My daughter and I have recently started creating things out of wood and these videos of yours have opened our eyes up to a bunch of new things to build. Thank you very much for what will be plenty of hours of precious time between us and allowing her to learn a profitable skill for when she is older :)
Hey , I saw this video and thought, "wow, I can do this!" I am a novice woodworker. I built an Anne White farmhouse bed with the storage underneath this last summer. I love your ideas and see where I can make some extra income with these projects. Thank you By the way, I love your T-shirt! God Bless!!!
I know this video is a little bit older but I found your TH-cam a few weeks ago and love what you do. I am also in the middle of slowly building up my shop and getting project ideas to sell. I am a 100% disabled veteran and don’t have the ability to work a normal job. Woodworking is one of my main hobbies that I enjoy and wanted to make a side hustle out of it. You have really inspired me. Thanks also for what you do with supporting Veterans and the Police. Many of us really do get the short end of the stick because you do have the bad apples that give us all a bad name. May God bless you and your business.
Hey, I was drawn to subscribe when you added Faith to the narrative! I watch way too much TH-cam, so I wasn’t going to subscribe. I liked the last two videos I have seen of yours, so adding some positive spiritual spin to it drew me right in! Thank, brother! Keep it positive! I love it!
Absolutely friend! You took the words right out of my mouth. Thank you for praising the fact that this gentleman isn’t ashamed to publicly use the word “”faith.”” GOD bless....... :))
I’m about to launch my own woodworking business after having lost ,my job. I built a 24’x32’ metal building shop. Bought some vintage tools, 18” planner, table saw, bandsaw, drill press, that I’m refurbishing. I’ll update as I go. Keep up the good work!!
Glad I found you brother. Carpenter and god fearing patriot I just began my own custom furniture business. Ive already made slot of these things but there's many inventory ideas I really appreciated. Thank you brother keep doing what you do we are a dying breed unfortunately
Hey there, I’ve built projects for years but never sold them. I have all the tools as I’m a remodeler of 30yrs. and will be hanging that up soonish. I think I see my new hobby/business! Not looking to make a fortune, just stay busy. Thanks 🙏 I’ll be watching
Thank you so much Matt, I been looking for simple projects to do. I love wood working but don't have alot of time. And what you showed me I can definitely do and sell to help with my bills.
Have you ever considered selling kits for people to assemble? You could even vary the level of difficulty. It seems to me that it would simplify shipping and give people something to accomplish that gives some self satisfaction to customers (plus a bit of “teach a man how to fish” too). ... Fist bump back atcha from this 30-year Navy vet!!
@Capt I as someone just starting out in my woodworking business this is *exactly* what I have been focussing on for the exact same reasons you stated. Cheaper, easier shipping and also an element of fun and ownership to the customer when they put products together. It's also been a really fun challenge for me to figure out how to make kits that are as dummy proof as possible to ensure that my products turn out as I would like them to at the other end.
As a Vet myself (Navy Seabee Reserves 2011-2018), I appreciate the respect, but as a fellow woodworker, I truly appreciate the virtual encouragement & fist bump! Keep up the stellar work, & a virtual fist bump right back at you!
You. Are. Awesome. Thank you so much for sharing the things you've learned over the years with all of us. As a beginner woodworker I truly appreciate your positively humble attitude. Keep up the outstanding work!
I just want to tell you how much i enjoy watching your videos, I have been woodworking for over 45 yrs. You have a great delivery for your information. Keep up the great work.
I love how you bring up the Jay Bates thing. How he got you into wood working. I've always been interested in wood working. And I quit drinking in October 2020 and I've been trying different projects since then that keeps me busy, but I always seem to keep an eye on wood working videos and wood burning videos so I'm always coming back to wood. I watch a lot of John Malecki's video because he used to play for the Steelers. GO STEELERS!!!!!! And I searched something the other day and your video popped up and I've watching you as well since then. So just like Jay Bates helped you get started, you're helping me get started. Can't wait until Tuesday/Wednesday. I ordered a new more expensive wood burning tool and I order a Rotary Tool. The Rotary tool is the first tool that I'm purchasing to get started. I'm excited and can't wait to get started. I look fwd to learning and watching more of your videos! Thank you Matt!!!!
