MSI is the benchmark for consumer mobos in my opinion, cant really go wrong with them and the BIOS GUI is some of the best out there. Thanks Mike and Kath.

Nice to see how every generation the "model name" spec improves. B550 gaming plus look entry level whereas this Z790 versions looks high spec. With all those m.2s no need for sata ssds. yeah the price keeps rising with the specs though :-) no shared PCIe lanes the Z790 chipset fills in the gaps where needed. and PSU wise i would think 650w or more really for a balanced system, you don't really need the extra EPS CPU plug unless you are really gunning it
7200mhz is the staple and the best bang for your buck ram... you get huge improved 1% lows and higher over all frame rate. Personally bought this motherboard and tbh its everything you need. this motherboard in my opinion is the best bang for your buck z790 motherboard. Great purchase if you do decide to snag one!

Hi Mike, right in time with this review as I wanted to purchase it myself for my 14700k build. I have one dilemma: I wanted to get 32 gb of corsair 7200 mhz ram but for stability reasons i am inclined to go for the 6000 mhz ones. What is your take on this? Would i be ok with the 7200 ones?

I have this motherboard and my 14700k with a frequency of 5.5 works fine on it, as well as RAM with a frequency of 6400 also works well without errors. I did not overclock the RAM above, since I do not see the point in this
Hello Mike were you able to figure out the bottom PCI Express if it was X 4 or X1? I have the same board with a sound blaster ZX sound card in it, do you think you would make any difference using the X1 slot versus the X4 slot? Because my graphics card is too big and I don't have enough space to put it in the third slot so it has to be on the very last fourth slot. Also did you ever end up releasing a bios video about this board I'm new to MSI and that would have been handy, thanks.
Hi there, since you removed the heatsinks on the vrms, any chance you can tell us the phases name or at least the amperage of them? For the PRO series, MSI specify 55A phases, here they don't. Thanks in advance.

Currently, the Tomahawk is cheaper and has bad reviews on Amazon compared to the whole Z7xx line of MSI mobos. I think this is the way to go without buying the unnecessary $400 models.

@@mikesunboxing The first PCI slot doesn't work. The first Nvme M.2 slot does not work. There are audio issues. The RGB has been finnicky. Possibly Mystic Light and Icue software conflictions on this last issue.

amps X phases = maximum potential wattage. Does your CPU of choice need that much wattage? Ideally in the perfect world you would buy a board with may more capacity than you need. I have ran benchmarks between this and the tomahawk and it is nearly indentical

i am running 6400 lexar rgb ram at the moment and it is fine. 7200 should be fine also with intel, for AMD i would stay at 5600 or 6000
I really wished more boards had a CMOS reset button on the I/O shield, especially for the guys who love to tinker with BIOS settings.
yes that would be good. you can also wire your reset button on the case to the cmos reset pins to to the same thing

500 euros isn't a lot for a whole pc especially if you are aiming at z790 levels. maybe join in the discord chat to get some ideas

bottom slot seems to be x4 i have a avermedia 4k capture card in mine and it all works as it should
Even with a MSI Z590 Pro Wifi that i got. then you can't go wrong with a Z790 from MSI 👍

I got this one few months ago. It cause 17400K get hot instantly. I don't know why. I alret change lite load to the lowest amd still can't help.
