Bottleneck might be a nice mod to add, it adds a light to every machine that signals green if it's active and working. Yellow if it's unable to output. And red if it's lacking neccesary input. That way you can easily spot which machines aren't working. Especially useful if you have a large chain of machines that is running isn't outputting what you like it to do.
Bottleneck is one of my favorite mods because it's just simple and clear signalling of information that is already there but just annoying to look through. It just makes the experience smoother.
You should add "Afraid of the Dark", it is purely aesthetic and it really helps us see what you are doing by ramping up the light just a bit. Lamps will be lower priority for you in a series like this due to the hard constraints on power usage. PS: 2 Wood Pellets (12MJ) -> 3 Coal (8MJ) so they are not "way better", but rather "completely identical" :)
2 Wood Pellets x 12 MJ = 3x Coal x 8MJ, except that you use energy to turn Wood Pellets to Wood Bricks and fuel to turn Wood Bricks to Coal, so it is inefficient as a fuel source in that regard.
I've always loved your stuff, Z man, and I've finally decided to get into Seablock myself~ And while the start has changed a bit in the intervening six years, it's still almost comforting to see you go through similar thought processes as myself ♥
OMG I have been waiting for this!!!! This looks so fun and complicated. I am so happy to see you playing this, Z! I can hardly wait for more episodes!!!
You need the Squeak Through mod to allow you to pass through pipes and in between adjacent buildings. The other series...not so much, but it is worth the consideration for this one
Nah, the squeak through mod is just an excuse for bad design. It is more interesting to me to design layouts that allow me to walk around them. If I can't, then I designed it poorly.
Mohammad Hindi That wouldn't exactly work in the current version of Factorio, mainly because I tried it and it did literally nothing to make me clip through the machines. Just gonna give a tidbit on that.
Glad your doing a series on this mod, it's a whole different level of complexity and to have to literally have to build the whole base a real challenge, looking forward to watching the series.
So, I elect Zisteau most likely human to be able to rebuild humanity if there was ever an apocalyptic event that destroys all technology. After he plays all of these mods, he'll just inherently learn how to actually make everything.
I don't comment on your videos often, but this start is making me chuckle. The intro about chuckling of hammering a stone to have stuff to make a furnace, but I find it even more humorous that you need advanced processing plants to make a wood board in this specific instance. Just personally, I think the starting combo would be much more interesting if it started with just basic resources and if the mod had even simple stuff like tree farms. Something to get you those basic resources from a more basic start.
I know it's just a game but... *You can't burn Oxygen!!!* I can't stress it enough because for some reason so many people believe this. Burning as it is commonly understood is something (mostly Carbon) reacting with Oxygen. You can't have oxygen interact with itself more than it does by itself (pairing up to O2) without putting energy in.
*Zahlenteufel1* I'm not sure why there's a fire at all. That building is basically just a vent into the atmosphere. *Elbrasch* Liquids have to go in the clarifier, not the flare stack.
@David Guild In the beginning of Angels mod, it worked with the flare stack ;) And there is a fire in the animation as a nod to the practice of "burning of" gas on oil platforms/as a way of neutralizing many harmfull gases in real life.
Actually you can. Fire requires fuel, an oxiderizer (such as oxygen) and activation energy (heat or spark). The oxygen is consumed as it oxidizes the fuel in a process called "burning"... forming an ash (water (dihydrogen oxide), carbon monoxide or dioxide, metal oxides, etc.)
Him describing the production loops gives me terrifying flashbacks from when I was setting up aluminum in my factorio pyanadons playthrough, which I never ended up finishing, actually
So, I decided to try out Seablock. To put things in the right perspective, I'm not an hardcore Factorio player, I barely scratched trains and oil processing in vanilla. Now I'm understanding the true meaning of "spaghetti" and "THE FACTORY MUST GROW". Dear Lord, what have I done.
I'm incredibly excited for this series. I did something similar where any mining of ore wasn't allowed. The map is currently on hour ~150. Definitely a challenge but super cool to see it all work together!
You should get the Mod "Squeak Through" it allows you to walk between individual entities. So you could have a line of pipes and you could walk through any part of it, it does this with chest and anything else that would have stopped you.
So I've done the math, 8 wood pellets equals 4 wood blocks, the lowest conversion rate possible. That means 8 wood pellets go in and 8*12=96 MJ goes in as well. Every Wood blocks equals 3 coal. That means every 8 wood pellets will turn into 12 coal which also means that 12*8=96MJ goes out. Though processing of coal takes up fuel energy and as such is pointless as you get the same amount of fuel energy out of it. However you can then crush and refine coal into 2 coke each of which has a 5 MJ value meaning you end up with 10 MJ for each 8 MJ of coal you put in. Since this takes free solar energy you essentially gain free fuel energy. Furthermore you can refine 2 coke into 3 carbon each of which has 6 MJ which means that for each 8 MJ you get 18 MJ. Even when you subtract the energy lost by turning coal into carbon dioxide to refine the coke, you still get quite a few MJ.
Pro Tip: Early on, there is A LOT of waiting around for resources. Consider using the Lua command /c game.speed=X to speed things up so you don't have to wait forever. Default is 1, and with a small base I was able to handle X=40 easily
Yay! Someone else to 'nut it out'. I tried Bob's Mods a year ago, and my brain seized up. Zisteau will make it all work, I'm sure, but I literally have no idea how he's doing most of it -- the video series will be interesting.
Good, haven't you heard of the dangerous things that DHMO does to the body? Not only is it so addictive that addicts DIE without their supply, in too large doses it can cause the body to bloat and become unrecognizable after death
Isn't that the stuff they put into BLEACH? It is also highly corrosive, destroying untreated iron and steel. Imagine what it would do to your intestines if you drink it!
You literally can hit a rock to produce iron ore and smelt it without any further processing - Australia, for example, produces huge amount of this ore. It's more than 62% iron straight from the huge open-pit mines and it's shipped to smelters as pellets or just crushed ore.
I attempted to install this mod pack prior to your making this episode because I saw you were going to do it. It totally crashes at start. I see the tutorial pop up where you keep hitting TAB to get to the next screen and as soon as that finishes I get a fatal error that closes the game. So glad you got it working. You made it sound so fun and I really wanted to see it.
Butadiene is butane with the first and third carbon-carbon bonds doubled (unsaturated) so it's CH₂=CH-CH=CH₂ It's very useful if you want to make something with a ring structure.
In my start, I use the starting plates and my first few to craft some burner inserters, which help reduce the manual inserting in the beginning. A small thing but it helps early on. They can later be reused for if you set up steam power too.
so this is like photosynthesis. one set of processes to get base materials in useful forms, and a cycle used to convert the base materials into more complex forms with a little bit of excess
about those wood pellets being better than coal, they are actually the same since 8 pellets give you 4 bricks and each brick gives you 3 coal so appart from the energie lost by turning the bricks to coal it is the same total value since 8*12=96, 96/4=24, 24/3=8
You can already automate the crushed stone, fill a chest with one crushed stone per slot (by right clicking when holding a stack) and a normal inserter will work like a filter inserter
About the "walking around" part you should really get mod called "squak through". Once you try it you can no longer play without it. EDIT: also check out "what it's really used for" , "GDIW" and "helmod"