Brother, you are amazing. Sharing knowledge and ideas basically free of charge is not a common gesture nowadays; may our maker shower your home with peace and happiness.
I WAS JUST LOOKING AT SOME WEB SITES AND CLICKED ON YOURS AND THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL THE GREAT IDEALS. I WILL SIGN UP TO SEE ALL YOUR VIDEO'S.DO YOU HAVE PLANS PEOPLE CAN BUY FROM YOU. THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO AND HAVE A GREAT DAY AND THANKS FOR HELPING SO MANY PEOPLE IN WOODWORKING.
Thanks so much for this 731 I'm a 4th year apprentice cabinet maker from Australia and have wanted to get into some woodworking to make some extra cash to save for my first home to set myself to start a family and grow my business and this has helped me get off my bump and get to work and just start somewhere, thank you 731 God bless you and your family ❤
Like momma said 😂 that’s perfect. Love your videos Matt! Been watching them over and over starting to build things. Love your positive attitude and helpful nature for us out here trying to start fresh. As an army veteran I appreciate you!
Matt as long as there is a positive reconstruction of our flag, it will never be a deconstruction of our flag... Thank you and the Mrs 731 for all your positive work... 🇺🇸 ❤️
I've been wood working for about 20 years ( 18 or so as my full time work), It's good to see people such as yourself encouraging others to make the transition from hobby to business. You've also got me thinking about the flags but where I live (Barbados) doesn't have a flag as sparkly as yours in the US so it may not look sharp. It does have Aqaman's trident on it tho so we'll see, lol.
Don't get me wrong. I'm all for wood working projects. Especially if you have the skill or tools to put out a good quality product. But the cost of wood right now? How can you even do these projects at a price range that would make them affordable? Take the little shoe bench for example. A 2X6 is over $15 and in some cases over $20 (and you would need two). A 1x4 is over $6. And these are unfinished. The supports will need to be 2X4 so that's another $9. So you already have at least $45 in lumber. And that is not even taking into account, sandpaper, wood screws, stain, or paint. This is easily a $60 project and that is without labor considerations. Assuming an hour construction and sanding. Plus and hour for painting or staining and anything other than selling it for $90 means you are under selling your labor and still not able to match a price on Amazon for similar products. On a side note, if your client has large feet, over 12 inches, you are going to have to create a bench wide enough to compensate for the extra long shoes. So that is another 2X6 and another 1X4 which puts your materials in the $75 range. Now mind you, your client probably isn't going to find a similarly long product on Amazon, so you can make a profit on this niche market. You could probably sale a finished product for $150 and clear quite a bit. But I should point out this bench is going to be heavy and how many people would you know that are such large footed and want want of these benches? If wood prices would drop down to what they were 2 years ago. I'd say go for it. You could sale them for $90 each and have still made a reasonable profit. But right now. I just don't see it. Not with wood prices where they are at.
Brother. I LOVE, LOVE LOVE your videos. I do a little woodworking to include whittling tiny bears, but my passion is preaching and teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Thanks for showing that ministry can be included in everything we do. God Bless You and your Family.
I am going to try to make some of these. I got hurt at work and pretty much forced onto disability. I need to supplement my income badly as well as find something positive to do with all the free time I have now. While initially I was going to do pallet furniture because I live beside a carpet store that throws away pallets every day and will let me have them. I found most of the pallets have busted, cracked or broken pieces. I want to say “Thank you” for sharing your wisdom with a beginner. You must be a genuinely good man. Most people are so greedy that they wouldn’t risk losing $0.01 to help their fellow man. God bless you.
I’ve been playing around with things to make, i have my own sawmill to cut my own lumber and im going to try a few of these, thanks for sharing, and very inspiring.
