Cody I've been a subscriber since before you hit 100k, that's my only claim to fame... I loved your old videos, they were so informative and original and that's why I've continued to follow your content. These "common mans workshop" vidoes are a return to your original style and they are a refreshing change of pace compared to some of your other recent videos concerning your diet and so on. Keep up the manly manners and other masculine nuggets of information. As a young man, mid 20s, the knowledge you share on a daily basis in invaluable.
I'm also a visual learner, and this video was perfect. I recently moved into a rural area and have been wanting to wire up my own LED bar to my Escape. I feel more empowered now.
I'm a volunteer firefighter/EMT in a very rural area and have my auxiliary lights wired similarly but not using a double pole switch. They can only come on with the high beams or I can flip the switch they they stay off even if the high beams are on. I figured when I need the auxiliary lights I'd have my high beams on too. We have a big problem with deer at night as well as various other wildlife. After about 6PM there is pretty much no one else on the road and we get a lot of medical calls in the middle of the night.
Did you do this by just using an on/off toggle switch? This is how I want to wire mine as well.Do I just come out of the fuse box to the switch instead of having to run battery to switch? Obviously I would still run battery to relay but wasn’t sure that I needed to run to switch as well.
Great video. A lot of people don't really understand how to wire these extra lights, especially these led lights. You explained it in a very understandable manor.
0 seconds ago I watched this video years ago. Just got a Ford transit and thought - "hey my buddy Cody did a playlist on his old transit" Such a great investment.
Thanks bro. I wish all tutorials were this in depth and not full of b.s. i subscribed as well. Its been a long time since ive hit that button for anyone. Headed to that other site as well. Thanks again
That is awesome Cody! When I was younger and working in the oil fields of Texas I used to drive with the light bar on my work truck. Whenever I started doing that I never had any close calls with deer. Most of the time it gave the deer a heads up that I was coming.
Thanks for this video... just bought my truck and I’m living out in rural Ohio... I wanted to hook the bar, I’m going to buy, up to the high beams... this is super helpful
That's really slick, I never thought about wiring my lights like that! Thanks so much for the new idea, and I will be doing the same. What a wonderful set up. Thanks again.
This is similar to what I've been looking for. I live in the midwest on a lot of back roads and I like to light up the world when I'm watching for deer and other critters. I have all of my light bar and pods on a switch panel to be turned on/off independently, but have always wanted to be able to kill them all when I dim my high-beams, so I don't have to hit multiple buttons to turn them all off when there's an oncoming car.
I just Finally realised why I Love watching you so much!!When I was a Lil dummy back in the seventies I used to watch a series called EMERGENCY and my hero was Johnny Gage and you kinda look like him....just figured that out tonight...but what a discovery because I named my first boy Gage and didnt even know why....
Great vidio!! I was looking for a way to install my light bar without messing up the factory wire harnas this is just what I was looking for. Thank You so much and God Bless you and your family.
Harbor freight has really stepped up in the generators, and I have the 3500 model, for $699, and it is quieter than my Honda 2000, and it runs a big window AC unit for when my power goes out during a hurricane, and it runs a lot more than just the AC unit. It has electric start, and wheels. It is really nice, and I have many years in generators.
Thanks for another year of your creativity, sharing your family’s celebrations, and helping publicize alternative solutions so creators don’t have to bend to the tyranny of censors. Merry christmas.C
Your video helped me a lot! The only issue I ran into, while hooking up my light bar, was that there wasn't enough power to the high beam fuse to actuate the relay I used (car solenoid). To solve this problem I used a quick-splice harness and tapped into the high beam wire directly. It worked! Thank you
Cody, I love the fact that you have to remind people that we're all adults, we don't need comments about what not to do, and that we should always use best judgment with everything. I got a good snicker of you having to throw that out to the "Safety Sallys" as you call them!
We live on a farm, and for a generator we use a tractor pto powered trailer unit. Our power utility pole has a special cable that plugs into our generator that is rated for the power we use (since running water for our cattle is important). The nice thing about it is we can use wall outlets and 220v equipment without running extension cords. The only downside is you have to run it with a tractor that may be loud (our New Holland t7.235 isn't 😁). The tractor can run for longer periods however, and we also use the generator to plug our stick welder in to occasionally fix steel fence remotely.
Ah now I'm off to wire up my air horns for the van. A different sound gets their attention and the quicker they move off the road. Great idea about the separate fuse. Happy Christmas to you and your family. Looking forward to another year with you guys.
The visual explanation greatly helped me understand how I can rewire my reverse pods (to turn on to deal with tailgaters and such) and how to wire some new lights I plan to add soon. I doubt I'll ever rewire my lightbar like this although it would be very nice. I like my Sasquatch rocker switch too much to get rid of it. That piggy back fuse seems like it will be a great help as well
You should look into the Champion Digital Hybrid generator. It has a larger tank than most and can last like 16 hours at 50% load on one tank. It is very economical on fuel because it can rev up or down with throttle control depending on the load. I believe it is rated for like 3800 watts so it can easily power a full size fridge, chest freezer, 8k BTU window a/c, fan, modem, router and TV. I know because we have done it for a week at a time. Supposedly the champion generator is a Honda clone. It has been 100% reliable for hundreds of hours. My buddy has one with hundreds of hours as well and it also has not had a issue. The reviews are very good as well. Best part is, it's only about $600. They are also fairly quiet too because of the lower idle speed.
Cody I am sure glad you put the link for bit Chute because I would have never found it otherwise since I cannot spell as well as I read! I love the old style toggle switches! There easier to find than a black button on the dashboard which I find hard to see in the dark! If they had lighter colors I could find them in the dark! I know they wouldn’t be as slick looking but they would be more user friendly. I have been wanting to get a generator for a long time but I can’t justify it with the family but still feel like its better to be safe than sorry for not being prepared ahead of time. Cody I like what you are doing with your new back up system with all your videos! A wise person always tries to think about the what if’s especially with the changing tides of You Tube!! You ant pay for peace of mind if you don’t have a backup plan for many the most important things that might make all the difference in your life and taking care of your family and helping others that might need your help in a pinch!
It's worth mentioning that when you use those fuse taps the wire should be connected to the cold side of the fuse so that if the wire grounds out it's protected by the fuse. I'm sure yours is connected that way but those watching may not know.
We are going to install two of these light bars onto our new house under the eve, to illuminate the rear yard. Should be fantastic to light it up like a stadium....
Good idea on the three-way switch wiring for your light bar! Hope to do that soon on my plow truck when I have time. Thanks for introducing us to Bitchute and explaining why you are uploading there. As a fellow creator, I've also been nervous about having all of my content on TH-cam and nowhere else, so I'm definitely going to start creating a backup there myself as well. Stay warm!
I love how you can put the nay sayers and keyboard warriors in their place before the video has even finished! That’s a wealth of experience uploading to TH-cam speaking right there. I loved the visual aid that really helped me.
Great video and it is nice to see someone demonstrate the correct way to wire something like this up to often you see videos of people wiring lights up in a way that you really should not do nice to see it done correctly
That's really clean man, I was going to just add one of those old floor high beam switches for my dog lights but I'm going to go with this set up. Thank you! I don't like ghetto.
I have an $80. Harbor Freight, Cheapest, 2 stroke, 900 Watt surge, 800 watt continues watt Generator made? It is now 9 years old. I have used it Dry Camping as a Snowbird down on Arizona, 2 winters running it 5 to 8 hours a day. It had sat in my Barn, over the last 3 years. My power was out "again" the other night, I filled it with Chain Saw Gas and ran it 5 hours with only 2 pulls to start it. Buy 2 keep one in the box , ready to go. Hint, 100 foot cord, around corner of barn and plywood sheet places to deflect sound.........as quiet as a Honda 1000 @ 100 feet away, $800. bucks cheaper.
You can't go wrong with a Honda small engine. Hands down. My lawnmower's, generator's, gas water pump, rototiller leaf blower etc are all Honda. Lightwieght, quiet, easy to use, and the lawnmower (walk behind) is so easy to use my elderly (in her 70's) mother still mows her own lawn using the Honda I bought her for Mama's day 6 years ago.
Hi friend, your video was really informative and well presented. You deserve your....what? 1.45 million subscribers! Wow, you’re a star! Anyway, great video!
oh i thought i needed to cut into the high beam harness on the headlights to make this possible. thanks alot! helped me out before i did something stupid

