    Thanks for your service brother. 21+ years here and now I’m trying to get into the wood working side as well. My Shapeoko 5 is ordered and I can’t wait to start using it.
    Beautiful job man!!

    I had no idea about your background. I follow you and watch and learn from your videos. We’re fellow Christians, so that one’s easy. My mother was a cop and single mother in the 60’s and 70’s. I just want to thank you for your service to everyone. You’re a master craftsman and incredible human being.

    It just made my Sunday morning finding a 731 build video. I know why you mostly do tool videos now, but I don’t even watch those anymore. Your build videos are always an instant like!

    So good to see you back in the shop with a build! We miss you showing us regular folks what’s possible in a garage sized shop space…even if you did use a 4 figure machine in your build. They came out great! Thank you for your service to your community and to all of us TH-cam viewers!

    It seems to me that it might be worthwhile to cut out the star and everything inside the star. Paint the recess blue and put the decal, hopefully white inside and then cover everything, including all the top with epoxy. I think you could find the emblem and run a white transparency off of your computer. Cut the transparency to the outside of the star and then attach to the indented area. Then do a complete cover with epoxy. The blue area need only be thick enough to cover the paint like you would with polyurethane. I would have done it your way, except you showed me that it was not the best way. Good video.

    Nice project Matt. It's also very nice of you to give the anonymous trooper a gift like that. I'm sure he'll enjoy it for years to come. I don't think there's a police man or woman who gets the thanks they deserve. Perhaps you've started a movement. Let's hope so. ❤😊😊

  • @paulhopkins1905
    @paulhopkins1905 ปีที่แล้ว

    These came out great, something you might consider is using a 2k clear like an automotive clear. Spraymax makes an outstanding one that comes in a rattle can. It will hold up better, and has higher solids so it will fill in those little imperfections better than laquer. The only downside is it takes longer to dry as its a catalyzed finish, and once you pop the can it has a short shelf life

    Great job, Matt - they look awesome! I've made a couple projects to honour a couple officers from my service in the last few months, so I know how appreciated this project will be. It's fun doing stuff like that, eh? 🍁 😂

    Warm up your spray paint can in the sun or warm water. It raises the pressure in the can and they spray much better.

    Blue legs & white trim hole would have really set that off nicely... still looks great though 👍

  • @dtr2058
    @dtr2058 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great build, but a heads up, wood glue doesn't properly bond to painted surfaces. Your joint will be a ton stronger being bonded to raw wood.

  • @gtkwatkins
    @gtkwatkins ปีที่แล้ว

    Completely understand that you were not making "tournament boards" - that said, if you make angle of the legs go beyond 90 degrees you will have less movement out of the boards when used on a hard surface and a more enjoyable play experience. I may have missed it in the video, but you should also run a round over bit around the hole top and bottom.

    Matt, maybe an easier way to make this would have been to paint a base color, get the ASP badge cut out of vinyl, stick it on and then top coat with clear epoxy.

    As an Arkansan, with the amount of issues coming out of the Trooper program, it's definitely not a badge of honor.

    Howdy Mr. 731...
    Very nice build. I've thought about doing some corn hole boards but then again, I've "thought" about building probably 1000 things, lol.
    Very good video. Concise and straightforward.
    I'm curious though....At the end, you show a pic of yourself in uniform. Why is it that Military and Police force pics they have you pose with no smile? Why is that? All pics look like the photographer pissed yall off.
    The only reason/conclusion I can think of is that "they" want to portray a "Seriousness" to the duty.
    I can understand that, to a point....But the other side of that coin is that who's going to see those pics besides fellows and family? It's not like the public is going to see them.
    I dunno. Just curious.
    Great video Mr. Buttons. Keep them coming. 😊

    • @731Woodworks
      @731Woodworks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      lol they don't force the angry face. But at the ASP they took those pictures during troop school. We were a few weeks from graduation but still in the thick of it and wasn't nobody having fun lol. There were a few that smiled. But most don't. I didn't want to be the one cheesing ha. My later ASP pictures, I smile in lol.

      @GrantButler yeah. It’s a random draw lol. They repurpose badge numbers after someone quits, gets fired, or retires lol. I was 364 lol

    Do you need to get permission to create an official design? I know some people have gotten in trouble for copying trademarks!

    • @731Woodworks
      @731Woodworks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      🤷🏻‍♂️ I didn’t see any trademarks on the ASP Star. However if I was using a big sports team logo then I’d be cautious about the trademarks.

    I have to admit that I prefer, by far, your project videos. Thank you for this one! i understand that you get paid a lot more with your sponsored videos where you compare products, and I will not blame you for making money! I will just not watch them. Again, thank you for your great project videos!

    • @731Woodworks
      @731Woodworks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. Actually very very few of my tool videos are sponsored. 99.9% of them I buy the tools because I am interested in them or I know that the audience is curious about them or would find them interesting.