That's kind of my work, it's really artisan at that point. I stand around looking at a piece of wood like hmmm, I wonder what I could make out of this. Only enough to make one. Lol
I started woodworking when I retired two years ago making Adirondack chairs, benches, birdhouses etc. just like you do. the only difference is I make everything out of salvaged wood i find, (side of the road, dumps etc.) It makes it so much more of a challenge working around the imperfections and flaws of the wood and is very rewarding and when I tack the word "rustic" onto the ad people grab them right up! I'm looking forward to getting some of the plans. thank you for your videos.
I am looking to get into woodworking and stumbled upon this channel. Love it! Very informative, helpful, and genuine. Love your faith based business as well. Subscribed!
Just saw you today (Dec 4th, 2020) for the first time. I have followed Jay Bates for some time. He isn't the reason I became interested in woodworking, but he is why I thought about making it a business. I'm still in the beginning stages of said business, but I really enjoy your presentation. Having the religious tone set in is inspiring and commendable. Thank you for the videos and the word of God. May He continue to bless you and your family!
Great video! Love your channel...very inspiring. I'm a beginner but you've inspired me to move forward on some basic tools and projects. Great work! Thanks!
I did use some of your ideas coffee bar/tv stand/console and your benches sold some and picked up some orders. Thank u for sharing your ideas very grateful
Hi Matt. Just wanted to share my experience with my first sale. I watched this video a while back and the same day I saw an ad for someone looking for a blanket ladder. I contacted the person in the ad and I made a deal to build one for her. An hour later she called me back with 3 more orders. I copied your ladder and they all loved them. Thanks for the video.
With your accent, you could read the Yellow Pages and I'd still enjoy listening to you! Great ideas and some impressive-looking projects. Over here in the UK we tend to think of a flag as just a piece of cloth. But respect to you for dealing with the potential nay-sayers with your final comments. Thank you for sharing some of the ideas that have worked for you. Really appreciated.
Tip: the RV industry re: those stove tops. The industry doesn't have the edges on the plastic or plastic countertop material that keep stuff from sliding around. Also, any small portable shelf or well made step stool comes in handy to, everyone uses something that isn't near as nice as good woodworking unless they make it themselves. I'm camping out in my truck camper for a few months at a job, and I'm discovering new needs for coat hanging pegs on backing boards, shelves, boot dryer on some swing out hinges across from a heater vent, etc. Those blanket and quilt ladders sized for RV's would probably also be popular. The rv industry supply chain is toast, and their consumer accessories are / were mostly plastic junk anyway. Also, thank you for your flags and promotion of the military and law enforcement, sometimes they need to hear the positive instead of the unfairly negative too. Keep up the good work and thanks again for the videos and information!
I enjoyed that part of the video too. I can already see Tuba Four 731 hoodies and vinyl window stickers for rear window minivan . . .I called my minivan a mom truck and a butt wagon. I haven't had a minivan for a long, long time. I'll have to get another mom truck if I learn how to make all of these woodshop projects. Buying a bench from his store might be a little more affordable though.
I concur to all of the positive messages below and couldn't say it any better. I plan to use these ideas for gifts throughout the year for family and friends. Thanks for sharing and looking forward for more videos.
Great content and insights, greatly appreciated!! Your way of giving back by sharing your success is a valuable contribution in many ways. I like your presentation style. Keep up the good work!!
Ive followed you for several years and bought your flag and stars templates and directions. I sold quite a few of them. Gotta say the quality of your videos has really improved. Ive sold projects I made with wood for several decades so I cant give you all the credit, but your Ideas have given me lots more ideas. I used to make bunkbeds. Profitable but very heavy and take up lots of room in my little shop. I love smaller items that are easy to build and easy to display. Stay safe, (retired LEO)
Do the led strips hold up pretty well? Also you mentioned a remote. I assume this isn’t the strips that you can cut and use for several different projects, correct? Thank you friend!!.... :))
They've held up great. I haven't had one fail yet. You can cut them shorter, but to use in many projects would require additional power connectors and adapters, which would cost about the same as a new strip.
when making table tops out of 1x6, im having an issue keeping the top surface flush. it seems like the pocket joints like to pull it up a bit leaving a seam. how do you keep that from happening?