True qhat you say about real life. Ore must be crushes before it can be smelted, and it produxes slag as well as molten metal; the slag must be removed.
Actually coal is same efficency, because you use two pellets to make three coal. Of course there is the processing power required, but as soon as you get to coke it pretty much becomes worth it, especially if you then turn that into carbon.
WOW just WOW. This looks so cool and I know it will be a good series. But trying to do this my self in game will make my brain twist 3 times. I'm OK with just watching this very cool series 😊
Have you done a pure Angels/Bobs series i can watch... I got as far as blue science in my AB run and realized I'd messed up my design so I wanted to watch someone do it right.
You should get the Arumba lights mod. is meant for TH-cam to help with lighting especially since early game you don't get lights very easily in angels petrochem and metallurgy
I would suggest the squeak through mod, allows you to walk past/over pipes and between structures. Very useful, tho you are probably quite far in this series already.

To be fair, it's harder to start from nothing in Factorio than it is in Minecraft. No cobblegens. :)
Moreover, he's making all his resources out of water.

Oh god... Angels petrochem. Also known as the mod that makes grown men cry. This will be a lengthy playtrough.
It could be worse - he could also have the “Bobs Electronics” mod also activated.
Oh wait...
so GregTech for Factorio?
btRaddex Nah, there was somewhere Harder Petrochem or something like that.
oh joy.
Oh this pack has Petrochem, Angel's Smelting and Bob's Electronics, so this is great fun.
Ah yes of course, the whasmospaz. I remember my first time using a whasmospaz
And keep your foot off that blasted samoflange!

or.. ya know... use the console to turn on “always day“ :)
TheHector, that would be cheating massively in this modpack.
fair enough.. how do i start as in where is seablock under? scenarios or saved game
2 Wood Pellets x 12 MJ = 3x Coal x 8MJ, except that you use energy to turn Wood Pellets to Wood Bricks and fuel to turn Wood Bricks to Coal, so it is inefficient as a fuel source in that regard.
But you can upgrade coal to carbon, witch is better.

I love coming back to this series every now and then

I can confirm.
I've put fire in a bunch of oxygen, they've turned into water!
Zahlenteufel1 you can also burn off nitrogen in the game and, if it hasn't been fixed yet, any liquid, heavy mud water for example :P

You are a mad man. Good luck with t bobs and angels mods together, they can be super complex and fustrating.
You are absolutely crazy
But I will enjoy your descent into madness :)
The complexity is fun through, the mad part starts when you want to scale it up to any reasonable level of production...
Using space X... On a seablock mod... with Angels petrochem and refining...
Something tells me this is going to be a really long series.
It took me the entire length of that pre-video ad to read the summary. Thanks for that lol
Rolled my ankle today, i can always come to Zisteau's channel to cheer me up :) keep up the amazing work!
