Hi Willie - it’s Big Rodders in Ireland. On both my SH350i and Monkey I’ve got into the habit of waiting until the clocks do their little dance and various whizzes and clicks come to an end before I press the starter button. Nobody ever told me to do this but I’m just happier with this habit. Perhaps I should also wait a bit longer before moving off in future. However, one time I revved the SH a little on the centre stand to warm it up but the revolving rear wheel compared to the stationary front one confused the ABS brains, stopped the motor and threw up a red light. I had to trailer the machine 30 miles to the Honda agent who reset whatever was necessary to get me going again. Needless to say I haven’t tried that again!
Keep your chin up and thank you for doing these videos. It's great that we can share our thoughts with each other. It's brave to put up videos on TH-cam because of the nasty comments people can make. Once again, thank you and keep it coming, and by the way, stop fiddling with your ECU, lol.
You gotta do what the hell you like...I'm an old Fart of 70plus, but I put a chip on my old Kuga to up the BHP, and Torque, and it irons out all the "Factory" flat spots....manufacturers can't always give you the optimum....I subscribe to Volcanic Brown, and I also advised him to ignore the Tw*ts and just keep doing what he's doing, for the benefit of posterity....
Wonderful channel & insight Willie 👍 Those of us whose birth year begins with 19 understand that motorcycles have undergone modifications, including tuning, since the inception of.. motorcycles. Tuning is a fundamental core principle of making any device operate properly. On a micro scale, even oil changes fall into this category, and certainly valve adjustments and tire pressure monitoring. Carb tuning has historically been a sure fire method, along with proper exhaust and intake flow, of maximizing efficiency and performance. The ECU on a new motorcycle is exactly the same; in the hands of a knowledgeable tuner, an ECU flash transforms the bike in a good way. My 2024 XSR900 has an engineered flat spot in second gear; I suspect this is by design to meet Euro 5 emissions standards. A quick reflash by a reputable tuner will remedy this, warranty be damned. This is my 46th motorcycle in 55 yrs of riding and I have never let worrying about voiding a warranty hamper my riding enjoyment, especially with Japanese motorcycles. With Italian motorcycles, I am a bit more cautious, perhaps waiting six months or so.. 😂 Sharing via TouTube is a commendable thing, thanks for helping the riding community with your information; it does, however, bring out the nasty people. 'Life is short; invalidate warranties!' needs to be on a T-shirt. Enjoy your beautiful Z900rs with its engine properly tuned, the way any race team or proper shop would have a Kawi in-line 4 done, whether carburated or injected. 👍
Hi glad the bikes ok now I was sorry to here you had a upsetting email I love the channel and all ways make my day keep up the good work I have been told royal Enfield are coming to orwells so very exciting God bless

Thanks Ben, I think I may have given out the wrong vibes in my video! I don't care about the trolls, I just block them and move on, it does make me think for a moment though! I was more upset for Volcanic Brown tbh... In my opinion you have THE best colour z900rs!! I can't say that out loud obviously!!!
Hi Willie, I’m glad your issue has worked itself out. It amazes me how human decency has completely disappeared on social media. It’s always someone who feels they can say whatever they want because he/she can hide their identity. These people are simply cowards and it’s best to ignore them. Anyway, ride safe and keep the videos coming. I need them since it is now winter here in Canada and my Z900rs is hibernating. All I can do is watch TH-cam videos and pray for an early spring. 😊
Interesting, useful info for fellow RS owners. I went 16t sprocket route, much smoother etc, £14.50 + fitting. What a difference. Even smoother than your T120 - & I know from experience! 😉 Coincidence or what? I had same response (best laugh etc) to a response I made on a motorbike touring channel about receding Grossglockner glacier. Sign of the times 😮💨. Again, your bike, you do what you want. Me? Shad pannier rails for touring, next its top box for my Stelvio trip. Spoils looks, but I can’t see them when I’m riding. And I want to tour on it. Enjoy.