I made 2 of your small benches this week and put them on my pick up truck to take them to my house to make excellent photos to enable me to sell them here in Thailand. By the time i walked back to my truck after locking my workshop up a lady said you make lovely things ,my friend told me. Can i buy these 2 benches please. sold. I opened my workshop up again and made a pot of tea. Us British must stop for tea. It was 4 pm. Thank you. I sold them 2000 baht each. YOU are a great help to me. r.h.
Man your videos are THE BEST on the net. Besides being a 22 year Police Veteran and a Marine Corps Veteran, Im a hobby woodworker. I’ve watched so many of your videos and learned so much from them. Keep the content flowing!!
Gonna be honest here, I basically never comment on any youtube videos, but I had to say this. For whatever reason, this video was super motivating for me. I'm getting my shop set up to start a woodworking business and it's super difficult to keep from getting overwhelmed. Your video has juiced me up something fierce! Thanks for posting it!
Agree with you 100% as does anyone else with morals and a brain. God bless you and your family. Thank you so much for the great content. I appreciate you and your support for us veterans.
When I started look for wood working videos I found a ton, but at the end of ur videos or somewhere in it you always seem to give a Bible verse. I don't do the subscription thing but that one element convinced me to subscribe to your channel. Thanks.for what you do. Thanks for standing on your principles. Thanks for supporting Law enforcement and the military. Keep it up ! God bless you and Mrs. 731 !
Excellent advice and tips! I’m a experienced woodworker but this is the first time I’ve come across someone who has a marketing angle that is both crisp and real.
I’ve only recently gotten into woodworking (quarantine “free” time in the backyard while the kids play). I’ve made some shelving and a cabinet for our bathroom, along with some coffee bar decor. Thanks for the videos! And especially thanks for using your woodworking designs and TH-cam presence for your faith! As a Christian myself, it’s nice to see someone who uses anchors, crosses, and verse numbers in your work! Kudos and keep strong brother!
Love your channel. My name is Matt too. I'm actually a teacher and do woodworking on the side. I have been using a cricuit for my stencils. Then use clear to seal it, then paint. Really helps with the bleeding.
About to semi retire (after 30 + years teaching) this really does inspire me. Also as a believer myself REALLY like the spiritual dimension and positivity!
Great video. I am a 26 year Navy vet that is just getting started in woodworking. There are a lot of expensive things associated with it so I look forward to trying to recoup some of my funds with some of your ideas. Thanks and keep up the good work!

Do you have a store or is it all sold online?
Online and local pick up but no store front

I love it!
Thank you 👊🏻
Absolutely friend! You took the words right out of my mouth. Thank you for praising the fact that this gentleman isn’t ashamed to publicly use the word “”faith.”” GOD bless....... :))
thank you young man . as a nam era navy vet and a retired corrections officer i thank you for your kind heads up .
Air Force Veteran here, love your channel Matt.
Thank you for your service!
Free American citizen here, Thank you sir.
Active duty JROTC veteran here. I like your channel more than he does.
Thank you for your services ❤️
I am greatful.
Be blessed 🙏
And I’m just a dude enjoying your video 👌🏽
I’m about to launch my own woodworking business after having lost ,my job. I built a 24’x32’ metal building shop. Bought some vintage tools, 18” planner, table saw, bandsaw, drill press, that I’m refurbishing. I’ll update as I go. Keep up the good work!!