I bet that adventure van is impressive in the dark. The small generator is a neat idea. I may invest in one of those at some point. The larger ones we have are irritating to move around. Neat wiring demonstration :)
As always, enjoyed your video, thanks for teaching. I do have a question if you don't mind. If you use a led lighted switch, it requires a ground, and a hot in and a hot out to your lights. So you used a non-lighted switch and put three hots into a three way switch? Thanks again.

I love the old videos! Lots of good information, no drama, more about content than production value, not trying to be tv. When youtube was great!
3 way switch. Nice. You have both factory and off-road lighting systems. Sweet setup.
Relays are great.
I'm only 14 an im an visual learner came from an axe vid so this may help me when I'm adult
Why is he using a solenoid if relays are great?
@@jarmik3758 that is a relay
@@zeppelin926 In Finland that's called starter solenoid, light switch relays are much smaller here.
honestly i wasn’t a fan of the adventure van but after all this stuff i have to say you’ve done some amazing work and makes me want to buy one myself

Just watched the WranglerStar 3-way switch with the piggy-back fuse routine for wiring my lights... Brilliant!

Down here in Australia thats the standard setup also law, to have light bars/spotties only on when the high beams are on and off on low beam.
Same in Europe

skaharn it you can’t trust a man to not drop expensive electronics can you trust him to run a platform?
Wow This is great! Thanks Cody
great video thank you. May I ask - do I just use the existing lighting relay or does this require adding another one specifically for the led's?
Hey thanks for the upload and keep the great videos coming.
Merry Christmas
I have a Toyota
Normal connection of the relay:
Plug 30 = 12v plus via 15A fuse Socket 85 = soil socket 86 = control current from current thief on the long-light cable via switch
Plug 87 = plus cable for the extra lights
If you switch on the SJ like this you will scratch your head quite a bit. The lights do not work until you turn the ignition off in curse, in turn they light pretty fiercely ...
The solution is simple: Instead of control current, use "control words" and connect as follows:
Plug 30 and 85 = 12v plus from the battery via 15A fuse close to the battery (important!)
Plug 86 = ground from power thief from the wire on the light bulb that loses voltage when the long light is turned on, that wire is now ground. Connect it via switch in the dashboard.
Socket 87 = Plus lead for the extra lights as usual.
Merry Christmas Cody