Hi Willie. I had exactly the same problem on a Versys 1000. It turned out that the KTCS got confused along with the ABS sensor as i ,after washing the bike i turned it on and as it was on the centre stand ,i put it in first then second and happily watched the wheel going round(just to make sure it wasn't wobbly he he). This action confused the system as it couldn't figure out WTH was happening. Was told by my dealer to take it a couple of runs and it would sort its self out...and it did. Hope this helps..Did you do this sir??
@@2wheeledwillie395 Brilliant Willie. I was very concerned when it happened but was happy and understood why it did so when my Kawa Dealer sorted me out. Great Channel ,keep it up
Hi Willie, I modified my T100, remapped the ECU (using Tune ECU) because I changed the silencers - silencers is the wrong term. My problem is paying insurance for these mod's when declared humps up my premium and I'd rather say I have the mod's than invalidate my insurance if found out after a claim. I get the feeling I'll always be on the loosing side, and I'm actually thinking it may well be less hassle to go back to OEM spec. Devitts declined to insure me when I was asked if the silencers were approved for road use, and I could not lie. How are you fixed having remapped? Regards Andy.
Hi Andy, yes it's always a gamble with insurance companies to what the premium is going to be for a remap etc.. I paid an extra £100 insurance premium when I told them about the remap
Glad that the issue with the Zed sorted itself out. With all the electronics and sensors on vehicles these days, it's not surprising that the occasional teddy is thrown out of the pram. 😂😂 I seem to remember a number of years ago the report of a guy that used to ride up to a nice viewing point, but when he came to leave, his bike wouldn't do anything. He rolled the bike half a mile back down the road, and it then started ok. It happened every time that he visited this place. The rumour was that there was a military radar or communication station nearby, and the signals from that were jamming the immobiliser on his bike! If I remember the story correctly.
The guy that sent that email is an idiot. It isn't that people know better than the manufacturer, its that the manufacturer can't make each motorcycle with a custom tuned ecu within the economics of mass production. As even the tightest engineering standards will still result in each engine being slightly different, a custom tuned ecu will almost always result in an improvement. Some times a substantial improvement, as the bike may have unnecessary restrictions to comply with standards not applicable.
Personally I agree about the remap, especially invalidating the warranty. But at the end of the day it's your bike , your life, your money, your choice, no one else's . If I don't like a youtuber or their content I simply don't watch them, there's no need to send abusive comments. Now you think you know what caused the fault you should try to replicate it to see if comes up again (just for peace of min). If you paint garage door green will there be an old piano playing behind it?😂Keep these chats coming thoroughly enjoy them. Can't beat a bit of idle chit chat.
Well im glad its fixed bud, shes a beauty, & yeah muppets , I get them occasionally on my channel also, but as you say , To sit there and spend the time to write an email just to spit hate is beyond me, I don't know the other channel you mentioned, but feel for him , that really sucks..Cheers mate all the best
Hi Willie, great to hear you have got to the bottom of the issue on your zed. Nothing more frustrating than not knowing the what the problem is. On another subject, I noticed the IOM TT brake reservoir sock. Do you visit the TT regularly? Fairly new to your channel so I just wondered!
@@jamesdspaderf2883 doing your own service does not affect warranty, at least here in the States. Just have to keep our receipts and document the mileage when it was performed. YMMV depending on where you live.
@@pinkiewerewolf good to know, I wonder how that would pan out in the event of a claim. And, what receipts am I keeping? Parts n stuff? Do I bill myself for labor?
@ If you have a claim you just turn in the receipts with the date you performed the service. You could bill yourself. If you do I’d throw in extra and buy yourself something nice. 😁
Re the error code lights: sounds like the correct diagnosis. These kinds of things happen when we make machines that are smarter than us who use the machines. As for the muppets-feck ‘em, as the Irish say. Cheers!
Sad that some people have to be negative, I'm looking forward to buying a full system for my Street triple and getting More Moto to map and free up the engine. Finally got out on my bikes yesterday after 7 weeks out of action, big smile back on my face. Cheers Willie.
