It shouldn't blow your mind. They basically pleaded the 5th which if you've done something wrong is the smart thing to do. Altuve or Bregman don't want to be the next banned for life after Pete Rose.

    • @1ronman1
      @1ronman1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Why? Because right now the only possible way for an outcome (banned for life) is for proof. The proof would be someone blowing the whistle, or them admitting it. So the only way for them at the moment, is to deny. Once proof comes out and they've been proven guilty, is when they would apologize and explain.

There was an interview with Bauer (Bowman) of the REDS pitching bullpen and he said he knew of 3 different players (all unconnected with each other from other teams) that had heard that the Astros were wearing electronic devices. Bregman has been suspected by many people as having worn those devices. He seems like the exact type of cocky f__k that would do that. He also has been shown to have had a piece of tape on his chest when his jersey was ripped and a slight bulge up on his shirt higher up. Then if you watched the fan day interview just a few days ago, he was scripted in what he kept repeating as though it was coming right out of his lawyer's mouth. It will eventually all leak out. • @Reciprocitus
      @Reciprocitus 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Sadly the MLB can't punish them. If they tried, the Player's Union would fight it tooth and nail, and the next time the two sides had to come to a new labor agreement, MLB would have to bend over backwards to avoid a strike the union would likely angle for out of spite.
While it would be ideal if the union decided the health and fairness of the game trumped protecting these guys, that's not how a union works. You pay your dues, you (supposedly) get protected no matter how badly you screw up or cheat the system.
As for those who would argue "What about the players in the union who were cheated by the Astros and/or Red Sox? What about the dues they paid, the union's responsibility to them?", the likely answer is the union expects those players to go "Well, it sucks that these jackasses who cheated the rest of us are being protected, but if I screw up real bad in the future and it's MY turn to be shielded from repercussions by the union i'll be glad they're doing it." and just deal with it.
It sucks but it's just how things are. Quid pro quo.

The real problem is that the commissioner’s report leaves a lot of unanswered questions. For instance:
How many times was the cheating attempted and how many times was it successful and how many times did it backfire because the opposing team got wise?
Were the tactics employed throughout the 2017 playoffs AND World Series?
What about in the following seasons?
Were the Astros able to employ the system on the road when the home team obliged and gave them the live feed?
Who, besides Carlos Beltran, was involved?
    Did any players object?
Before the team is going to apologize, the commissioner needs to flush out the details. Until he does, the players would be out of their minds to confess.
And Altuve is right. In time we’ll all be laughing. After all, while the steroid era ruined potential HOF careers, fans pretty much moved on. This too shall past and that’s when it would be most prudent for Altuve to address the controversy.

So true Rich. I live in Houston, I am 62 years old and have been waiting all these years for the Astros to finally win it all. They do in 2017 and then we find out they cheated. Bear in mind MLB allowed the technology to be used, i.e. the camera in center field and the monitor behind the dugout. What did they expect would happen? I am disgusted, disappointed and feel betrayed. They are talented enough to play and win or lose on the abilities, not on a sophisticated system one would think that would be used in a WW II prison camp breakout scenario. Only way to start to “ fix” this is to win it all in 2020. We will see.

This right here is spot on. Thank you Rich Eisen. You can definitely here the anger and passion that this conveys to all baseball fans. As far as Spring training, one of these players will contradict something and it's all a matter of time til it all unfolds. Maybe not now but maybe a year or two, when that one player that loses his arbitration case and has a bad taste in his mouth of the owner and organization, he'll be the one to go under oath and let the world know what really went down.

@@dharitpatel9739 The MLB needs to come up with something. Hinch and Luhnow, while culpable, were not the ringleaders of this scandal. They're punished just because they don't have an association protecting them. The players are the ones that carry the most blame. The ultimate punishment that will impact current and former players, and not penalize other teams where players have moved on to, is to strip their title. Guys like Verlander and Altuve and Bregman can't call themselves champions anymore. Dallas Kuechel, now on the White Sox, can't call himself a champion anymore. The Astros would still be searching for their first World Series.

    In my heart, these players
    involved in electronic buzzer
    cheating should be punished.
    The metal trash can banging
    should have brought this
    cheating issue to light much
    sooner. Have you ever seen
    inside a dugout? It’s a mess!
    The players throw everything
right on the ground not even
using a trash can. The metal
trash can is just a prop for
    their use for cheating.
    Altuve, for one, is despicable.
You can see it in his eyes.
I lay awake at night thinking,
    Is Altuve sleeping soundly or
is he ashamed inside at what
he & others did to taint the
    great American pastime?

Any grande gesture to remove the title is meaningless. Just stop the madness. Baseball has always only had one real rule: don't bet on the game. That's it.