Good To See A Fellow Arkansan on Here. Loved the Witness in the Video. God Bless You Bro
Hello neighbor
Glad I found you brother. Carpenter and god fearing patriot I just began my own custom furniture business. Ive already made slot of these things but there's many inventory ideas I really appreciated. Thank you brother keep doing what you do we are a dying breed unfortunately
Hey there, I’ve built projects for years but never sold them. I have all the tools as I’m a remodeler of 30yrs. and will be hanging that up soonish. I think I see my new hobby/business! Not looking to make a fortune, just stay busy. Thanks 🙏 I’ll be watching
Awesome
This guy is great! A true American Christian, glad I found his videos, thanks 731 woodworks
Thank you
Thank you so much Matt, I been looking for simple projects to do. I love wood working but don't have alot of time. And what you showed me I can definitely do and sell to help with my bills.
Awesome
God Bless America! I see nothing but respect for Old Glory, the military and our police here on this channel. Keep up the good work!!
That's a great idea. I would like to do that at some point. I appreciate your service!
@@731Woodworks Yeah then you can sell clamps!!! :)
@@wadeb.5509 Yes, after all your middle name is 'Clamps'!
@@731Woodworks you can be next IKEA with way better quality 💪
As a Vet myself (Navy Seabee Reserves 2011-2018), I appreciate the respect, but as a fellow woodworker, I truly appreciate the virtual encouragement & fist bump! Keep up the stellar work, & a virtual fist bump right back at you!
Thank you for your service 👊

You. Are.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Love your disclaimer! Love that you support law enforcement and our military! Your channel is amazing!
Thank you
I love how you bring up the Jay Bates thing. How he got you into wood working. I've always been interested in wood working. And I quit drinking in October 2020 and I've been trying different projects since then that keeps me busy, but I always seem to keep an eye on wood working videos and wood burning videos so I'm always coming back to wood. I watch a lot of
John Malecki's video because he used to play for the Steelers.
Army brat, for life! Thank you Dad for your service. RIP
👊🏻
Brother, you are amazing. Sharing knowledge and ideas basically free of charge is not a common gesture nowadays; may our maker shower your home with peace and happiness.

Glad to help
Like momma said 😂 that’s perfect.
Love your videos Matt! Been watching them over and over starting to build things. Love your positive attitude and helpful nature for us out here trying to start fresh. As an army veteran I appreciate you!
thank you for your service
Matt as long as there is a positive reconstruction of our flag, it will never be a deconstruction of our flag... Thank you and the Mrs 731 for all your positive work... 🇺🇸 ❤️
I've been wood working for about 20 years ( 18 or so as my full time work), It's good to see people such as yourself encouraging others to make the transition from hobby to business. You've also got me thinking about the flags but where I live (Barbados) doesn't have a flag as sparkly as yours in the US so it may not look sharp. It does have Aqaman's trident on it tho so we'll see, lol.
go for it
Don't get me wrong.
Thank you Milton!
I would love to make the flag with the Marine symbol. My boys served and my youngest daughter wants to. Right now I am starting with signs to sell!!!
👊🏻
I am going to try to make some of these. I got hurt at work and pretty much forced onto disability. I need to supplement my income badly as well as find something positive to do with all the free time I have now. While initially I was going to do pallet furniture because I live beside a carpet store that throws away pallets every day and will let me have them. I found most of the pallets have busted, cracked or broken pieces. I want to say “Thank you” for sharing your wisdom with a beginner. You must be a genuinely good man. Most people are so greedy that they wouldn’t risk losing $0.01 to help their fellow man. God bless you.
You're welcome!
I’ve been playing around with things to make, i have my own sawmill to cut my own lumber and im going to try a few of these, thanks for sharing, and very inspiring.
You’re welcome
Subscribed!
Thank you
You use your gifts to serve others! Keep working brother!
I'm retired from the Army, and I am a former police officer. Thank you for what you do, and stay safe!
Thank you
Great video!
Awesome
Thank you for the information and love how you included Bible verses. That’s an awesome shirt!
Thank you
That is awesome. Congrats
Very good ideas friend. Excellent.
