleties of her manipulation here, so thank you!

      @@am20770 yes. I enjoy watching him for the most part and his positivity is great sometimes but when it causes him to overlook potentially dangerous, abusive, hurtful behaviour, that’s not just bad, it’s dangerous. Constantly making excuses for someone’s bad behaviour is what most people do so to hear a therapist, especially someone who claims to specialize in narcissists, do this is really only beneficial for the perpetrators.

    Micah’s claim she’s an empath shows she’s consciously aware she isn’t, it’s overcompensation. And we see that in her friends & Irina. Paul was grilled, why? Reading between the lines, he saw & heard about big red flags & ran, good for him.
    Needless to say, no, she wouldn’t be a nurturing mother. I watch this with my son, my own only child especially as his father is a narc. They’re more likely to become narcissistic like Micah.
    How much you want to bet that Micah & Irina don’t end up on Season 2 of Perfect Match??? I bet they will. It’s a hook up show, full of manipulation & perfect for them.

  • @MomandBuggs
    @MomandBuggs ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Not sure if Micah is a full blown narcissist. She might just be highly selfish I know she’s an only child. Narcissists constantly tell lies and I haven’t seen her do that. She might just have a blind spot. I see the lack of self reflection but I just don’t see enough evidence to prove that she has NPD. Is there something I’m missing?

    • @thenarcissistwatcher
      @thenarcissistwatcher  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You're right - all narcissists lie (and we've caught Micah in one on the very first part of the series, with more to come). However, narcissists come in all shapes and sizes. They can range from an in-your-face, bragging type, where sometimes practically every word out of their mouth is a lie, to the "do gooder" who wants everybody to see what a helpful and nice person they are.
      To some narcissists, it's vital to preserve their facade of being a good, honest, kind, person. And getting constantly caught in lies would damage this facade. So they are much more subtle and selective in where they tell lies.
      Stick around for the series and I'll show you exactly why Micah is a narcissist, as well as some discussion on these different types of narcissists.

      @@thenarcissistwatcher Micah was on Nick Viall's show today. She said she lied about her and Paul not havings sex before the pool party. She said she lied because her mom would be watching the show. She did admit the lie, I don't think a narcissist would admit to lying, but that doesn't look good for her with regards to narcissism.

    • @thenarcissistwatcher
      @thenarcissistwatcher  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@MomandBuggs A narcissist isn't generally going to admit to a big, reputation-damaging lie unless it's absolutely necessary (e.g. they are shown incontrovertible evidence).
      But in the case you just mentioned with Micah, it's a relatively small lie that isn't going to tarnish her reputation. Plus, she justified why she lied, which makes it even less likely that people are going to judge her negatively for it.

    @the narcissist watcher I just watched this where Irina appears to exhibit signs of self-reflection, she says she behaved badly, but does make excuses at times for her behaviour. I would be interested to hear your take on these apologies from MIcah and Irina. They appear to be an illusion. Jackie’s by contrast never seem genuine. A case of lesser narc vs mid-range? th-cam.com/video/ude2FmUdlIE/w-d-xo.html

    • @thenarcissistwatcher
      @thenarcissistwatcher  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Narcissists can certainly show the appearance of being sorry and recognising what they did was wrong. It can be obvious that they aren't truly sorry (e.g. Jackie) or it can look very convincing. But either way, it's just a manipulation and they aren't capable of genuine change.
      Bear in mind that virtually every single person Irina knows will be telling her the same thing: "go up there and say how sorry you are, how ashamed you are for what you did, how you're trying to grow from this, etc. etc.". She isn't stupid, and will realise that these are the words she needs to say in order to save her own skin.

    My question is if she is an empath why did she admit at the end of the reunion that she was so focused on her own self she laughed at people crying n didn't care abt their emotions. Isn't that the opposite of empath?