Knew it. See it all the time on the Z900 Facebook page. Luckily you didn't have to go to the dealership for them to reset the code error, as many have on the standard Zed. Although they says 3 ride cycles will usually clear it. In case it happens again 👍
Great news about your bike and that it's not faulty. Maybe add 'Z900RS KTRC Fault' to your title or description so people searching on here or googling can find it and be much happier!
@@2wheeledwillie395 Google my name, Paul silson, and , Motorhead appreciation club,of, America. Lem was a personal friend of mine. I worked for them and girl school back in the day .
The start sequence is usually in open loop map until engine temp gets up to around 40°C give or take. The lambda has a heater that takes a bit of time to reach operating range. The ecu then goes into closed loop map taking the information from all the sensors. Throttle position sensor is generally set independent of the map. MAP sensor is live from the ignition on and part of both maps. High idle and rich is the quickest way for the ecu to get itself together. Remap is for closed loop so start up is relatively unaffected. Fault codes are for everything outside the pre determined limits. It's not rocket science. The V8 Norton project is almost certainly running open loop for a 4.0 V8 , My AJ 4.0 V8 will easily burn a gallon of premium in the first 5 minutes from cold but will do over 35mpg on a run in closed loop. There are variables and exclusions to everything so it's an outline only.
@2wheeledwillie395 Don't give up so easily. There are 2 states of the firmware map that get programmed into the ecu. The map for the cold start is called open loop. O/L. In the cold engine state, the computer decides on a rich mixture/choke and high idle. It's switched to the programmed/remap when it's warm enough to use the sensors in the exhaust and inlet. Closed loop C/L. The Air to fuel ratio is where the money went for the remap. Overall, it will run cooler and should be better than kawasaki were allowed to use. They are hobbled by regulations, nothing to do with knowing more or less about it. I know just enough to stick with carburettors.
People have complained of similar errors on various bikes, if you don't let the clock complete its sweep cycle before pressing the starter. Sparks, eh? I watched Volcanic Brown's film that was taken down, and saw no reason for the abuse. He showed how to fix a blocked pilot jet on his iron barrel 350, and ended up finding an air leak. All good stuff. He was trying to do the maintenance with one hand and film with the other, because he doesn't own a tripod. Not ideal, but anyone interested could follow what was happening. A shame if he takes the channel down because there aren't many people as knowledgeable about older REs as VB.
Just watched Volcanic browns video and I also saw the video that he removed, there was nothing offensive with his video. There are some sad people out there. Glad you sorted the Z900 Willie :) It's going to be a keeper I'm sure!!!??? :)
@@2wheeledwillie395 Hahaaa Never. It's in hibernation in my garage covered in ACF50, also the Vstrom 1000 is hibernating and covered in ACF50, but the Himalayan was covered in ACF50 but is not hibernating and is covered in crud. It's my Winter bike, brought new over 5 years ago. They are all "Keepers" Willie :) As you can see I have "Painted" all my bikes but painted with ACF50 :)
Good stuff glad it’s sorted. Still think my comment was better tho lol. Take no notice of these muppets Willie I’ve mapped a few of my bikes and never had a problem. Not saying it couldn’t happen but where I’ve had mine done these guys know them inside out and have done so many they know what code can come up etc after a remap. When I had my Gen 2 VMAX done Mark at BSD took it out as he said sometimes these can throw up a code after a remap so wanted to be sure it was ok before giving it back to me it now has over 181 bhp at the back wheel and 120 lb/ft but the best bit is it’s fuelled correctly at all throttle openings and smooth
All reet me mon , if that light comes back on do like people do on enfields start from cold leave on tick over for ten mins so the ecu resets it self , dosn,t cost any thing worth a try , any way garage door paint it white and see how many people send you stickers have a sticker door i think that would be a good thing to film in front off
Glad you got to bottom of the issue.m Can’t understand why, folk want to come and derogatory comments. I personally love all the motorcycle channels big and small, if it’s not for me, then just don’t watch. We all do tasks and work on our bikes differently, as we are all individuals. Folk that post these bad comments are obviously sad, and got nowt better to do. I like and try and comment on all posts, as it helps that person. It’s like a family, or it should be. Best wishes.😊
That email guy sounds a right Muppet and doesn't know what he's talking about. My mate has been remapping bikes on his Dyno for years and never had any problems. What a remap does is actually make the engine run correctly and how the manufacturers design it. All the emission laws actually strangle the engine. If the Dyno guy doesn't know what he's doing then yes it can damage it but it's no different to fitting a part that's wrong for the bike. You said you'd checked out the Dyno place you took it to so that's perfect. Oh and remove the fairing 😊. But it's your bike not anyone else's so do what you like and sod anyone else. Have a nice day.