Thank you
This lit a fire in me that I never knew existed. Thank you
Awesome
With your accent, you could read the Yellow Pages and I'd still enjoy listening to you! Great ideas and some impressive-looking projects. Over here in the UK we tend to think of a flag as just a piece of cloth. But respect to you for dealing with the potential nay-sayers with your final comments. Thank you for sharing some of the ideas that have worked for you. Really appreciated.
Thank you
You’re a huge inspiration for me. Thank you Matt. Starting my TV stand this week ❤️
Awesome. Go for it, let me know how it turns out for you
Tip: the RV industry re: those stove tops. Keep up the good work and thanks again for the videos and information!
you should totally make a designer "Tuba Four" sign! plus i managed to find it on urban dictionary , keep up the good videos!
lol would be awesome
I enjoyed that part of the video too. I can already see Tuba Four 731 hoodies and vinyl window stickers for rear window minivan . . .I called my minivan a mom truck and a butt wagon. I haven't had a minivan for a long, long time. I'll have to get another mom truck if I learn how to make all of these woodshop projects. Buying a bench from his store might be a little more affordable though.
I concur to all of the positive messages below and couldn't say it any better. I plan to use these ideas for gifts throughout the year for family and friends. Thanks for sharing and looking forward for more videos.
Thank you
Great content and insights, greatly appreciated!! Your way of giving back by sharing your success is a valuable contribution in many ways. I like your presentation style. Keep up the good work!!
Glad it was helpful!
Glad the videos helped. Thank you for your service.
Fyi: you can find the led strips with remotes at Walmart (in the electronics section) for $8.
I've used a dozen in various projects.
nice
Can you post a link for the led strip lights please?
@@stephendylla5715 it’s in the description of the video
Do the led strips hold up pretty well? Also you mentioned a remote. I assume this isn’t the strips that you can cut and use for several different projects, correct? Thank you friend!!.... :))
They've held up great. I haven't had one fail yet.
You can cut them shorter, but to use in many projects would require additional power connectors and adapters, which would cost about the same as a new strip.
Never followed ur channel, but faithful, positive people are hard to find . Love ur work ,be blessed and prosperous .
when making table tops out of 1x6, im having an issue keeping the top surface flush. it seems like the pocket joints like to pull it up a bit leaving a seam. how do you keep that from happening?
Face clamp helps some. Making sure the edges of each board is square is key
Back again to view this video for inspiration. Great reminder. Thank you.

Love the shirt with one of my favorite verses: Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

Love your attitude, and your content!
Am I the only one that is hearing "Bitches" rather than benches. LOL I can't stop laughing. Thanks Bro. Subbed!!
lol thanks. My south Arkansas accent betrays me at times.
YOU are a great help to me. r.h.
Awesome
When you say that you sell your stuff locally, could you give some examples of where you're selling? Facebook Marketplace, etc. Thanks!
I made a video about that here: th-cam.com/video/DCyBplfL2dU/w-d-xo.html
Man your videos are THE BEST on the net. Besides being a 22 year Police Veteran and a Marine Corps Veteran, Im a hobby woodworker. I’ve watched so many of your videos and learned so much from them. Keep the content flowing!!
Now you’re talking my language... Cricut 😂 I kept thinking I could make a stencil with my cricut and it won’t bleed
👍🏻
Gonna be honest here, I basically never comment on any youtube videos, but I had to say this. For whatever reason, this video was super motivating for me. I'm getting my shop set up to start a woodworking business and it's super difficult to keep from getting overwhelmed. Your video has juiced me up something fierce! Thanks for posting it!
Go for it! 👊
You got me reading the bible haha :) thank you, very inspiring

Thank you 👊🏻
When I started look for wood working videos I found a ton, but at the end of ur videos or somewhere in it you always seem to give a Bible verse.
Thank you
About to semi retire (after 30 + years teaching) this really does inspire me. Also as a believer myself REALLY like the spiritual dimension and positivity!
