    Jessie has a 25-year diesel mechanic I recommend you get some Dielectric grease from the auto parts store it will make your connectors completely waterproof and it makes the connectors easier to connect and disconnect just recommendation as always great video and Merry Christmas

    The first thing to know about SAE connectors is make the female side of your power source the positive. Looks like your power side is male and could short easy when unplugged.

    • @timsnyder2175
      @timsnyder2175 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's exactly what I was going to say. You have the plus exposed, which would short to the frame (assuming negative ground.)

    Two videos on these lights? Might have been ok with one well thought out one, seems sketchy to me now seeing these cobbled together videos that have little structure. Is this how it ends?

  • @DillysADV
    @DillysADV 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    it may have already been mentioned so I apologize if it was. on the 2 prong connectors that you used, you connected them backwards. You want to always have the positive terminal (the live one when disconnected) as the one that is female so that it does not accidentally touch something.. Not a big deal but just something to think about in the future.

    A water proof connector is only sealed when you don't forget the green sealing grommet before you crimp the connector on. Or you can look at this as a lesson on how not to wire lights that are in the elements.

  • @grousetales
    @grousetales 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Just a quick note on the wiring... When using those polarized quick connectors, it's best practice to put the half with the "male-negative" on the vehicle, and the "male-positive" on the device. When you have the "male-positive" on the vehicle, it has the potential to short out against the frame of the vehicle if you ever have it energized when not connected to the device. It looked like the lights might be wired with non-standard configuration. Fun project !

  • @kitchendog
    @kitchendog 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    You should put a clamp multimeter on the red cable and a voltmeter to the battery for voltage mesurement, to see how many watts the lights draw. I bought a cheap 72 watt ledbar on ebay, and it only drew 27watts. So I get way less light then adverticed. Merry christmas from Norway.

    Can you show how you connected your posts to your foundation? On the house raising did not see it on the video. I enjoy being able to see your journey.

    • @paulcopeland9035
      @paulcopeland9035 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      What? Oh no! They are going to show how the frame is attached to the foundation!!?? This will ruin the day for the many jerks on here who feel the building is going to slide off and down the mountain. Must be the same "experts" who were sure the foundation would collapse at any moment. I can't wait until the SIPs show up to hear what a bad idea they are.

    You mounted the wrong lead to the backhoe. The red positive lead is exposed(unless you wired it red negative) and will short out if it contacts the negative grounded body. The other end of the connector has a shielded red to avoid just such a hazard.

    You can put some silicone or Teflon grease on the plugs it will cut down on problems if water gets in and makes it easier to plug and unplug! I have worked with electronics in cars, trucks, and many other things in Florida where water gets places that most people would say it can't get! Light coating of silicone grease helps keep water out, stops rust and other things. Put a small amount of silicone grease on your finger, then try to wipe it off. You can feel it still on there. It will stay on there until you use soap. I have used it for years!

    Packard (Delphi) is using the baha automotive industry for GM products, shitty in cold climates in past over time. The Deutsch products are better they are able to be fully waterproof and use solid brass pins for male female which is great for disconnection reconnect more then 10 times plus resistance to bending. It's used in industrial grade off road and airspace. When you want to make repairs or custom harness use quality so you have less impact of break down in future. In my past experience I was one of lead mechanical designer on AMMPS military generators. If you ever have questions about anything gensets from 1 liter to 120 liter I may be of help or if not I can point you to people or places for more information. Keep up the great work you guys are doing great.

    the quick disconnect plug doesn't fit thru the hole :) jesse jesse jesse pretend you're starting all over. first go get yourself a couple of grommets that fit the outside holes, if you can't find any with a small hole in the center (for your quick disconnect plug wires) just punch a hole in them yourself. now thread the quick disconnect plug wires thru the little hole you made in the grommet, next slide that grommet all the way till it butts up against the plug. next take the two wires on the opposite end of the grommet/plug and insert them in the outside hole - push till they come out the larger hole in the cab. now do your crimping. you can now place the grommet(s) in the outside holes with your (now sealed) plug hang out of it!!1@#1! i know you don't read this stuff, but i was bored :) love all you and alysia do, thanks!

  • @CainnechK

    Seems to me that in the end those mounts minus the magnet should be able to use the mounting holes from the original lights if u wanna make it more permanent. Maybe replace those center lights with a more focused beamed light so ur able to light up further in front of u. Would probably make a great mixture

This way if the red mail pin contacts the frame or body of your tractor it will not short out & blow your fuse. Bruce

    Amazing! And don’t forget to solder those wire connections. Just crimping them isn’t enough. They need to be soldered to the crimps. Other wise they will make a poor connection down the road and you will find that you will have to rewire them. But the copper factory wires will be all oxidized and brittle for a good 6 inched down from where the case is cut. It’s also recommended to use heat shrink tubing on those connection points to prevent that from happening. And some electrical tape on the Baja sport plug end where the two wires are exposed just before the wether proof plug.

I leave the ROP down mostly, well until I get all the trees trimmed on the property. Then I'll have to learn to put the ROP down BEFORE I put in back into the garage......LOL (I've done that twice now, my first clue is the wheelie)

      I can help you with that. Those who can, do. And those who can't, troll. So when I see a troll, I just feel a bit sorry for them. After all, youtube is optional, not required viewing. And then of course there's the self esteem issue and needing to feel superior, but that starts to get into psychology and that's a bit deep for most of them.

    Why put 2 different sets of connectors and more buttt crimps? The sealed connectors you had are intended for this application. The other connections are more a temporary solution and more points of failure. The magnets are also a waste of parts, unless you 'want to reposition thé lights frequenntly or get the nice lights stolen. Keep it simple !

      Ouellet? Seeing that name I had comment, one of my great great ancestors was a Ouellette, might be related somewhere in the past. ; )

      My ancestors on my Mother's side immigrated from the Alsace region in France and were in Quebec for many years until one of the great French Canadian migrations when they moved to Massachusetts... around a hundred years ago or so.

    You can run the new wires through the front hole . Then connect them to the old wire through the back hole.

    I still say that backhoe was your very very best investment... Man can you imagine how tough you lives would be without it... Hope you can start construction again soon... Not for me, but just so you can get moved in... Love you guys and Merry Christmas.. and may the New Year be even more than you can imagine.

    Very nice. Personally, I would use both sets of lights. Also, I was going to suggest turning the bottom mount lights over to make them into top mount lights (or vice versa).

    I was intrigued by how the LEDs illuminated (and changed) the color of the tractor .
    Turned the color to a bright yellow.

    The difference between the led and halogen is the color temperature. Led lights have polarized light and usually mono tones in the blue light that is intensified.
    Good tutorial of the differences between the color temps and intensities between the two.

    Does anyone else think Jessie’s Canadian accent gets more pronounced the colder it gets?

      It is a Northern Accent. We have it in Michigan too. I think I recall in a video not to long, he also said "Pop," for soda. 👍

      Haha Keith! Their accents are unmistakably thicker as the cold enshrouds them.

    You put the wrong end of the SAE connector on the backhoe (you called them quick connectors). The Negative pin should be exposed on the backhoe and the Positive pin should be shielded on the piece connected to the backhoe. The reason is that most equipment has a grounded frame ie the frame is directly referenced to the Negative connection. If you have the Positive connection exposed on the backhoe, you have the potential to short out the backhoe when change the lights. Of course if you know that your backhoe's frame is Positive referenced I withdraw my comment.
