I'm not going to say this is good value or mention it is a budget board, because we all know that is BS and I won't lie to you and say this even makes a lot of sense when AM4 still exists. But for some people who just need a low power, quiet but powerful machine that can idle at almost ambient room temp, the Intel 13th gen processors with a board like the MSI MAG B760 Tomahawk DDR4 Wifi might be just what you are looking for. Strangely it was for me, and i'll explain more in the video.

@@mikesunboxing Haha! By the time *I* get around to doing it, we'll probably be looking at expensive DDR6 and cheap DDR5, with DDR4 in our rear-view mirrors (kinda how DDR3 is these days). 😂
as someone who has a Z690 and X670 MSI board, both with DDR5, I'd say yes, go with the DDR5 if you can. It's now coming down in price - the RAM in my Z690 system cost just about twice what my X670 system cost a year later for the same amount of DDR5 RAM. The Tomahawk is a great board (although I went with Carbon)
kind of wishing i went with the carbon now it has dropped in price a lot here

I am holding off on ddr5. Unless you buy a very expensive kit you will end up replacing whatever memory you bought when you next upgrade as it will be cheaper and faster then. Same thing always happens if you rushed out to buy ddr4 2666 you still ended up replacing it with 3600.
Yeah I agree to some extent buying 4800 or 5200 is probably not a good idea unless crazy cheap 5600 and 6000 is like the 3200 and 3600 now I think
@Mike's unboxing, reviews and how to I think 6000 is closer to 2666. Its the top zen 4 will reliably do, however intels already pushing way past that too 7000 + the problem remains the cost of those fast kits.
I expect when 14th gen and zen 5 hit in a couple of years 7000-8000 will be the new cheaper mainstream standard and at those speed be faster than even well tuned ddr4.

Cant beat an MSI board.....even if it is an Intel one lol. Smart looking board though, that VRM heatsink is a beast ! Loads of great features on show here, bound to be popular with builders looking for performance at the right price. Thanks Mike and Kath 🙂

@@mikesunboxing don't think so intel finally got their act together and from a new build perspective cheaper but things change so rapidly you never know whether to wait and see whats coming out or take the plunge now

I understand intel boards are less flexible than equiv amd but this board does seem high spec with extra power del to aio pumps, gen 5 gpu's & heatsinks aplenty. Assuming someone would be purchasing this mb for new build, hence buying 13th gen cpu, why wud it still be ddr4? Surely with such outlay the extra cost of ddr5 wudnt matter! As you say prices have risen so if for purely gaming gives more reasons to use consoles which themselves were already overpriced🙄

I bought this mobo earlier this month for $160 USD with a $199 i5-13400 for $359 USD. I will using existing DDR4 and 1000-watt PSU moved over from another i7-7700K system so this was a great deal for me for a $359 upgrade from a i7-7700K non-gaming quiet daily driver cooled with a Noctua NH-L12S. Both MSI and Asus make amazing mobos at the Z790 top end, but for mid-range mobos like this, Asus quality control has worsened considerably during the past few years while still being premium-priced (and Asus Strix mid-range mobos are even worse quality for the price than their non-ROG mid-range boards). Both my B760 and Z790 builds this year are MSI mobos!
The Tomahawk cruise missile box art that MSI always references for their Tomahawk mobos of the past, instead of referring to the axe used by United States indigenous natives, is either distasteful during these warring times in Ukraine and the Middle East or is very relevant lol

I agree the boards are shocking I just upgraded to arous z790 master (wasn't cheap) but then neither was cpu 13900KF came from x570 taichi & 5950x

@@mikesunboxing My main sytem is aorus master z760 and i9-13900k with 32gb ddr5 64000 luckly I got the board of ebay for 290 as a non worker the guy had badly tried bios update so wouldn't boot, I just reflashed with lates bios and bingo back to life

I'd happily bet that the large majority of people still use SATA (I heard that M2 doesn't improve speed for operating system and browser but idk if that's true I'm not well informed about tech).
m2 are great gen4 x4 works fine if motherboard supports that gen windows runs far better than ssd
That was funny. I got the same problem with the MSI Z690 edge Ddr4 Wi-Fi motherboard. I went to the store and I got no manual, I took it back and They gave me another one. It was the same thing thenThey apologized. I went to a other store and they gave me the same thing. After the 3rd return We realized there it was no manual at all... lol
Yeah weird really I like having a physical manual as you might not have access to the internet or another computer because you are trying to build the thing without a manual
To be honest, I don't see Intel prolonging the 13th Gen. I think they're going to rush out 14th Gen in 2024 for Windows 12 which will be mostly AI based.

good board, but I just got a asrock b760 ddr 5 with wifi 6E 3 m2 gen4 with heatsinks 2.5 gb internet with sega sonic design for a cheap gaming pc for my son cost 170 and great little board (its a micro atx) fitted a I5 and 16gig crucial I had lying around he is over the moon

Hi Mike , just wanna ask I have a motherboard called MSI mag b550M mortax max wifi and a processor ryzen 5 5600x, should I Mflash the bios (motherboard itself without other components)? Just wanna make sure and also is it ok to use any usb ? (for example USB 3.2/ 32gb ) or should I use older usb (USB 2.0 / 8gb ) Thanks 🙏🙏
If the board is new it should have a ryzen 5000 series ready sticker and that means it won’t need a flash.

Will there be a time/years that I might need that button even if im using the 13th gen cpu? im not quite sure what thus that button do aside from making your cpu compatible with the mother board?
does this usb-c work with tablets or a monitor? I have the 13700K and im wondering if I need to even overclock it? this board seems like the best out of them all and 1 in stock left. mostly intesive editing workflow, i wont be gaming much at all on this build.

Hi im new to pc building and im about to build my b760 tomahawk wifi ddr4, do i need to download the latest bios in the support page which is currently "7D96v18" or just check if there will be any problem with current bios my motherboard will have? The MSI support service said only download it if there are abnormalities in my PC. can you give some advise if having the stock bios is better or the "7D96v18" is a must?
i would update to the newest bios as it will have the latest stabilty and compatibility issues sorted and more importantly it will have the security patches applied.

Did this come with the motherboard screws to mount on case cause mine didn't. Also I see that It has 2 CPU connectors do I have to plug the CPU cable in both or only one.
only one is needed but if you have two use them, and no case mounting screws never come with the motherboard always the case
Thanks for quick reply I tried using only one and then both but didn't make any difference in games. Also I mean the screws that connect the motherboard to the case I had to use the ones from my old motherboard because I couldn't find them in the box.
if I'm going to put a i5 13500 do i even need a bios flash back for that motherboard? what is the cons of not having a bios flash back on a motherboard that already support the 13th gen out of the box? is there any possibilities that i need the bios flash back on that motherboard with the 13th gen cpu?
should work straight out of the box, but i would recommend updating the bios due to security and stability factors

I just purchase it and it is not working, I need to update the BIOS, plus in the MSI page shows in the bios updates that the lastest update will enable compatibility of the last CPU gen.
Can you use ALL M.2 Slots without losing somekind of performance or something like that? I known we lose sata 7 in this board if we use slot 3. Thanks
there will be some loss due to the lanes splitting, but unless you are benchmarking you probably won't be able to tell
