    I love this game. One of my favorite new coop games, even as a 2-player game.

      @@minimumplayercount4099 It plays quickly, it still tells a story, very thematic, and it has lots of problem solving moments which I love. I like the card mechanism where you don't know exactly what is coming, but you can estimate a bit due to the backside of the cards.

    Looks like a streamlined Robinson Crusoe;
    Seems an excellent gateway to present to someone BEFORE bringing RC to the table, if you can enjoy Paleo it is worth bringing forth RC.

    • @pesmerga275
      @pesmerga275 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. Robinson is a mutual top 5 for my wife and I for many of the reasons described about this game (though RC seems funnier perhaps?). If we hadn't gone all in on RCs massive amount of content, I'd probably be clamoring for this game.

    So, just jumped on this after seeing the SUSD review and researching it some more. I had one proposition that might add a bit more tension for the dummy variant:
    1)The players share the dummy player's components
    2)When deciding which card to pick to reveal, both players will reveal their preferred choice (can do a blind bid or just commit to your choice)
    3)If both player's choices are different, simply reveal the card that neither player chose. Otherwise, go with the path that the players agreed on.

    Interesting ideas. It's funny that BGG users rate the 2-player experience as "best" (with 3 players closely behind).

    Complains on a very high level. I've played it only solo simulating a two player game. And was so impressed by the choices I had to make - even at two player count. Shall I kill the mammoth now or tomorrow? Shall I take one wood and save the card for tomorrow or get three wood now for crafting items but this means I run faster through the deck/day...
    I going to play the game with my group at the weekend and I hope Rahdo is right and the game elevates even more. I can imagine that this doesn't has a alpha player problem like so many coops out there.

    • @monkeyunit4533
      @monkeyunit4533 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No alpha gaming in making the card choice, but after that everything is open information?
      So alpha gamer could still try and decide for all players which option to pick on their cards.

    • @eckhardheym7425
      @eckhardheym7425 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes correct but my hope is that when think about your card choice you should have an idea why you choose. So an alpha player has to discuss his opinion so my guess...

    Looks really cool, reminds me of that much simpler game that you've already made a walkthrough in your channel, where you have to gather resources, in the beginning, and at the end you're fighting pirates. Maybe the name was Friday?

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      friday is a good comparison game for sure :)

    • @stacie_everdell
      @stacie_everdell 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Friday is a deck building game. There are no resources. You basically start with a really bad deck of cards and you have to be skillful in how you culminate it down to a superb hand that is strong enough to complete the final phase and then beat the pirates.

    Would you consider the dummy player house rule for your two player games?

  • @JaVinci77
    @JaVinci77 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't know about the player count... it could easily lead to AP.
    And having played this game solo... I can only say that this is one of the best (if not the best) solo game I've ever played, and my collection is not small.
    This, in my humble opinion, is one of the best games published in a very long time (although maybe I'm a little biased, I'm a sucker for co-operative games, so...)

    Hi Richard
    I thought your preference for playing two-player games was partly because you and Jen lived in Malta. But now that you moved to the US why not being in more people and expand your experience?

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      mostly because i prefer playing 2p with my wife. faster, not worried about being "entertaining", etc.

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      i do think it would work. arguably it makes the game a little bit harder because you have one teammate potentially making ill timed choices, but there's several ways you can adjust the game to be easier to compensate (like the 'more supplies' rule i demonstrated)

    • @Nain1982
      @Nain1982 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rahdo yeah, i can see that. The variant you suggested could work. Only dealing one card would make sense, I guess the only issue would be dealing with the neutral's player characters, but shouldn't be too bad. Great observation about the 2p, I agree that at more players it would gain just because of having more cards/options. Either way, I'm really intrigued with this game. Not a big fan of coops, but really enjoyed watching the playthrough and turns seem to go so quickly and engaging. Really liked that concept of resolving card's effects or supporting others to resolve theirs.

    Although, playing as two players, each player will have more time each day, before you have to pay the extra night cost.