Willy its an electronic gremlin in your dash as for the emailer ah tell him about the bleach game bet him you can drink more than him: but he has to go first😂❤😅......
Yeah, recognised problem when you remap your bike. The KTRS has sensed that now your ossillating torque condenser is out of phase and will need a new grunion pin to rectify it.😂
Will how about kawasaki catchphrase on your garage door. Let the good times roll. Look nice on the green door. You better check I got the catchphrase Wright 😅. Big thumbs up 👍
I saw Volcanic Brown's original video and his subsequent one. Why anybody would give him abuse for it or even a thumbs down just completely defeats me. I'm sure you had good reasons for re-mapping your bike, far be it from me to comment on it. I've given you a thumbs up for this one too, I'm glad that it wasn't a significant fault.
Thanks Will 👍 yep the remap is a game changer imo.. Eliminates the snatchy throttle completely, changed the severe engine braking and makes it a total joy to ride 👍😊
I always give a thumbs up to the channels I watch, Willie, but apparently a "thumbs down" also counts as a result with TH-cam. I suppose it's a register that the video has been watched and caused a response.
You've got a great channel Willie, don't let one comment spoil your day, you'll never please everyone!! I have a Honda NT1100 (manual) it was so snatchy at low speed when I first bought it, I enquired about having it remapped, I couldn't really afford it at the time, oddly I don't really notice it now, it could be I have adjusted to it? Using premium fuel definitely helps. I love the Z900RS, seriously thinking of getting one, I know the other half will ride pillion as she's not keen on the NT, she says she is too high up! 😮
Thanks buddy, it hasn't spoilt my day it just makes me wonder about some people! 😂 Funnily enough I used to have a Scrambler 1200xc and my other half complained that it was too high for her... She absolutely LOVES the z900rs though 👍 I think I might have got used to the snatchiness but I knew that the remap would completely change the bike instantly and it did! Best bike I've ever owned
There are lots of haters willie but I ain’t one of them keep going buddy 🤝👌😜 painting your garage door Kawasaki green is great it reminds me of British racing green Triumph. Looking forward to seeing the new paintwork mate. Regards from a cold grey Birmingham. Jim
Does it on the z900 as well if you touch the throttle as you start the bike it will throw up a fault , just leave the throttle alone when you start the bike
Just liked, as instructed. 👍 As a bit of the thicky, I don't see the point in remapping. Tell us why remapping might be good. I'm even out of guarantee.
The original mapping on bikes is for emissions etc. Usually meaning the bike is not running as good as it could. My be a flat spot in the rev range my triumph falters at 5500 rpm. Remap the fault disappears
Thank you! 😃 So the way it was explained to me is having a bike remapped makes it like the bike should have been before all the euru emissions have been met.. So no snatchiness, no flat spots etc.. It worked a treat on my bike 👍
I would say everyone was partly right as it's a calibration issue. Some ebikes will throw codes if your feet are on the pedals when switched on. Rest assured you have not invalidated the warranty. What the manufacturer has the right to do is not honour a claim that is consequential to the modification. Also the aim of the remap is to remove the parts of the map that are lean for emissions compliance, so arguably it's a positive thing
Don't worry about warranty how would kawasaki know it's remapped. Also mr muppet needs to know manufacturer maps are governed by euro 5 not what's best for performance. As others say your bike your cash .hope the bikes ok 👍 keep em coming.
Hi (again)I watched Volcanic's video cleaning the pilot jet. I think for the lack of a tripod he didn't do himself any favours, I feel sad for him, no need to abuse, I like the old chap and politely left him a thumbs up! Maybe a tripod would be a little Christmas gift!
