Hey Zee, thanks for the review.
Just a few comments from our testing: We tried a tracker for the groups stats. What happend is not only that people forgot to use it, but they also checked that tracker every turn again if correct. So in the end, they did the calculation anyway...
As for the tableaus (and the ideas-workbench) understandably, sometime the question comes up if they are more than needed. We saw people getting better into the game with destinations to sort things. So a place where X or Y happens helps to get the idea behind the mechanic. If all is free, many people are "lost" and have a hard time to understand the logic behind it. At the base cave, there are new team members, ideas and dream cards, as that is where your tribe lives. At the outside, there are the cards you discard, as that is what you do in the world and where you spend your time (discarded cards) and so on.
As for the ideas, they are vital in the game. Later on you have to use the mechanic of generating things from there. If those ideas just lay flat, they often got over-lokked by people, so we wanted to give them more attention. This might make more sense in the later levels. As we didn`t want people to re-built this "complicated" thing and hinder the start of the next game, the box had to get a certain size. Also you know there are standards that make sense in many ways.
So you see, most of it has it`s reasons ;). Many things you already saw perfectly as they were intended to be, but you are always welcome to check with us if you have questions on how a product came into live.
    Enjoy everyone, Moritz

The night being short makes sense.
Working during the day seems to take a lot longer then just eat and sleep. When you sleep time goes by a lot faster.

Love you Zee. Your tastes are closest to mine in the Tower. You got me into Onirim, SO GOOD.

Zee's comparison at the end was more or less what I was thinking about for the whole review. :) Seems like a cool game.

Great review, thanks Zee. I for one like all the extra bits. The ideas-workbench to me is similar to the tree in Everdell. Perhaps not essential, but a wonderful touch if you have the room for it. And I do like how it organizes things at camp. I'm not sure what your feelings were on the E. tree, I just know you are a fan of the game. :)

Throughout that review I was constantly thinking “this sounds like a simpler Robinson Crusoe”. When you mentioned having to infer the them, I thought “sounds like Lost Expedition” - and then you mentioned exactly those two.
I sold RC in the end because it was too much effort to set up and relearn - though I really enjoyed my plays.
I sold LE because it’s just terrible.
I think this one might hit my sweet spot.

Who'd know this one would win the KDJ. I'm glad to see more cooperative games being awarded.

No Paleo video has ever shown how the victory painting parts show up.
Still, Zee is my favorite! :)

My thoughts exactly Robinson Crusoe light + a little bit of Lost Expedition. Two of my favourite coops.

The question is, if I have Paleo, should I late back Robinson Crusoe, or are they too alike? 🤔

Is it a playmat or background just happened to match that much? Have an eye on the game and would love to have same/similar set up. Thanks.

We played it yesterday and it was interesting and disappointing at the same time.
I loved the choose your path style of the game.
    The art is neat.
BUT we found it kinda repetitive and most importantly suffering from the alpha player syndrome.
Unfortunatelly this was a pass in the end.

Interesting. He gave the game all pluses but his words indicate that it should be blank for most everything. Sorta contradicting.

Reminds Zee of Robinson Crusoe, my favorite game of all time, and Lost Expedition, my most played game? You son of a bitch I’m in.

Zee, I like your reviews, but I don't get the assessment system. It's weird to me to end with "and lastly, tactics, strategy, luck, all of that stuff", since that is actually more important than all the other 5 criteria combined. A game is a series of interesting choices. There is usually no point in playing a game without choices that involve interesting strategic, tactical or risk assessment (luck) considerations; not sure I would even call that a game. Whereas you might still play a game without theme/aesthetics or that's hard to play (e.g. abstracts).
Why don't you start with tactics/strategy instead and make it the main focus?

There are people that really care about the other stuff, I for one am a sucker for theme, and I really really really care for replay value. He talks about them in that order (I believe) just because that's his T.A.R.G.E.T. system, but he'll stay as long as he feels he needs in each one, so the order doesn't really matter.

    • @nerdyjawsh
      @nerdyjawsh 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Yea I mean it just depends what you like? I love theme. Wingspan has amazing mechanics and I would love to play it.... If it wasn't about birds. That theme just bores me. I played it once and probably won't ever play again anytime soon. Theme and aesthetics is just as important, if not more important to some peope.