I had no idea a remap affected warrenty. Then why would I. My newest bike is 25 years old haha. I hate bikes. It seems like one is in the shop at anytime. Now its my Valkyrie Interstate needing a new alternator. $1200 is what Honda wanted for the part but turns out they cant even supply it. Lucky my guy sourced a new one from the US for $320 bucks once it arrives. Before that it was electrical bugs and then it was 3 grand on fork seals, tires and brakes in the spring. Before that the chopper having issues with the turn signals. Other bike needed front wheel bearings. blah blah blah. I hate bikes. Mind you its a chopper so who even needs turn signals on a chopper. How does your garage door open? It has no rails to go over your head. Man this Pineapple Im eating is good. Not as good as Mangos but nice none the less.

I saw that Volcanic Brown video and had the same perception as you. I'm shocked by the toxic nature of social media. Love your non-channel, ride on and have a wonderful holiday Willie!
Oh I didn’t know you had a problem Willie , it’s unusual for Kawasaki to go wrong . Modern technology, you would not have had that problem in the old day but of course we had other problems.
There is absolutely no excuse for derogatory comments/abuse. TH-cam *should* be able to filter out anything that is not constructive. Abusive comments tell you everything about the person who writes the comment and nothing about you.
If You Tube filtered out anything that is not constructive, most of these channels would disappear overnight! Also social media is not a good place for people who cannot accept criticism. People set these channels up and must accept the response, good or bad.
@@johnevans306 I think you're confusing criticism with rudeness mate.... I won't take rudeness in the real world so why should I on here?! As someone else said in the comments "if you have nothing nice to say then say nothing" that's how I behave and if I have the ability to block someone who is being rude and abusive then I will!
The way we talk to each other and handle disagreement is extremely important. Everything we say should be kind - kindness costs nothing - if you can't be constructive then best stay quiet, and maybe reflect on why you can't make your point in a constructive way.
Thats like the BSA, you cant start it and then rev it. On the BSA you also have wait for the clocks to perform the full sweep before thumbing the ignition. User error is a cause of a lot of bike issues. Good video buddy! 😊
Once sold Fender Telecaster on facebook - got loads of abuse for price i was asking - it sold for asking price - Plenty of sad experts out there who have done nothing & know nothing - nuff said !
Willie, I've never understood the phrase "You've made your bed so now lie on it" If you find your bed uncomfortable any rational person would sort it out, or go and sleep somewhere else.
I have a very small youtube channel but I had one video that got 78K views fairly recently. I got about a dozen rude and insulting remarks about my riding. I let them stay in the comments for about ten days. It seemed like the negative comments were driving other nasty comments so I finally removed those comments. From now on I'll remove those type of comments straight away. It is disturbing that there are people out there that feel it okay to write mean and nasty remarks.
That shouldnt happen at all since even bike manual says you shouldnt let the motor warm up but ride sensibly till the motor reaches optimal temperature. Midern bikes with millions of sensors sometines do that which is stupid since tech should make life easier and not complicate it
Hi Willie… just a thought about the garage door situation. As you appear to spend some time your garage (making great videos) you might want to consider putting reflective aluminium foil insulation in place rather than paint… I put it inside my garage door using double sided sticky tape and it does make a difference. Cooler in summer to. Glad you got to the bottom of the RS issue. 👍
Problem with modern bikes is they strangle them so much to get through Emissions that a remap or a tune improves them.If off warranty is no brainer if on warranty is owners choice nobody else's. Glad it all worked out for you Willie.
My early experience with my own website led me to review the effects that social media had on my mental health and relationships, and though there were some benefits the negatives were too frequent and challenging. I applaud and support anyone who puts their head above the parapet...
to be honest , you could start a knitting channel & end up getting abuse unfortunately . times we live in & because there is no face to face contact , some people feel that they can say what ever they want no matter how wrong or nasty it is.
Hi will have watched and liked volcanic browns vids although not subscribed, and cannot understand for the life of me what people find so offensive, if you don’t like something the content, the person, the machine they are working on, or even the way they are doing the job, just switch off !!!!! Simple ….. Pete 🇫🇷
I was train driver for 42yr. Someone In a discussion on a railway site said I did.nt know how to couple a locomotive to a train. Claimed he was a driver. Lot of nutters out there Willie.
I heard this too after new exhaust etc. Let the engine run for so long. The ECU will recognise something in the exhaust air to fuel ratio & make the adjustments etc. Let it run & turn it off after, I think the rad fan comes on. Triumphs were the same on speed tripples 1050 etc after suited bench file download.
My Triumph is very sensitive to low battery power. You won't notice the battery being slightly drained as it'll start fine. But the odometer / trip / time / fuel mileage window will always reset to odometer. Which means your battery is starting to go. So when I watched your video that was my first thought. Great bike the Z900RS. And yeah, trolls. Like Mike Tyson said. "People have gotten far too comfortable disrespecting people and not getting punched in the face."
A green door screen behind you will give you the opportunity to do amazing camera tricks, green screen graphics, some amazing star wars type adventures. I’ll look forward to that. Ignore the trolls, they are tiny minded and as we all know their appendages are even smaller.
Hi Willie, the curse of social media, years ago idiots were confined to their village, now they have been allowed a voice. Problem is they are still idiots. I saw VBs vid and it was fine, lighting was a little dim but he explained things in a very professional manner. I hope he keeps at it as his bikes and stories are often really interesting. Have a great Christmas, Cheers 👍
As to the identity of the muppet slagging you off, you'll probably get a few claiming to be the culprit. The following movie quote sprang to mind. "I am Spartacus"!!! As to the Volcanic Brown business, I watched his video, and the guy seemed pretty upset, and with good reason-there are some sad, sad people out there who revel in making others feel bad.
i have sent v.b. a nicer message in the hope he will continue ;; as for your door , they are painted in a light colour to keep the inside bright , you may regret a darker shade , yes i know you will ignore this , ha.ha ;;
Ignore the negative people Willie and keep up the good work 👍 Personally I wouldn’t make changes to my bikes that would invalidate the warranty but also I wouldn’t criticise people who do. Most of these keyboard warriors are shallow people who wouldn’t be as brave face to face….

Anyway, ride safe and keep the videos coming. I need them since it is now winter here in Canada and my Z900rs is hibernating. All I can do is watch TH-cam videos and pray for an early spring. 😊
Haha!! Thanks so much buddy 👍

What an awful email Willie , it was very sensible to remap your bike and it did solve your problem, take no notice of people like that Willie 👍👍👍

Enjoy.
Yeah it's so weird isn't it! Small Internet world! I'm looking at panniers myself, maybe only one though 🤔 nice to hear from you bud 👍
That's very useful thanks Brian, mine seems fine now, I've done 4 runs on it since

😂😂😂 The good old days Pete!
Wow! Love that story!! I'm sure I may have heard it before actually but can't place where
@2wheeledwillie395 - I can't remember where I heard it either, but, at my age, I struggle to remember what I had for breakfast by lunchtime! 😂😂😂
Thanks buddy 👍
Personally I agree about the remap, especially invalidating the warranty. But at the end of the day it's your bike , your life, your money, your choice, no one else's . If I don't like a youtuber or their content I simply don't watch them, there's no need to send abusive comments.
Not rocket science?!? 😂😂 You lost me at start sequence Theo!!.. Appreciate the content bud

You've got a great channel Willie, don't let one comment spoil your day, you'll never please everyone!! Using premium fuel definitely helps. I love the Z900RS, seriously thinking of getting one, I know the other half will ride pillion as she's not keen on the NT, she says she is too high up! 😮

As a bit of the thicky, I don't see the point in remapping. Tell us
why remapping might be good.

Yes you're right 👍
I would have to do that again with the throttle just to see if it does it once more
😂😂😂 I'm too chicken!!!
Don't worry about warranty how would kawasaki know it's remapped. Also mr muppet needs to know manufacturer maps are governed by euro 5 not what's best for performance. As others say your bike your cash .hope the bikes ok 👍 keep em coming.
